Our extended family of 8 were in town for a family reunion and rented the entire house.  We all had our own rooms, bathrooms and plenty of space to spread out.  No cooking other than a microwave/toaster is allowed, but breakfast vouchers from the Rock Run Inn are provided.  We were always on the go, so often we used them for takeout to eat at the house.  The restaurant was great and very accomodating to us.  The back deck was nice to sit and watch fireflies and deer in the evening and sip coffee in the morning.  Great front porch too.

Because there's no person on site at all times to manage as a typical B&B, I don't know if I'd rent a single room here, but it's the perfect spot for families and groups in the area for reunions, etc.. 

I stayed here 20 yrs ago and it's been updated with wall to wall carpet, etc. and is very clean and comfortable.  Side note.  If you rent the entire house, you get a 5th room with a queen bed and you share a hall bathroom.

Great whole house rental for a large group

The house is a historic treasure from a by-gone era but, was fun to stay at. It has 4 bedrooms with both private and shared bathrooms, and a full kitchen and refrigerator available for use. Except for the modern kitchen and baths we felt like we were stepping back 100+ years in time. It was clean and comfortable, TV was in the living room and a game room was available with board games and cards at the ready.

This refurbished old house sits on a golf course built in the “flapper” era of the 1920’s and we got that feeling when we stayed there. Breakfast was in the golf clubhouse a short walk out the back door and was open menu made to order and more than enough for big appetites.

However, do not come here expecting a 4 or 5 star resort; you can find all of them you want in Pittsburgh. You should expect and receive a clean and comfortable historic house from more than 100 years ago with furniture to match. On the wall in our bedroom was the framed marriage certificate of the Butlers dated 1883. Fun.

We will stay there on our next trip to this part of PA.


This was like getting a room in your brother-in-law’s house; you leave them alone they will leave you alone.

This is an older farm house which is still furnished in the original style....rugs and all!
There are two bedrooms downstairs with bathrooms and upstairs are another three rooms...with shared bath. 
There is a large shared kitchen and another seating area to relax in.
At first glance it is stark. 
Outside is a lovely deck overlooking the 18th green and the 10th tee. It was quiet for us and the crickets and night bugs were the entertainment. 
We both commented on the ease it provided to golfers and that is perhaps the caveat with this property. 
If you want a romantic get away this is not for you!
But we had a clean, quiet journey back in time!
Breakfast was in the club house....great service!

Nothing fancy, but......

This a four-bedroom house. Reminds me of Grandma's place. The beds in each room are small.  Our bed was a double. There was room for a Queen. That would be a nice upgrade. There is no employee on site and no one answered the phone numbers that they gave us so it would be difficult to solve an immediate problem. The keys were old-style metal keys that could be copied, making security a potential issue, especially if local 911 could not pick up your location.  Breakfast was at the restaurant down the road-- with good-sized portions.  The TV was a 36-inch console (just like the one that grandma bought in the 60's.) Each bedroom has a private bath but you will share the kitchen, dining room and living room with other guests.  Overall, it was very clean at a better price point than a typical hotel.

Like staying at Grandma's House

The best adjective that I can think of to describe John Butler House B&B is "adequate."  There were both pros and cons. First of all, the good news. Overall, it was clean. Our room was clean and the bathroom was quite spacious. There were spare pillows, which are a must for us and we didn't have to ask for them. Check in and out was a breeze. Helen and her staff were wonderful when we encountered them in the restaurant. We had a full sized refrigerator/freezer to use as well as full kitchen. It was not unlike staying at someone's home, especially since there were other guests using the facilities as well. Breakfast was good with quite sizable portions.  Now for the not so good news. It was November. It was cold in our room.We wound up having to sleep in sweats to keep warm.  There is one thermostat to control the entire house, so one party could be freezing and the other roasting. I got up early to run the shower on hot just so I wouldn't freeze getting a shower in the morning. Towels. Very small, thin towels and only one per person. I was hoping that someone would come in to empty garbage and replace towels as has been our experience in other B&B's, but that did not happen. On the other hand, there was an ample supply of tissues and toilet paper, so at least the essentials were covered during our stay. The bed was a full size, so for a couple who is accustomed to a queen, it was small and my husband's back didn't like it very much at all. Finally, we are early risers and like to get an early start because we had much to do. We were dismayed to find out that the earliest that we could eat was 9 am. So, by the time we got to the restaurant, placed our order, were served and then ate, it was 10:00. At the previous B&B where we had stayed the night before in another state,  we were on the road by 7:30. 
 Depending upon your needs and expectations, it might be just the place for you. The price was reasonable and the location was ideal for where we wanted to be. It's nothing fancy, but it is a place to rest for the night. 

A Place To Hang Your Hat

This quaint B &B is a walk back in time. It's comfortable, picturesque and sleeps well. The restaurant, the John Butler Inn, serves delicious meals and the staff is friendly and accommodating. The golf course is really top rate. It's hard to think of one that is more beautiful with its high views of the countryside especially in the fall. My husband really enjoyed playing the course and I got some amazing photography! We highly recommend this sweet spot.
