Checked in for two nights at $173/night.  Room was very basic and we immediately saw a cockroach scurrying around.  Tried to wash my hands and the sink wouldn't drain.  They called a plumber who first came in, unmasked, and tried to undo the clog at the ptrap.  Then he went outside the unit and found that tree roots were in the pipes and said this has been an ongoing problem.  The plumber and maintenance person said they shouldn't have rented the unit as the manager knows the sink won't drain .  This also shows how well they clean the unit if they don't even run the water.   

The next day the sink was fully backed up again and they called the plumber while we were out.  He said it was fixed but, that evening, the shower clogged up and then the toilet overflowed all over the bathroom floor.  When reported to the manager, her response was what do you want me to do, just throw your towels around the toilet.  She refused to find a new room and eventually said if we wanted a refund for one night, we would have to leave.  Everywhere was fully booked so we ended up driving at 1:00 am to Markleeville, nearly an hour away on a dark winding road.  Just think of what kind of proprietor would ask us to leave when she is wholly at fault and greedily and knowingly booked an uninhabitable room?

BTW, no refund as of yet.

So please keep in mind that if you book at the Sierra Retreat, the room hasn’t been cleaned.  And there’s a good chance that your towels have been soaked in raw sewage or used to clean up cockroaches.

Cockroaches and Sewage Combined with a Miserable Hostess

This was an overnight stay. The cabin had plenty of stocked amenities for a long time stay with a fully equipped kitchen. 
I would have given it 5 stars if it had a few more things. One being more outlets. I had to get on my hands and knees to look under the bedside table to find one to plug in my CPAP machine. You could unplug the clock radio or lamps.
 And you couldn't leave the ceiling fan run at night. It was wired to a separate light in the ceiling that couldn't be turned off.
It was quiet, somewhat comfortable. The room had two queen beds, a sofa, a 19" CRTV with Direct TV. You get a heater and a swamp cooler. The lines are nice. 
We enjoyed sitting in the chairs on the porch and watching cars pass by.
This location is at the south end of town. There is a café in front with limited hours and a store next door. Everything else is across the highway and up the road a quarter mile.

Nice cabin

These cabins have a furnished kitchen but only 2 available outlets so you have to take turns with appliances. The fridg is average size on It's own outlet.  Our bed squeaked when we rolled over.  The A.C. is old and noisy so we turned it off at night and opened Windows. The bathroom is adequate with a small shower. The owner was very friendly. There's a coffee shop next door for breakfast.

An o.k. place to stay

This place would be great if they would do a better job cleaning and some General up keep like better bedding new carpet. I think they have just not done some up keep for Several years I love how the cabins are stand alone for better privacy. Very cute Kitchens with almost everything you need. I know it's hard to put money into them with a short season but take note to the Anduress motel down the street. This place could be better then any motel from Mammoth to Topaz as a old classic motor lodge do to the lay out Wanted to give it a 4 star but just needs a few upgrades and better house keeping.

There are not many places to stay in Walker, but I am glad we chose this one.  It is the only one with actual little cabins.  Fully contained.  Full kitchen with fridge, microwave, coffee pot etc., and utensils and table setting.  Very pleasant stay.  If I am ever that way again, will definitely stay there!

Where is Walkera/

Location is important, so this is a very good place to stay. If you are on a budget, this allows you to refuel and seek food supplies in Gardenerville,NV about 30 minutes north toward Reno. The gas is .40 less today and that adds up if you have a large tank, otherwise continue on to Lee Vining south on 395. There is a full kitchenette with stovetop, microwave, and a small refrigerator if you don't mind cooking and saving a lot. We were in room #3 and there were no complaints from our point of view in terms of noise, space, parking, but if you didn't pack well there is only one place to eat Walker Berger which received very good reviews, though we did not eat there it did look inviting and the smells were good too. Walker General Store is at the end of the driveway and has a decent variety of necessities, but you pay for convenience. The room is adequate with a Queen bed, wicker furniture, 19" tube TV, shower, air conditioning in the window space, and fully contained kitchenette (silverware, plates, cups, etc.). Be prepared to clean up after yourselves or pay a $50 fee for their cleaning service. Water from the tap is potable, it made good coffee in the 4 cup Mr Coffee maker which was a real plus for us. Dish TV is limited as you would expect and WiFi costs $5 more. There is a very good fishing stream, West Walker River which boasts of great trout and access within walking distance. The staff is laid back and we only interacted once, but felt that they were willing to give good solid advice if you needed it. I would stay again, though I think WiFi should be provided and better detail cleaning would prompt me to add a star to this review.
