It's a very nice B&B. The room was very clean and comfortable, the food was excellent, and the location was good. What is unusual and the highlight for us was the community breakfast. Everyone eats breakfast at the same time (although we were the only guests that day). Hearing the history of the B&B and the personal history of the owner, Arlene, was the best part of the stay.

I cannot understand how this place has so many positive reviews. I think Jessica B got it right. 

I booked it because it seemed quaint and charming but it was tired, shabby and grubby. We stayed in the Sunflower room which admittedly was well themed to sunflowers but it was fairly cramped and the shower room was tiny. The old fashioned radiator fittings were covered with dust, the windows were difficult to open and the door was tricky to open and close. The bed was extremely uncomfortable and I got really bad backache. There was a mat on the floor of the bathroom which seemed to be instead of a proper bath mat, it was shaped like sunflowers, but was actually just a bit of old carpet, which was filthy round the edges. We had to put a hand towel on top of it for our clean feet when we got out of the shower.  

We did not enjoy the breakfast experience for a start. It was rigidly at 8 o’clock in the morning and this was not flexible at all. Some days we did not need to get up this early but we had no choice. We had to all sit around one big table and we were told exactly where we had to sit. Arlene, the host had a piece of paper on her plate saying that that was where she was to sit. The three courses were delivered quite slowly, and were definitely not to our taste. The first course was okay which was fresh fruit and yoghurt but at no point where we ever offered any bread or toast. The second course was a savoury dish in a ramekin, which was very small and very solid a and dry and not at all tasty. The third course was also in a ramekin dish and was a very solid dry cake type thing. Most people sitting round the table left most of their food. This was not picked up by Arlene and we were offered no alternatives. At the end of breakfast,  Arlene wanted to play some records on her gramophone, but fortunately we had things to do so we escaped. The whole experience for these three miserable courses took an hour. We were offered tea and coffee, but no juice. Quite a lot of the silverware was extremely grubby as well with encrusted food on it. Conversations at breakfast, usually revolved about round, Arlene telling her stories and new age theories. Even when other people started talking to each other, it always went back to her.

On a positive note, the location was excellent and you could walk into town for the evening to get a meal plus parking was free at the accommodation.

Appalling experience

This a quaint little B&B with a delightful breakfast experience with the owner.  We learned a lot of history and was walking distance to the old part of Colorado city. This is a must stay if you are in the area! 

A Trip Back In Time

Shabby and uncomfortable, not charming. Poor value for money. Everything about the place looks tired, worn, depressing. The 3-course breakfast was awful — one course worse than the next — and host seems to demand that every guest show up to table on her schedule and listen to her stories. Privacy (both inside the building and onto the street) is nonexistent thanks to zero soundproofing and rooms smack up against the sidewalk at ground level. Thank goodness it was a 1-night booking. 

Shabby, not charming — stay away

Stayed here for a hiking getaway - very quaint and cozy - host was great - accommodations were very spacious and clean in the Mountainview room.
Old Colorado City is a hidden gem in the Pikes Peak area!

Cozy place!

We enjoyed our stay at Spurs and Lace. Our hostess (Arlene) greeted us and made us feel very welcome. The B and B is a period home, and it was interesting to hear Arlene tell us about how it was moved several blocks to it's present location. It is only a block from the historic district. Lots of fine places to eat, as well as many shops. Breakfast in the morning was very good, and we enjoyed Arlene's "story time". We also enjoyed listening to music on Arlene's 1016 Victrola.

Arlene is an excellent host. She makes sure you're very comfortable, up to date with the area and all food allergies are addressed. The house in very comfortable and cozy. An overall amazing time in Manitou Springs/Old Colorado City!

Amazing get away!

Had a really wonderful stay at the Spur & Lace, a period house with great history and a delightful host, Arlene. A really friendly lady, Arlene has a wealth of knowledge of the history of the house and also the surrounding area and it’s certainly worth lending an ear to hear what she has to say. 
Our room was roomy and comfy, if I was asked I would direct any and all to stay with Arlene. Should you visit you will also discover that you are central to many of the historical sites and attractions that Colorado Springs has to offer, we would go back in a second if the opportunity arose.

Great Place to Stay

No problem finding the house, we stayed in the Mountain Room.  Very comfortable chairs and good reception on the WIFI.  No TV in the room, but if you bring your PC and can get access to Youtube, you can still get all the news, music, and movies that are probably better than you would get on TV.   Every thing went fine until I unpacked and found that I had packed an empty pill box.  I need to take my heart medication morning and night.   Arlene's understanding greatly relieved my anxiety.  I did have to cut my trip short and drive back to Broomfield late at night on rainy roads.  Got home safely.  Hope to stay there again when I have an opportunity.  Good location, not far from Old Colorado City,  Garden of the Gods, etc.  Thanks again Arlene
