OK...so the fifth star is for value-received-compared-to-cost, and not for resort-like characteristics.  But the Selkirk Motel does _so much_ exactly right.  It's an older facility, as you can tell by the retro single-level-units-wrapped-around-a-courtyard-that-serves-as-parking-lot architecture.  But it's been renovated both exterior and interior.  My room was super clean.  My bathroom had new fixtures, and new floor-wall-ceiling tile.  The room was smaller than some, but quite adequate space-wise, and super-clean. And the mattress was comfortable and delightful to sleep on, which is, after all, the main reason one is at a motel.   Bonus 1:  I don't think that they advertised an included breakfast, but I'm staying in so many places during this trip that I couldn't remember.  When I asked, I was given Hot Pockets.  Not the _variety_ of choices one often gets, but this offering could be eaten hot, unlike the cereal-and-donut choices so prevalent nowadays in those motels that bother to provide breakfast at all.  Bonus 2:  The fridge not only had a freezer, unusual in itself now, but it was a separate freezer compartment that could actually freeze things! I don't think I've ever stayed at a budget motel that did such a first-rate job of meeting my needs.

My daughter and I stayed here for a week, they say don't judge a book by its cover. This is definitely the case here. The building might be rough on the edges, however the rooms themselves are clean and reasonably priced. I've stayed at a lot of these type of older motels and was expecting that old funky smell that usually comes with the room. However I was pleasantly surprised that the room smelled fresh and clean.  The husband and wife team that manage this little mom and pop motel were very attentive and respectful to of us. I would recommend this place to anyone travelling thru the Colville area whether it's just 1 night or many.

My name is Josh Crill. The managers at Selkirk helped  me with my police situation. I came back at 10:15 at night and Nick gave me all of my belongings even though I woke him up. The experience was great overall and I appreciated his help!

Great employees and service!

Stayed at the selkirk Oct 1st and was pleasantly surprised, the rooms were very modern and some of the cleanest rooms I have seen from any Motel. We arrived at almost 1 a.m, we had no reservations and the office was closed but the sign on door gave us an after hours number, the gentleman who answered was extremely nice even after being woken up,We told him we needed a room, he was more than accommodating opening the office up and having us checked in and in our room in less than 10 minutes from call to key.
Room was much more than we expected, it had new tile bathroom, wood floors and a comfortable bed and was very clean. Could have used darker curtains but overall it was a great room at a great price with great service,we will be back.

Don't judge a book by its cover

the motel is an older building. I was skeptical about the look alone. but boy was I surprised at how nice the rooms were. the one I was in had a table, microwave, fridge, and a flat screen tv.  the bed was comfortable. home like feel to the rooms which are different from other motels I've stayed at. The bedding was clean, no holes or stains. the bathroom was clean. it was a nice stay overall.

the motel is clean, quiet, safe, and all standards were met. Older motel, built in the 50's ish. The rooms are cute and sported a fridge, microwave, and tv. Nice new beds and pillows. I really liked the fact its located right at the edge of the downtown area. Many restaurant choices and places to grab a drink. All in all a Great Little Gem.

Nothing fancy. Great motorcycle motel. Cute rooms, great air conditioning after a hot motorcycle ride.  Television cut in and out and the room has a toilet that wasn’t flushed. Overall staff was friendly, gave good recommendations to dinner, would stay again.

We stayed in room 17, second closest to the main road.  Check in was easy even on the Christmas holiday.   You can tell they have done some basic updates, but they did not replace the old nasty padded headboard that reeked like stale smoke. I specifically requested a non-Smoking room.   I had to sleep backwards in the bed to try and get away from the smell.  The bedding was clean and comfortable.  I was told the smaller bed was not very comfortable and its close to the window wall so you could hear people walking down the sidewalk thru the AC that was covered over.  The floors are tile they look clean but VERY cold in the winter.  The bathroom does not have a heater, so it also gets VERY cold.  The TV does not have a pivoting arm so the second bed cannot see the TV.  The bathroom sink drained slow and the outlet was broken.

Room smells like stale smoke.

Managers not very friendly, even on the phone booking the room the person wasn't friendly, i wrote it off that they were having a bad day and booked the room. It didn't get better when we arrived.

I generally look for the smaller hotels as I find the people there are usually very friendly, this was not the case this time.

There was 5 old coffee bags left in the coffee maker and there was no tea spoon for making instant coffee and tea, wasn't game to use the coffee maker.

I see many people have had a good experience here but we didn't, maybe just bad luck for us this time.

Not the best experience

The property is run by a couple who are very friendly and helpful with suggestions for place to eat/shop. Motel is right on main street and an easy walk to restaurants, bars and grocery stores. It is clean and offers parking right outside your door. Small kitchenette in my room which was not required but I think in all the rooms.
