I cannot say enough about this wonderful inn and it's staff. The breakfast was absolutely delightful everyday and I originally planned to stay two nights but booked a third because it was so restful. The countryside is lovely with lots of hiking around, and the buildings themselves feel beautiful and historic. The staff is attentive and helpful and knowledgeable about the area. I can't quite put into words what is so special about this place but it is special.

Charming Inn with warm staff and wonderful breakfast

In the late 1980s, while driving back home from college with my girlfriend, we broke down in the middle of the night - in winter - not far from this inn. This predated cellphones so my girlfriend and I walked back down the road to this place; there being really nothing else around. After a while of knocking, this lady came to the door and we explained our predicament. She said we could call our parents, but that it made the most sense to just stay the night and she'd help us get gasoline in the morning. She set us up with a very nice room with a working fireplace. In the morning, she made us a great breakfast and took us into town to grab gas. Never charged us a penny nor accepted any offering.

Ever since then, I've wanted to come back here and stay as a paying customer - just a way to thank the owners. Unfortunately, those owners sold and there are new owners. However, I'm quite convinced were the scene to play out today, it would go much the same. We had a lovely stay.

Even though we only live about a half hour away, I decided to take my wife (not the same girl from college) for a quick getaway - AND to check off this bucket list item. We booked a single overnight in the cottage. The inn was proactive about making sure they knew when we'd be arriving to make sure everything was set. 

The fireplace is wonderful. There's plenty of room to cozy up to it with both chairs and throw pillows. There's a whirlpool tub that we did not make use of (this time). We have it on good authority that it takes a long time to fill so plan accordingly. (There's a great little guest book in the room with this tidbit). The king-size bed was very comfortable. There's a mini-fridge in there, basic cable TV, and WiFi. Convenient, but go to this inn to UNplug.

We did have a problem with the heat in the cottage but Lucas was extremely attentive and corrected the issue immediately. The next day, he was also our breakfast chef who's as handy with kitchen appliances as he is with furnaces. The breakfast was very good.

Friends of ours go away fairly regularly but they don't necessarily travel far; they just do little escapes like this. They've inspired us. We think it's a good idea - it's nice to just get away for a day or two even if it's just around the corner. 

We will return here to try some of the other rooms and certainly to take advantage of the pool in the summer. 

If you're looking to meander and spend some quiet time with your spouse, the NW corner of the state is great and you cannot go wrong hanging your hat at the Blackberry River Inn for a few nights.

Come to Norfolk - even if only to stay in this little gem of an inn

Great breakfast service, as noted - by very polite staff.  Beautiful spaces, with books/games and no public TVs.  There was just confusion with room assignment - we booked a specific room based on desire for a jetted tub and a loveseat/couch.  At check-in were told that building is not heated and were "upgraded" to a room in same building without tub/jets/loveseat - not ideal in our case.

Beautiful, quintessential New England B&B experience

Wonderfully quaint, quiet and comfortable. My husband and stayed in the cottage. Very private. The fireplace was preped and ready to be lit. Extra firewood was readily provided by our host Lucas.

Breakfast was bountiful and extremely fresh, accompanied by pleasant banter from our host. 

Plan to return in the summer to use the outdoor pool.

Delightful

Lovely historical Inn - in a great town.  We stayed there while attending an event at the Infinity Theater in Norfolk.  Highly recommend both.  Lucas, the proprietor, was very helpful and kind.  It was one of the best breakfasts I ever had at a B&B - and served in a lovely dining room!  Thank you.   SUE B

Loved It!

This is a very large, old style property, decorated in an almost Victorian style.  The Inn is very charming, but much of the rest of the property is in need of some renovation.  It is located on a busy road.  We found the bed to be very hard and the pillows almost like rocks.  In room #3, some of the faucets were installed backwards, which made it difficult to figure out how to get hot water in the shower. (Turn it close to off, rather than all the way on.)

What almost made up for all of the deficits was our host Lucas.  He prepared a wonderful breakfast and was extremely pleasand and helpful.

Right on the road

We love it here.  They can’t do enough for you. It’s consistently clean , friendly, and homey.  We went swimming in the pool and Lucas brought us watermelon tea!  It was a nice surprise and a wonderful treat . The breakfasts are delicious and the coffee is the best! Afternoon tea and cookies is pretty special too.  We’ve been coming for 4 years and we have never been disappointed.  

The Blackberry River Inn

Most of the inns in the area required a 2 night stay, but this one did not.  We stayed in the Carriage house because no dogs in the main house, even though she is a service dog. The room was a bit faded, but typical of an historic property.  The main house was even more charming.  The breakfast was outstanding.  The property and views were also very nice.  Be aware that there is a farm very nearby, and driving past, the farm aroma could be noticeable.  It did not affect our stay.  Good value.  

Enjoyable stopover.

We spent 5 days at the Blackberry River and it was great.  Our room was spacious and reflected the character of the property.  There was ample room for us to relax, it was clean and the daily makeup service ensured we has new towels and other essentials.

The best part of the stay was breakfast each morning. The food was fresh, well prepared and plentiful.  Their signature waffle was amazing.

Finally, a big shout out to Lukas, the innkeeper during our stay,  He was extremely accommodating throughout our stay and quick to address any requests.  He made our stay even that more special.

If you are looking for a few quiet days in Norfolk you can's go wrong with a stay at the Blackberry River inn.

Wonderful Property

Went to Norfolk to see a show  @ The Infinity Music Hall. Started to look for  a place to stay  & not  a long drive home@ 11pm. My wife found the Blackberry River Inn on the Google search & what a Gem. We were Greeted by Joe as we walked thru the door.
Although we had a reservation in  the Carriage House; Joe  suggested we stay in the Main House. As it was a very cold evening; we opted for the Main House. It was like stepping back into a time that is sorely missed. Quiet & Stately; Piano music softly playing in the background. The room was clean, quiet & comfortable. A full Breakfast comes with a stay here. & quite delicious it was !  We plan on returning when the Snow flies for our Anniversary. We spoke with Lucas & Joe during our stay & felt most welcome.
