This was our first time staying at a bed and breakfast because most  do not allow dogs.

Close to the town, Friday Harbor if you want shopping, lunch, dinner, ice cream etc. 
Amazing breakfast on the deck every morning. We loved the heating pads on the chairs! 
Hot tub on your personal deck. 
Great views of the forest and water.
Nice jacuzzi tub in the bathroom. 
Good shower and the fan worked really well. 
You can open your room windows and allow cool air in at night! 
Very friendly, helpful staff. 
Coffee in your room. 
Let them know if you are celebrating anything. The brownies and sparkling cider were really good. 
King size bed with soft, comfortable sheets!

Suggestions:
-One of the bathroom windows in our room needed a shade, blinds or curtains. The only thing covering the window was a white doily crochet thing and some kind of stickers on the window. I ended up using some extra towels to provide us some privacy. We could see our neighbors and their hot tub above our room. 
-There is A LOT of extra stuff (nicknacks everywhere, 12+ pillows on the bed, art work on the walls, large extra furniture etc.). In order to fit our stuff (suitcases, dog stuff, our toiletries etc.) we put a lot of stuff in the closet and below the sinks in the bathroom. We were really overwhelmed with seeing that much extra stuff in our room. It made the room feel smaller.

Dog friendly, amazing breakfast, great views and very quiet.

This place was an absolute dream, and I'm so lucky we found it. I wouldn't stay anywhere else on Friday Harbor. Nancy and her team were so accommodating from start to finish: lovely little welcome packets and beautiful breakfasts on a patio overlooking the lake and surrounded by trees. We went in March, and it was beautiful. I can't imagine what it will be like in the summer or fall. The room was so cozy, and the hot tub was a very exciting extra! The place itself was so clean and decorated to a tee. The location was great - we wanted to stay outside the town center. It had parking for our car, which was very nice. Plus, they're animal friendly. As dog lovers, we were so happy to meet their pups and other guests' dogs. They also have a very friendly cat who visited with us outside. 

Overall, 20/10. I'd recommend Inn to the Woods to anyone! The perfect spot for a getaway.

A perfect getaway spot, 20/10!

We spent three nights in the Arbor room, celebrating our 10th anniversary with a first trip ever to the San Juan Islands. We can't say enough about how perfect everything was! We rented a small car in Friday Harbor and ventured out from the inn every day after a sumptuous breakfast. The hosts were attentive and welcoming, but also left us to ourselves to just enjoy things. We loved the ambience, the dogs, the hot tub, and the views. Loved everything and can't recommend this inn enough!

Charming, cozy, exceptional!

Our stay could not have been more perfect.  Our reservation was a holdover from pre-covid days, and the owners were most accommodating in rescheduling our trip - and we were so grateful that they did so.  Everything about this inn was first-class: the hot tub off of our room, the air purifier in our room, the outstanding breakfasts, the treats in the living room, the four-poster bed, the bottle of wine to celebrate our anniversary, the  wood fireplace, the walking trail of the property. 

In other words, this is a top-notch resort and a must-stay place on San Juan Island.  Nancy, Patrick and Jamie were outstanding hosts.  We will return.

A Delight - Totally Recommend

We just got back from a weekend getaway - and wow - what a find! This was a surprise, planned by my darling husband, and I couldn’t have planned it better myself. The hosts were so welcoming and just made everything special. All details thought of, down to a small musical wooden figurine that played “happy birthday” placed at our breakfast table, as they knew we were celebrating. The location is very close to town, but then again, nothing is very far on the island. We enjoyed the hot tub nightly and the breakfasts were amazing - especially the French toast. Will definitely be going back! Thank you for everything!

A gem in the woods!

Patrick &Nancy, their pets, their hospitality 100% perfect!  Warm, welcoming- truly feels like home. Covid conscious very clean, 2 amazing owners! Food is amazing , made Keto for us no problem. A perfect getaway!!

Amazing!!! Absolutely recommend staying there!!!

We looked for last minute lodging on the island (everthing was booked!) and found the "Sparrow" campsite offering a tent, 2 cots, picnic table & fire ring on the property of Inn to the Woods. As we were biking for this trip, we were happy not to have to haul any extra gear & really appreciated what was provided. We found check in easy & the gentleman who showed us to the site was helpful. 
PRO'S: The site & gear were clean & in good condition. Privacy from other sites was nice & it is a relaxing setting in the woods. Neat idea.
CON'S: The road noise / dogs were louder than anticipated at night. No running water or amenities provided, other than a clean porta-potty. We really could've used a shower so the water situation was a bit of a bummer that made meal prep more challenging than it was worth (we just biked into town for breakfast the next day). 
Long story short, we'd probably stay again but come better prepared for rustic camping as we weren't sure if the common room areas & breakfast would be shared with those camping until we arrived. Turns out they are totally separate. I'd emailed my inquiries & received no response prior to our arrival.

Camped @ the "Sparrow"

My daughter and I loved our accommodations at the Inn! It’s beautifully nestled among gorgeous trees over looking Sportsman lake and convenient to both Friday and Roche Harbors. Patrick was so accommodating and the Inn was decorated with gorgeous finds from their own travels. They have placed art, botanicals and whimsy in every direction and have truly thought of every detail a traveler might need. Highly recommend Inn to the woods to any San Juan traveler!

Mother daughter get away.

First and foremost, I want to say that Patrick(owner) was lovely and allowed a late check-out that worked well for us. We booked the room with the private jacuzzi and it was very clean and we enjoyed it tremendously. However, we do have some additional feedback that guests may want to know. First, they have dogs and if you are a dog lover that is great. The first morning one of the dogs, however, had a barking marathon for almost an hour which impacted our ability to sleep in late. Also, the dogs are very friendly and like to run up to you and interact, so I would just caution anyone who is fearful of dogs(as some of my friends are) to be aware that this is a dog friendly establishment. Secondly, the breakfasts were delicious but not "hearty"...we are used to B&B's that provide larger portions, so if you like a big breakfast then you may leave the table a little hungry. Also, this establishment is not in walking distance from Friday Harbor or any restaurants so I would have appreciated some fruit or snacks left out like other B&B's have always had. I feel that is an amenity that is needed since access to food requires driving to get it. It is also important to understand the layout at this B&B, as all of the bedrooms are right next to each other and the common area is right there as well. We visited when we were the only people there, but we felt that if the establishment were full there could be a noise issue and quite a bit of "togetherness" with the way the space is designed. Also, if the weather would not permit patio dining, you will be eating breakfast at big tables with other people, unless you would eat in your room. So be aware of the layout and how it will fit your personality. 

Could Use A Few More Amenities 

From the TripAdvisor reviews,I expected an interesting gemutlich place and was not disappointed.  My wife expected a shabby rather uncomfortable room--all the moreso after she saw it in person; yet, she was totally delighted with our 3 night stay, and kept saying how she missed it when we moved over to Orcas Island (Rosario Resort).  I found the Selall Room delightful with all the many boyhood-style knick-knacks that provoked flights of fantasy.  The whole house is decorated with all sorts of funny little visually stimulating finds; my wife dismissed them as tchotchkes. Her favorite part was the private hot tub for our room only, out and up some steps from the room into the forest .

A warning for the future...perhaps.  Patrick is planning to put some tented campsites out in the area that would look into the Sellal hottub, where we had floated clothes-lessly.  Perhaps he'll make the low fence higher.

Patrick set out a fine, well-balanced breakfast at 9 am daily.  Organic fresh fruit included.  Patrick's wife was rarely spotted, in our three days; apparently they have an arrangement where he performs Innkeeper duties, while she pursues her own interests.  Well, it works well at this point, I think it's 11 years into the Inn project!

During breakfast, Patrick stays nearby unobtrusivley, usually reading in the common room just out of the kitchen, while the guests schmooze together.  He's responsive to an invitation to a sit-down question period...during which time he gave excellent advise on what to see on San Juan Island. 

One more strange thing.  At this point, I don't know what our room rate is.  I made the reservation by phone and Patrick set back an email confirming our stay by none of the usual rules of cancellation nor room rate.  A kind of handshake deal...
