We visited South Dakota for the first time last week. We chose the Mountain View Lodge because of its proximity to Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse Memorial. We arrived late, after the office was closed but the owners left the door of our room unlocked and the lights on. We were thrilled with how lovely the room was. It was small but super clean and comfortable. We loved the rustic decor. We were in awe when we woke up to the glorious view!  Most mornings there was coffee and donuts available. We will definitely be back!  

We loved the Mountain View! 

Room was ok. Office wasn't open when it was supposed to be. Wasn't coffee and donuts in the morning as advertised in the guide in the room. Outside of the peak season so I guess taking our money was an inconvenience. Checkout time apparently was 10:30. 11 is pretty standard for the industry so that's what we were shooting for. At 10:37 a man knocked on the door and was rude to my wife and told her we needed to be out ASAP and we were late. She said we would be out in ten minutes and he said he that wasn't fast enough. He must have had better things to do with his Saturday than do his job. This poor customer service and lack of hospitality is inexcusable. I realize it's not your peak season but if my business is an inconvenience then don't bother staying open. I'll be sure to spread the word to stay literally anywhere else.

Mountain View Lodge is a gem in the Black Hills.  Owners Cary and Melissa have created a home away from home  for their guests.   The attention to details inside the rooms was a pleasant surprise.  Bed and linens were high quality and comfortable.  Loved the plush grey towels, opposed to the traditional white.   There is a beautiful patio area off the upstairs patio with gas grills, pizza oven and tables.   Was a great area to have a meal or just a cocktail after a long day.   We highly recommend staying here in the Hill City area.   The only minor drawback to keep in mind are the stairs and rooms and bathrooms are on the small side.   I did not feel this warranted a negative review as other features override this issue.  Just keep this in mind if you need space.

Great Hotel, Great Location

Adorable, clean updated rooms with a very cozy feel. The bedding was super comfortable and nice soft sheets! The owners were very friendly with complimentary welcome drinks upon arrival and donuts/coffee available in the morning. Great location for a nearby wedding venue and easy, quick drive to other local tourist locations. If we’re in the area again, we will be back!

Absolutely loved staying at this place.  The location is great and the room worked great for our family.  The staff/owners were amazing and very friendly.  They always made sure we were having a good time and asked if we needed anything every time we saw them.    I would definitely recommend staying here on your next trip to the Black Hills!

Great location/friendly staff

The owners, Cary and Melissa, went out of their way for us while we stayed at the Mountainview Lodge and Cabins.  We stayed in individual rooms; they are lovely and very, very clean!  There were four of us traveling and we stayed in two separate rooms.  We all said how comfortable the beds were and how quiet it was at night. The continental breakfast has a wide variety of items to make everyone in your group happy. Each room has its own set of chairs and a table on the deck, additionally there is a larger part of the deck that has a fire table, grills, a pizza oven and big tables with shade. This was a wonderful place to meet in the morning and have breakfast (we saw others using the grills at night for dinner). The owners were very attentive to every guest while we were there, ensuring that we all were happy. They are beautiful people inside and out!  We will absolutely be staying here again in the future. (Cary, Joe wants to remind you to "Not talk to strangers"! See you again soon.)

Great hosts who were very attentive to guests and a pleasure to work with. Great location for attractions we wanted to visit. Very spacious room and amenities. They had everything you would need to have an enjoyable experience! Grocery shopping nearby, and options for meals available as well within easy driving distance.

The Mountain View Family Cabin was hands down the best cabin for our family.  You deserve all the recognition for going above and beyond to make your cabins perfect for families. Our kids are 5 and 8 years old and this cabin fit the four of us. We loved your location, the pool, and the ability to make memories as a family without feeling like we were on top of the next cabin.  The well equipped cabin was a relief in packing. We will definitely stay here again and highly recommend your lodge and cabins to anyone traveling your way!

First family vacation

This is the perfect place to stay in the Black Hills! First, and most importantly, it’s extremely clean and comfortable. The rooms and entire lodge are spotless. The beds are so comfortable. The bathroom and kitchenette is very well stocked. You will not feel the need to wipe everything down when you arrive! 
Second, and just as important is the owners. They clearly work very hard to make sure their guests need everything they need. You’ll see their friendly faces each day working hard around the lodge and cabins. When we originally booked our stay, it was under different ownership. There was miscommunication in the booking. They had us down for 2 people but we were traveling with our family of 5. All of the rollaway beds were in use, so the owners promptly went out to purchase a brand new air mattress for our son to sleep on. Now that’s service!! 
Last, it’s location. The lodge and cabins are about 10 minutes away from Hill City. Mt. Rushmore was about 20 minutes. 
We just left and already miss it. Book your stay here, you won’t regret it!

Perfect place to stay in the Black Hills!

Normally when I walk into a hotel room I feel a need to wipe everything down. But, this place was spotless. The owners were very nice and welcoming. The location was ideal if you are wanting to be centrally located for your Black Hills vacation too. I would definitely recommend this place.
