I organize a drive for old sports cars every year and this year, we stayed in Dinuba for 2 nights. We found the El Monte to be generally pleasant, Mike Patel, the owner was gracious. He's been working to renovate rooms and they are nice, although the design choices were perhaps, odd. The biggest problem we had was the fact that only 5 of the 20 rooms were non-smoking. One of our people had specified a non-smoking rooms and got a smoker. Mike did change his room to a less smelly one, but in this day and age, one would think that more than 25% of a motel's rooms would be non-smoking. Overall though, it was good enough for our rather undemanding group. We like small, odd motels and prefer to patronize family businesses, so this place was a good choice for us. Don't expect the frills of a big corporate place, but to hang your hat for a night, it's just fine.

Dinuba or Bust

Pros:  clean, quiet, good location, nice and helpful owners, hardwood floors instead of carpet, looks newly renovated

Cons:  new renovation appears only 75% completed, bed right next to door (think door almost hits bed when you open it), bed a bit hard though I still slept well, no bedside lamps, main restroom overhead light out, no curtains on completely clear bathroom window across from shower

The owners apparently have a weird remote fixation.  The TV remote was handed to me upon check in.  Now I don’t know what a TV remote is going for on the black market these days but it must be enough that TV remotes must be carefully safeguarded. (laugh) Also, the AC remote was velcroed to the table for some unknown reason.   

There were discolorations on the sheets that looked more like bad washing skills than lack of cleanliness.  To make sure, I smelled the sheets. They smelled like they were fresh from the wash.  

Though there is no tub and only a shower, the shower is almost the size of a tub. I also noticed white residue at the bottom of the shower drain.  However, it looked like left over cleaning product.    

As to the see through bathroom window situation, I went to the office and asked for tacks and a large towel to cover it up.  The owner was very apologetic and immediately got me a dark pillowcase and tacks.  She even offered to personally come to my room (though it was late) to tack it up for me.  I told her no worries and did it myself.

I think if they move the beds away from the door, complete the renovations and get more training for the housekeeper (which I suspect is the owners and not a professional housekeeper) it would be a great little hotel.

It's Getting There

My husband & I stayed here for a night after a late-night drive from Sequoia National Park. Everything is just great! From the rooms to the king sized bed. For the price per night, it's worth every sent. Bear in mind that the rate doesn't include breakfast but I we did not want to spend extra $40 dollars to a brand hotel for donuts and coffee. This motel is very comfy for the price and clean. This place is great for budget minded travelers, and this days who isn't.

Clean and Comfertable

This place is nasty! Do Not come here! Sleep in your car if u have to! Or pitch a tent some where! There is gum stuck to the carpet-it doesn't even look like they know what a vacuum cleaner is..The walls are dirty. One wall looks like it has some blood on it..another area of the wall looks like someone picked a booger and smeared it on the wall. The shower is dirty,it has a build up of soap scum and God knows what eles...The microwave...I stayed far away from it..it looked like some one took a dump and microwaved it on high! It's so fresh that you can see the steam coming of of it! Just Do not check into this dump! Sleep in your car or pitch a tent some where. Also the dead bolt lock on room 11 is broken(this is the room I had) My co-worker who also stayed with me got some kind of rash on her back that wasn't there be4. The heater/cooler is so high up on the wall that I had to stand on a chair to adjust the temperature...not to mention the chair I stood on was filthy...it had stains on it...I probably need to burn my shoes now..who knows what disease it had on it! Just Stay away from this place..it's Nasty!

Motel Hell

Spent a night in this called "motel", should be called Hole-tel, if want fleas, roaches, dirty blankets,beds are probably 50 years old not even hot water, what a lousy place, I have been in bad places but this one is the worse one, I will say do not get near this place. What a nightmare
