We have stayed here twice and this time we were fortunate enough to have a unit overlooking the ocean.  The size of the unit was very spacious, but the quality of the mmaintenance could have been better.  3 of the 6 dining room chairs were wobbly, One dove burner wasn't working, neither bathroom had ventilation, one ceiling light not working. Our unit was clean.

Great location

Housekeeping and maintenance filled requests promptly.  Check in was inconvenient as office is open only from 9 to 5 in winter and we arrived after hours.  Pool locked when office is closed.  Location is great.  Resort and rooms are showing their age.  Wifi was great.

Dated but met our needs

The latest review giving this resort a 5 star is quite questionable.  We stayed at the resort last week and the review is curious that the air conditioner worked and not the heat.  First of all it was cold last week (40-50 degrees), why would you need air conditioning.  Secondly,  the units have heat pumps and typically if heat not working, the system will not work. A owners review should be taken with a lot of credibility.


Questionable Review 

This place is poorly designed and poorly managed. When we arrived, they didn't have our reservation.  It is outdated and needs much maintenance. Dangerous for children. Many staircases in every unit. Pool area looked dirty and dangerous. Tennis court had grass growing in it and gate was broken. Broken porch furniture. Poor internet service.  Gym equipment was out of service. Must pay to use the pool table.

Don't waste your time!

Our vacation was in early December, so we were glad to finds the doors and windows did not let in drafts. Weather fluctuated. The AC worked well, but the furnace needed repair (and it was completely repaired the day we notified the answering service). Access to the beach was easy, about 200 ft away from our unit. Furniture and supplies were good. TV and Wi-Fi worked. NO bugs!!! No sign of bugs!! Staff was very cordial. It made the whole stay quite restful.

Pragmatic evaluation of facility, restful experience

We had a great time at Ocean Pines for the second time.  We ended up in the same unit, with plenty of room for the whole family of adults (3 couples) and our stuff.  Steps from the ocean and near lots of Outer Banks activities.

Good Resort Right on the Beach

List of things that didn’t work, balconies overlooking busy road (why bother), resort amenities all close at 5:30 pm if they worked at all (sauna locked all week). Roaches in unit, spider webs and bird poo all over. More stairs then disclosed. Resort refused move request (and didn’t return calls) despite empty units everywhere. Won’t return. 

Poor repair, cranky staff, disappointing stay

It's not my intention to trash this place with this review.  The property is definitely dated but the area is quiet and you have beach access.  Yes, there are plenty of stairs in the individual units but that wasn't a problem for us.  

What I found disappointing was the lack of effort in maintaining the property.  The balconies were very dirty and one evening I ended up taking the broom out there and spent 10 minutes sweeping and it made the balcony experience so much more pleasant.  It appeared it had been many weeks since someone had bothered to do this.  Also, the game room was not much, but it would have been nice if anything could have worked there.  The video game machine was labeled "out of order".  Another guest put money in the billiard machine and there were no billiard balls in the billiard table at all so he lost his money.  The table tennis net was barely attached.  I was afraid to put money into the soda machine as I ddn't trust it would work.  These types of things require minimal effort to keep up so it was disappointing to see that little care was paid attention to this part of the property.

Disappointed

Ocean Pines is a dated resort, managed by Capital Vacations.  We had a late arrival, received our key and went to the unit.  It had not been made up.  We called the manager, who was upset the cleaning crew did not clean the unit.  She came to the resort and assigned another unit.  She took time out of her personal time to fix the situation.  The beds were great, the unit was clean and everything was in working order.  We were very close to the ocean so could see and hear it when we opened the door to the deck.  There are lots of steps, so be prepared.  I would stay there again.  The manager was great and and helpful with restaurants, etc.  Make sure you see Kitty Hawk and the horses on Corolla beach.  

Quiet Stay

Fair property or good for what you pay. If your picky look elsewhere, otherwise great property. purposeful amenities. Great appliances, Bathtubs need good leaning and caulking refresh, condensation/moisture minor issues, furniture outdoor needs refresh/clean. Minor attention to detail needed, better extermination services but definitely not a problem. One critter you see in a week and 3 dead ones not a problem so they are doing the job they just need to focus on the minor detail areas, ex vents, If they probably place a glue trap inside entrance of vent it would catch the 1 that got away. I would go back. If I had a larger budget I would go elsewhere.
