For our 3-night weekend exploration of Fairbanks and vicinity, June and Ping’s home was conveniently located in a wooded neighborhood off the Steese Hwy just a few miles north of Fairbanks.   Shoes are left at the front door.  A small common area for guests is located near the dining room.  

Our spacious bedroom and en-suite looked out on the backyard.  Guests, staying in the two rooms on the opposite side of our hallway, shared a bathroom on our side of the hall.  Within our large walk-in closet were robes, so I suspect the same courtesy was available to the other guests.  

June served a warm breakfast at 8am.  Alternatively, juice, cereal, and hot beverages were also available in the kitchen for guests needing to slip out of the house sooner.  We were compelled to leave early when departing Fairbanks, yet in anticipation of our departure, June prepared fried egg sandwiches on raisin bread.  Delicious!

Very pleasant

This was our first B&B experience. June made it wonderful. The house is clean and inviting. We enjoyed the other people staying there also. Breakfast was good. June went out of her way to make sure I had food that I could eat with my allergies.

Wonderful experience

We booked 2 nights for the summer back in July.  We found the B & B to be very cozy and quiet.  The only thing that we were disappointed in was that they changed things around between the time we booked and the time we arrived and we were not notified that breakfast would be a different charge.  June and Ping were wonderful hosts and the highlight of the stay was the momma moose and 2 calves that came to the back yard and hung out most of the time we were there.  Momma even laid down in the fish pond to cool off!  The rooms were very clean and comfortable and the common living room area was spacious and cozy.  We will be back in the future.

Quiet Retreat

This property is located few minutes drive from downtown at a residential area which was built in the forest and thus very quiet. The owner June was very helpful and welcoming. The house was clean and breakfast was good.

Great stay in Fairbanks

I had booked the 'Fairbanks Queen' room believing that it would be a spacious room with a living room attached to it and a good amount of privacy. 

However the living room advertised on their site is actually a common area where the other guests can hang out too, to reach the private bathroom you have to walk pass the common laundry area, and the small bedroom is directly opposite from the owner's office. The room only offers the illusion of privacy with the room being downstairs, away from the other guests.

I must add though that the rooms were clean, the owners were nice, and sleeping was not an issue (unless you're a light sleeper and you mind the floorboards creeking above you). 

I would have given this place a higher rating had I not believed the living room to be part of the room, if I had more privacy, and if I had known that the room was in reality only big enough to fit in a Queen sized bed, a desk, and a few chairs. 

What I mean to say is that the Golden Umbrella B&B is a lovely place, just don't set your expectations too high as I did.
