My first time on Fire Island! I had been wanting to go for ages! When I searched for hotels, Clegg's was actually the only one that showed up. It had good reviews so I decided to book it. Very glad I did. Clegg's is perfectly located on Ocean Beach, literally steps away from the ferry. It's also in the heart of all the action and a short walk to the beach. The manager is super friendly and helpful as well!
The rooms were actually nicer than what I had anticipated from the photos and included a very comfortable bed, ample space for suitcases, hangers, toiletries,...and beach chairs/a beach umbrella! What a great touch!
We were in room 3 so we had a bathroom right across from us which was ideal. 
I also really liked the front deck with chairs. 
Overall, we had a great stay at Clegg's and looking forward to our return. Highly recommended!

Perfect location steps away from the ferry!

Amazing service …. Room very clean with beautiful views of the bay ….. bike rentals included with room made for a nice evening stroll …. Excellent customer service and very personable ….. great value for the money ….. newly renovated bathroom …. Smart tv….. beach chairs and umbrella included to make for an efficient stay / beach day …. Highly recommended.

This place would give the Haunted Mansion a run for it's money.  The rat's run away from here to the more upscale sewers of Manhattan.  Photo's are not of this place.  If they put the real photos bums on skidrow wouldn't stay here if they got paid to.  I had to leave after 5 minutes before I puked my lunch but it would've hardly been noticed among the grunge  inches deep everywhere.  For a real good barf look under the toilet seats (or anything for that matter).  A joke and a disgrace to one's senses.  To each his own but you would have to be a masochist to enjoy this dump.

A nightmare.

I brought my daughter and two of her girlfriends for a mini-vacation- all very last minute. Tyler the owner/manager took care of everything- provided the best rooms available, supplied bikes, beach chairs, and umbrellas.  The staff is marvelous, the rooms were pretty and clean. And the location can't be beaten-directly across from the ferry and in the town,  I would say the beach was 900 feet away, We will be back!

Clegg's hotel is a diamond

Terrible furniture, loud even off season, and terrible uncomfortable beds. The bathrooms are communal but clean. The owners are nice but they need to spruce this place up. The location is great. It’s literally five steps from the ferry exit. You can walk to the ocean beach in moments. Fire Island is terrific.

Good location, nice old building, way below average rooms

Let me start by agreeing with most people under these reviews that this hotel is overpriced for what you’re getting. This hotel is not only very old and run down, the filthy carpets, uncomfortable beds, and smell of mold make it the worst hotel I’ve stayed in. But that’s not why I decided to write a review. The unfortunate fact is that I was discriminated against and flat out disrespected by the racist behind the front desk. I understand English very well, but it is not my first language, therefore i have an accent. The clerk was obviously not happy with our being there. We were treated rudely from the start and given a very high price. The clerk not only asked me why I came to the establishment if I “can’t read or speak English” he turned to my friend and in front of me said “she doesn’t understand me, tell her..” To be a racist in 2020 thinking you’re better than somebody because you speak ONE language without an accent while working at a run down hotel is very ironic. not only that, I am still being charged without reason!! Don’t stay here! We stayed 2 nights and paid over $1,000. There are no TVs in the rooms and the bathroom is shared with the other guest staying in the hotel. It’s dirty and definitely not worth your money. There are so many rules that it makes you wonder if you can have any fun on your holiday, these rules of course enforced with us and not the 8 frat boys staying In the room across the hall.

High and mighty

Stayed at Cleggs...was not a great place to stay. The carpet was all stained. The bed was the most uncomfortable bed I’ve ever slept on. The air conditioning wasn’t even installed correctly. The outside was completely exposed by the air conditioning making it unable to cool the room down. For the week day price this was a rip off

Owner writes his own reviews. Watch hotel impossible aired tonight. I looked at web site looks like they didn’t fix the issues. I guess I’ll book at the palms that the host stayed during the air of the show.

I recently completed a very brief visit to Fire Island and had the good fortune of staying at this family owned and operated hotel. The owner/manager coordinated everything for my late Sunday arrival after helping my family to move the original visit arrangements around over the course of a day or so and went above and beyond to provide the best experience. The room I stayed in was very clean, comfy, and had a relaxing vibe. I highly recommend that you stay at this hotel if you're visiting Fire Island!

Great Hotel, Great Managemennt

The moment we arrived Tyler gave us the warmest welcome. Clegg's is a throw back to a real beach vibe vaca.The location is perfect to the beach and all the action . Super fun place perfect for the beach lovers.
