No directions to the hotel are ever provided - nothing on the website and nothing in the confirmation email. This is an issue because when you look up directions on Google Maps, it indicates that you can drive to the hotel, which is not the case. You either have to park on the west side of Fire Island and hike a couple hours, or you have to park at the Fire Island Ferries lot in Bay Shore and take the ferry, which stops running a little after 4pm (in October). This conflicts with a 5pm check-in because that is a really late check-in time, and one is led to believe that the hotel can be accessed later in the afternoon. However, with no ferries operating that late, the only other alternative is to maybe find parking at Robert Moses State Park and hike to 6.5 miles (2 hours). None of this information is provided by the hotel.
No one answers the phone. I called the day I booked the hotel online to confirm the reservation, again at 5pm the day of check-in and left a voicemail with my number, and about a dozen times after that, leaving another voicemail.
The result was I did not get refunded my money, and had to get another hotel.

Neglectful at best

The rate was better than other Fire Island options I explored (at least midweek). So I figured a couple days at the beach would be worth "noisy" in the reviews. I've stayed in Ocean Beach before and it was fine but this time my room was right over Housers bar and the music blasted (even after the bar closed at 4:00 am) until 5:50 am. If you're partying until that hour anyway, the hotel is in a great location and it was clean enough and doesn't require a full week rental like most houses. But if you plan to sleep, forget it!

If you're here for the night life...

The room is very basic and fine. Management was efficient in resolving a few problems that arose but, especially at peak times, there must be someone at front desk earlier and later, than scheduled. However, there is an up to date phone number at the door.

Roxana, friendly and professional, made my time wonderful and did everything possible to make things work.

The room is minimalist and you share a bathroom (with key for hotel residents only). But there was never a problem within the hotel with anything. Our room, albeit small was very clean and comfortable and had a sink, a little furniture and a closet (no TV). We had no issues with noise -- other than the noise outside in the street, which can't be helped or blamed on the hotel. The location here is also very convenient. In Fire island, whether you have a share in a group house or stay in local lodging, the idea is not to be indoors, but on the beach. The price was very reasonable for Fire Island. The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful. In particular, the concierge/front desk staff person, Roxana, was terrific. She helped us get settled in and offered to help us with anything. In addition, the restaurant on the bay is lovely and affordable. Altogether, we had a very lovely July 4th weekend there and we would definitely return.

Perfect for a quick trip

I had a terrible stay here over the weekend.  I saw other reviews that said that this hotel was noisy so I made sure to call before my stay and ask about the noise. The hotel staffer who I spoke with was very rude and condescending, but she assured me that the room would not be loud or over the bar. Both of which were completely false statements. We stayed in room 5, which was unbelievably loud from the music in the bar below. The room literally shook until 3am making it absolutely impossible to sleep.The dimensions of the room are approximately 10x10 feet with a sink next to the bed, the smallest bathroom area I have ever seen and no shower in the room. On top of all of this the bed was very old and loud with musky linens and a dusty carpet. The hotel staff was missing in action all weekend and we never even got a wifi password. I would not stay here again if you paid me and I highly recommend paying more to avoid this hotel at all costs. It is not worth the location or the price.

Awful

This place is all about location, lets be honest here, if you're going to go to Fire Island it won't be for the rest and relaxation. Fire Island is a happening place, great for singles and couples looking to have a fun adventure at the beach where driving doesn't exist and the only way to get in trouble is being as obnoxious as it can possibly get. If you're coming here for a family vacation, be advised: everybody else is drinking heavily. 

Fire island has a very happening bar scene, I mean come on this is where some pretty famous drinks have been invented. Housers is right in the middle of all the action, below the famous Housers Bar thumps away and serves some pretty great food and adjacent the wonderful Hideaway restaurant serves some of the classier meals you'll find on Fire Island.

The accommodations at Housers were perfect for what we needed, two beds, a great view of the Great South Bay, A/C, a bathroom and a shower(shared). The best part about our stay was having Lenny check us in and give us some of the best service around. 

I would highly recommend checking out housers and both restaurants for a fun weekend at Fire Island.

I've never backpacked around Europe. But people tell me that the accommodations at Housers is like that.  Here's what you get:  a room with key, a bed or two (ours had a double and a twin and two windows overlooking the bay, or down at the restaurant patio below), a sink between the beds, an window air conditioning unit, some hooks on the wall, a mirror, and the "water closet".  Yes, it's that small. There are two shared showers/bathroom down the hall.  It's as basic as it gets.  This place is over a bar and restaurant.  We were there over a weekend, and it is noisy, late into the night.  All that being said, we managed to sleep by having the white noise from the air conditioner mask the thumping bass of the music, the showers were fine and clean, and we had no issues. It's hard to rate against the general universe of hotels because clearly this ain't no Hilton or Marriott.  But I think that's what is being asked in this category, and there is no way I can call this even average.  But, if you are in your early 20s, believe in YOLO, want a night on Fire Island and aren't too fussy, you'll be fine.
