Really nice/neat place and the back porch is great to relax, watch the deer, and maybe read a book and not look at the phone! The Inn keepers are wonderful and make a great breakfast! They really make you feel welcomed. Just wish there was shelf space, towel rack, exhaust fan in the bathrooms. We'll definitely be back!! 

Ahhhh. Wonderful place to wind down!

I love Fort Davis for the skies. That's why I go - for star parties, desert sunsets, science lectures and nature hikes. That said, Fort Davis doesn't have much to offer when it comes to hospitality. Most restaurants close after lunch, and "night life" means people go home and sleep. 

The Davis Mountains Inn is a solution to the Fort Davis isolation problem. This 7 bedroom oasis is a pleasant one mile walk from the Fort Davis town square, but if you'd rather stick around in your room for a bit, no problem. There's a home-cooked breakfast every day, with more options than you can eat. Afternoon snack? There's always a muffin or a pastry in the kitchen for you. Privacy? It's a bed and breakfast so . .. effectively it's a house. But this place is built out with seven individual rooms, most of which have their own private baths and outer doors. 
 
This was our second stay at the Davis Mountains Inn, and this time we were delighted to meet and come to know the innkeepers Sid and Elena. I learned about them a little more every day of our stay, through the lovely opportunity to chat over breakfast in their eat-in kitchen. We received top drawer attention, even when the inn was full. We also got tips on where to go eat and what was happening that week (it was their 4th of July celebration). It was like staying with a friend who knew the town, and knew it well.
 
And when the inn was full? We still enjoyed a front porch, a back patio, coffee in the mornings, tea in the afternoons, satellite TV if we wanted it, and all of the Fort Davis scenery. 
 
We found that the price for our room was similar to the pricing of the Hyatt Place - which is where we stayed the week before. Not dirt-cheap, but not expensive either. It was definitely a bargain for the experience. My recommendation? Go during the week if you can. Get a room and get to know the hosts. We will definitely go back soon.

An oasis in the Desert

Sleeping Lion Room is a suite with a large bathroom with a jetted tub big enough for 2 adults. Also a large room for hanging clothes and storage. Great comfortable bed. It has central heat and air. Grounds are beautiful and quiet. Barb the hostess  served great breakfasts each morning and provided valuable information on what to see and do.

Beautiful B&B within a mile from downtown

2 of the 6 rooms are completely without heat during the winter!  We checked into one (the 2 queen suite called the Fisher Hill) on a freezing night when the inside temperatures seemed to be somewhere in the 30s or 40s…  There were a couple of tiny space heaters, and plenty of blankets, but one couple couldn’t take the extreme cold.  So, for the next two nights of our 3 night stay, the proprietor moved that couple to a vacant single queen room that had central heat, with the verbal understanding that the move was fixing a problem at no charge to us. Then when checking out, the proprietor announced that the cost of our three night stay had jumped from $575 to $790.  Unfortunately, once the B&B has your credit card, they apparently have no qualms with sticking you with significant extra costs, even though the cause of the extra cost is that a large portion of their B&B is completely without central heat or A/C.  Apparently, they do have window units for A/C during the summer.  
If thinking of booking, definitely check to see if your room has central heat and A/C!  Elsewise, depending on the weather, you could have an uncomfortably hot or cold stay, or end of paying a lot more than you had originally agreed to pay.

No Central Heat or A/C!

When we planned our original Big Bend vacation for 2020 we booked the Indian Lodge in the State Park which was cancelled due to COVID. When we started rebooking the trip for 2021 Indian Lodge wasn't available. We were very fortunate to book this lovely B&B.  We stayed here for 2 nights and were the only guests. We booked the Sleeping Lion Master Suite which was very nice, with a very large bathroom. Private entrance to the suite and a back porch right off the room for bird watching. The lady who fixes breakfast every morning (Barb) was such a sweetheart. And before we left, the owner came to do some work on the sprinkler system. He was also very nice and appreciative of our stay with him. The B&B is only a few minutes from downtown Fort Davis so it is very convenient to the few restaurants and local establishments in town.

Lovely Bed & Breakfast in a Convenient Location.

I do not like bed and breakfasts from our past experiences. However, this house was different. We had PRIVACY!!! The Sleeping Lion Room was a former master bedroom with bath!!! All the amenities of a hotel!!!! I would highly recommend this lovely bed and breakfast!!!

Great Room!!! 

This is not an inn like Holiday Inn. It is al bed & breakfast, and if you like B&B's you may like this place. On the positive side is a kind-hearted woman who prepares breakfast made to order. But we paid $125 for this sort of room:
•	No one to great you. Have to decipher written instructions on table when you walk in the front door.
•	Our small room had one queen with an old mattress like a hammock.
•	Low slanted ceiling—bump head often
•	Scant counter space in room and bathroom
•	Thrift shop décor in our room but house décor was nicer.
•	No closet, no hangers
•	No desk or desk chair
•	No mini frig, no microwave
•	Noisy ceiling fan
•	Cramped shower with awkward, corroded shower head.
•	No elevator, long stairs to our second-floor room
•	No breakfast until 8 am.

Pros and cons

The inn was perfectly located. Near downtown but off the Main Street. The room was comfy with a private bath, and the bed was great. Loved the rustic feel of the house. 
Barb fixed a big breakfast of bacon, eggs, French toast and juice that was very tasty. 

Solo overnight in Guide Peak room

My wife and I visited the Davis Mountains as part of an anniversary trip. We found the Davis Mountain Inn to be a great place to recoup from a days hiking and plan for the next excursion. It is located just outside of the main drag in Fort Davis, so it is quite and conveniently located. Barb is a West Texas jewel, and she makes superb french toast and eggs.

A Wonderfull Stay

My husband and I stayed in the Fisher Hill Suite for 3 nights in late June while in the area visiting the Davis Mountains.  The suite is very large, like an apartment.  The main issue we had was with the A/C.  There is no central A/C in that suite, only window units.  We ran them full blast on the lowest setting possible with all the ceiling fans on high too, and it did not cool the suite sufficiently.  The bedrooms in the adjacent main inn have central air and that part of the inn seemed cooler, but there is no mini-fridge in any of them.  Breakfast is included with your stay and the food was pretty good.  We were the only guests during the time we were there so we were pleased with the social distancing we were able to maintain.  There aren't many choices for accommodations in Fort Davis and if we stay there again, we will choose a different room.
