I stayed there for about a week and a half after I got back from a deployment and was looking for a place to live. I got a queen sized suite for a reasonable price. The front desk staff were professional and exceptionally friendly. When I had to keep changing my check out date, they were more than accommodating. The room was spacious and clean. The free breakfast was nice but nothing special. The fact that part of the building was apartments meant there was no bar, which was a little annoying but not a deal breaker. If I needed to, I would stay there again.

Stayed for a week after deployment

I am a resident of Ft Walton Beach, Fl, my mom and step-dad always visiting me, &  Cayo grande is the only place they will stay.  The rooms are always clean, the linens are always clean, great parking, wonderful staff, clean pools, just an awesome hotel.  My mom and step-dad are very pleased and will be visiting again very soon!!!

Very Pleased

I stated at this property during our family trip to Florida in late part of July.  It was a busy season and the Destin/Ft. Walton area hotels were quite pricey but I was lucky to find this property that is only 10 mins drive from the beach.  I got a room in a second floor right by a pool and it seemed there were not many guests during that time and it was quiet.  The room was spacious and relatively clean.  The staff was nice and free breakfast was a great bonus.  This property probably has seen better days in 1990's or 2000's but it's still a good value and I'd stay here again if we visit Ft. Walton again in the future.

Great Value for the Money

This is a large property that contains several buildings, including facilities for vacationers, long-term/extended stay, and apartments.  It is owned/managed by Southern Ventures. Please be sure to read my comments at the end of this review regarding the resolution of problems we encountered during our stay in September, 2013.  
We had booked a Concierge Suite at the hotel for a month-long stay while house-hunting in the area.  We ended our stay after a few nights because of a long list of issues.  Here are some of the issues:  (1) although building entry was supposed to be by key card, the main entry door was broken and could be opened without it. (2) Lighting in the parking area was minimal because much of it did not work or was very dim. (3) Cleanliness was a huge problem, including dirty upholstery on the sofa and chair, stained linens on the bed, dirty carpets that left my house shoes filthy, black dust on top of the hair dryer holder which was coming out of the AC vent, stains and rips in the carpet in the elevator and hallway, and very dusty lamp shades.  Other issues include:  only faux wood blinds (no black out curtains for day-sleepers), poor television clarity, very lumpy mattress, no desk, only once-a-week housekeeping service, dirty dishes in the kitchen cabinet, and very dirty areas on the stacked washer/dryer and water heater.  Also note that one sprinkler head was in a pantry.  Breakfast was in another building across a road that was only partially paved.  When we gave noticed that we intended to check out early, our rate went from about $75/day to about $140/day, which was not explained during the reservation process.  NOW, THE RESOLUTION:  I took lots of photos inside and outside the suite.  When I showed them to the manager at checkout, our room rate was adjusted accordingly.  Because of this adjustment, I almost decided not to write this review.  However, after a couple of weeks deliberation, I wanted other business travelers to know the condition of this hotel before making a decision that might affect their family and budget. Mixed use property

We stayed three nights this past weekend. When we arrived, the woman behind the counter wasn't very friendly, and they charged me $50.00, in case something was broken, but later put it back in my acct. There was nothing about that money when I booked the room, and we were short for our trip. The website made this place look great, but it wasn't. We had to stay on the other side of the road, which was being worked on. When you walked into the building the trash was overflowing and the carpets were disgusting. The trash nor carpets were cleaned the entire time we were there. The room was okay, but you had to walk through filth to get to it. This place falls under the false advertisement category, and I won't be returning.
