Recently stayed here for a couple of nights while visiting the area. Located right on a river, convenient to Franconia Notch State Park and other area attractions. Spotlessly clean.  No hot breakfast due to covid precautions but plenty of items packed into a bag for breakfast--way more than we could eat (yogurt, applesauce, cereal bars, juice, muffins, bagels..) Helpful about providing extra cups, coffee, etc.  Very quiet. Would stay here again if in the area.

Great location, nice place!

Hillwinds Lodge is an old-fashioned sort of family place, a little bit retro, but very comfortable and friendly. The room we had was extremely clean and very spacious— not the most modern but furnished with everything we needed: plenty of storage space, refrigerator, microwave, air conditioning that worked, and a well-stocked bathroom. Beds were comfortable with extra pillows and blankets. There was even free ice! Due to COVID, the breakfast was served in a paper sack. It was nothing special— but generous and ample: yogurt, muffins, bagels, apples or oranges, juice. We didn’t see much of the owners, but they were very friendly when we did. We enjoyed the spotless outdoor pool after a day of sightseeing, too! If we are back in the White Mountains, we will certainly stay at the Hillwinds.

Lots of TLC at the Hillwinds

We love the Hillwind Lodge. Super clean and comfortable. So peaceful and quite. Rooms have been updated with new carpets, curtains, lamps and bedding.  Bathrooms are redone as well. Very clean and modern.  The owners are always such a joy to talk to.   We will continuing to stay at the Hillwinds every chance we get.  😘🥰😍

Hidden 💎

We stayed 2 days and it was GREAT. The rooms were clean, the staff was friendly and the setting was breathtaking. We will be back and bring our whole family. Highly recommend. Our room overlooked a beautiful river. There was a fire going the entire time.

Showed the management the website that showed that they were pet-friendly. He saw it and stated that they were wrong however did charge me the $150.00 fee. I proved that it was an honest mistake. Wasn't expecting anything for free but when they said it's not pet friendly and I have pictures of a dog staying at the facility it made me feel like I  was just being singled out. The place was okay does need to be updated was just wishing they would've been more understanding.

Not Very Understanding

We have been coming here for years now, always do clean and friendly. It really feels like family .Tina and deane are so great!

The best!!!

Motel-like B&B. Due to Covid, the breakfast came in a paper bag but was fresh and adequate (yogurt, pastry, juice, fruit) with coffee maker in the room. Rooms are a bit outdated but clean and comfortable. We almost stayed in Franklin NH, or Stowe, VT. Both are tourist traps. Franconia is a small town with everything you need for a base of operations and convenient to the national forest and a two-hour drive from Stowe if you absolutely MUST visit the Von Trapp Lodge and like traffic jams.Try to arrive before dark, as there are no street lights and the one-way bridge across the Gale River is almost impossible to find in the dark. The "bistro" collocated with Chef Joe's Catering offers unbelievable dining compared to the exterior of the place. If you are looking for nightlife, you are in the wrong town. Franconia would roll up the sidewalks at sunset if it had any sidewalks.
TIP: Take the scenic drive through the White Mountain National Forest from east to west (Conway to Franklin) since all the turn-offs are on the north side of the highway along the stream.

Quiet retreat by a bubbling stream

I was a bit anxious about this stay. I always stay at hotels I know but this lodge was affordable and available for our overnight stay in Franconia. It was fantastic. Extremely clean, room smelled clean. Besides that what I loved was the fact that you have grills available to you, there are benches near the river, they have a fire pit you can use, they supply the wood, and there is a good size pool too. They have corn holes, and a volley ball net. The grounds are beautiful and nicely maintained. They provided a light breakfast of muffins, cereal bars, orange juice and fruit cups. My only advise is pick a room on the 2nd floor because you can hear your upstairs neighbors. Thankfully by 10pm they quieted down. I highly recommend it!

Overnight in Fanconia

Stayed two nights over the weekend here with no issues. The room could use some updating but we stayed here for price and convenience. We visited the NH ice castles and went skiing on this particular stay and the location of the hotel was perfect for us. The staff was friendly and they had a small continental breakfast that was included. The heat in the room worked well and the shower was hot which was good since it was -11 degrees outside. I bet staying here in the summer is even better when you can enjoy the south day of the water going by and make use of the outdoor pool. We had a fridge and microwave in the room which was nice but if you use the fridge just make sure to turn it on first.

Winter Adventure

Plenty of towels, pillows, outlets. Great front desk staff. Continental breakfast was about average. They have great hiking trails right off the property. They also have swings for just hanging out, and yard games set up. Plenty of parking, and we paid extra to be right on the little creek/river. Was worth it. Great way to wake up. One thing that was a con was the heater. It was very loud. Went on every half hour or so, and was very loud. Would get quieter as it continued, but it was hard to get a good night's sleep with it.
