Stayed here in January 2022 on a cross-country business trip. The original plan was to keep going, but snowstorms along the route precipitated a stop in Gallup. Having stayed many times along B-40 in Gallup, I was looking for a low-cost room with a minimum of frills. The room was definitely very experienced (some of the furniture could have been 50 years old), but I had a good evening's rest.

Basic place to get some sleep

I stayed for over two months while on contract work, would of stayed longer but they shut down for renovations. The management was nice and very accommodating. I had absolutely no problems with them. I never once in the two months I was there felt unsafe and the door had a deadbolt and no one ever bothered me. They upgraded me to a king size with no extra charge because of my stay. The water pressure was great and never run out of hot water and the bed was one of the most comfortable I've slept in in a motel. If you're looking for five star or even the  Taj mahal then you need to look somewhere else but for a good night's sleep for a good price this is the perfect place to be.

Single female traveler!!!!!!

My husband and I travel often. Being young, we try to stay in cheaper accommodations. With our short stay at this motel, we have learned that cheap motels are not worth life threatening scares like what we experienced here. Driving through the night, we realized we could not make it to our next destination and needed to find a place to stay. At midnight, we got a room and around 3:00 a.m. is when we were woken up by frightening commotions outside. Locals were breaking into rooms and busting down motel room windows. I tried calling the front desk numerous times to send help and NEVER got a response. Quickly realizing they were unreliable, I helplessly called 911. For about 7 minutes, my husband and I were terrified not knowing if our room was next. When the cops showed up we were informed that this was “normal behavior” in this area. On top of all of this, the manager almost refused to give me a refund for our 3 hour stay. This motel is not safe, unreliable and inconsiderate of their costumers. 

Most Terrifying Stay

I have been sitting here trying to conjure up something positive to say about this motel, but na, the positive vibes like the gooney bird are extinct.

Where to begin...the chair in the room.  Kind of like one of those office chairs with the handle on the right side so you can adjust the height of the chair.  Fair enough.  I cranked it on high, but felt like the shrinking man sitting in the chair.  Tried to extend several times but always ended up with my knees around my eye balls.  
The ceiling light cover in the room was filled with a variety in abundance of deceased winged insects.  I wanted to do carbon dating on said deceased, but thought better of it, as I headed to the bathroom.  One third of a roll of toilet paper and that was it.  On the wall beside the sink was a metal container that held a box of kleenex but no tissue protruded from the slit, so absolutely dysfunctional.  Gazing at the ceiling I could see where the paint roller had left a stripe around the sides of the walls.  The best part was the bed.  I always check along the top edge for creepy crawlies. Believe it or not, none found, but...and this is really a good one, there was only one sheet on the bed.  A mattress cover and one sheet.  But I fooled them...I folded the one sheet over so half on the bottom and half on the top.
Outside the room were cigarette butts, and 6 different pieces of paper garbage.  The manager happened by, looked at the garbage between my room and the next, and continued with his walk. 
I rate this establishment lower than a snake's belly in a wagon rut!

Grungy and grotty

Beaten up, run down, disgusting hellhole. The towels looked like they haven't been washed since '99, the T.Vs are ancient, very outdated and dirty, the soap/body wash dispenser was all out and had enough for just a small bit, the windows look gross and like they haven't been kept well. Ominous and creepy aura throughout the motel.

On arrival the owner said my room was not ready. The only one ready was a king size. So I paid the extra.
First mistake. The bed was not a kingsize. The room was dingy, had dated furniture. The bathroom looked like it hadn’t been touched since the 50’s.  You may say it adds to the character. 
Before unpacking anything I thought I would go for a walk down the road to see the famous El Rancho Hotel as its only a 5 min walk. I passed at least three beggars. Not good when you’re on your own.
The El Rancho hotel was amazing.
On my return to my room I felt unnervey with the surroundings. Back in the room, within half an hour the guests in the next room was banging on the wall. Slamming the doors and shouting at each other. I hadn’t even unpacked or switched the tv on. So I knew it wasn’t me.
I went to the main office to try and change rooms. It was closed. So I thought give it one night.
So back in the room I locked the door which really wouldn’t take much to kick in. The lock was flimsy and the door had gaps all round it. I even put a table behind the door. It wouldn’t help much but made me feel safer.
During the night I was woken by someone out side. It was the owner trying to get rid of some guy who was roaming the car park. 
That was it I’d made my mind up to get out of there.
I was booked in for two nights so in the morning I went  office to see if I could get another room or at least check out and try and get some money back. Wrong, the office wasn’t even open. So I just posted the key and left.
This motel is cheap. You get what you pay. And some unwelcome people around.
In summary I wouldn’t stay here again. Even if it was for free.


Never again

I was in room 118.  The room was a good size.   The bed was very comfortable.  The front desk clerk was very friendly and helpful.  I noticed, in the bathroom, that it looked like mold around the bottom of the tub and under the sink area.  There was no coffee.  The locks on the door were a little iffy, but they did lock.  The tv seemed outdated.
Other than that, it was a cute little motel and I may stay there again.
