We can not say enough about this charming B&B.  Barbara and Dave make you feel like family!  Not only is this a beautiful place but the owners are precious!  The breakfast was like heaven ! The room was charming.it is a wonderful B&B, fabulous breakfast, and charming appeal.  The owners are like old friends, that is how welcoming they are!  I recommend this beautiful Victorian home!

There's not a better B&B

My fiancé booked us a few nights at Lost Bayou Guesthouse to celebrate my birthday and have a “stay cation”. Dave and Barbara were AMAZING hosts. We truly left feeling like we made new friends. The house is GORGEOUS and the backyard is so peaceful and relaxing. The food was super delicious and the history and charm of Galveston can’t be beat!

Relaxing Birthday Getaway

Barbara and Dave were such wonderful hosts! They made us feel like we were visiting good friends.  Delicious breakfast, great conversation and a quaint, clean home. They were so sincere about making our stay enjoyable and went above and beyond to help when we had car trouble. We would highly recommend this bed and breakfast to anyone!

Relaxing getaway

Adorable, updated and renovated, antique style B&B. Barbara and Dave (the innkeepers) provides an absolutely wonderful experience overall. The rooms are comfortable and eloquently decorated, there's a great supply of amenities (i.e. toiletries, TV, coffee/tea, a hospitality room with drinks and snacks available, homemade cookies, etc.) and a beautiful patio/ garden area.  It was peaceful and quiet throughout our stay easy to come and go with the keyless locks, lots of outdoor seating to enjoy the evening breeze, a delicious restaurant quality breakfast is provided, and the home is located within a 15 minute walk of the beach and pier.

Adorable, Renovated and Classic B&B with Excellent Hospitality

I missed the note that there was no kids under 10 allowed in this B&B. I was offered no refund or partial refund after my 4 1/2 hour drive. The front desk lady was VERY RUDE and even followed me out to my car showing me how there was a note for NO KIDS UNDER 10 YEARS OLD. I could forgive this mistake, except, the front desk lady said, "if you can figure out something to do with the kids then the two adults can stay". Like... what? What am I suppose to do with the kids? Leave them on the beach? If you're looking for a family friendly B&B this is not the place. The room I reserved was on the 3rd floor with no elevator (not convenient for an elderly or handicapped person). I would not recommend only because the front lady was so rude. I stayed at the Comfort Inn in Texas City and had the best time with the kids. I highly recommend the Texas City Comfort Inn!!! Also, there was limited parking - had to park on the street and was surrounded by residential housing. I am not sure if this is a safe part the surrounding houses seemed poorer than other parts of the island.

NO KIDS 10 AND UNDER - NOT A FAMILY FRIENDLY PLACE!!!

I will tell you that this is the only place we stay! Not only is it a beautiful Victorian home, its stunning.  Barbara and Dave are fabulous host and hostess. They make you feel like family from the first minute you enter this beautiful home.  The smell of fresh cookies and warm muffins greet you at the door.  The rooms are authentic and just beautiful.  We stayed in the sea breeze room.  Very very clean and very Covid friendly.  We felt so calm and relaxed , and very safe at all times.   The breakfast was phenomenal. Every morning was an experience of pure delight.  The coffee was delicious. They always let us ask questions for the day, and helped us out for the day.  We stay every year, and would not have it any other way.  They treat you like family.  We love Lost Bayou

Relaxing and calming

We had a great weekend at the Lost Bayou Guest House. Dave and Barbara are the best hosts. They made sure we were well versed on things to do, places to eat, and even the history of Galveston. The rooms were beautifully furnished and each evoked a personality of their own. The common areas (inside and outdoors) were stocked with everything we needed. Barbara’s breakfast was an absolute delight and wonderfully delicious. 
     The location of Lost Bayou is such that it’s just a short walk to the beach and a short drive to the downtown area. Dave’s suggestion to do a self-guided walking tour of the tree stump sculptures (carved by chainsaw) was a big hit with our family. We also enjoyed taking an out-and-back trip on the Galveston-Port Bolivar ferry as walk-ons. Dolphins swim along the ferry and are easy to spot during the short voyage. Although the ferries run very frequently, the wait to board was much shorter than if we had driven our car aboard. 

Great stay in Galveston 

Places like the “Lost Bayou” are the ultimate B&B experience. The hosts (Dave and Barbara) are friendly, easily engage in interesting and informational conversation; house is clean and has character (tastefully decorated with antiques); breakfast is delicious; a fridge with free bottled water, juice and sodas is available all day long; the front porch and garden are amazing; and the tips they give about places to go on the island are really priceless. 
This is not the hotel/corporate experience. It is much more personal, warmer and better!

Wonderful oasis

The breakfast is really nice. Expect family style casserole egg options, a side of meat, muffins, fruit bowls etc. No complaints. The hosts are very personable people and certainly add. The community room is nice with refreshments, coffee, cookies, juices, etc. available 24 hours a day. Note, there are no TVs in the rooms and the only one is in the community room so first come, first channel.

I depend on the reviews of trip advisor for decisions where to stay. The reviews are very misleading for this place. For starters, you are not in walking distance of the Strand (where the restaurants are) unless you are prepared to walk 2 miles through scary land. You will be walking through the ghetto. We took Uber which worked quite well. The property location is centered meaning you will need a car to get where you want to go. There is nothing close by (bars/restaurants) except Sonnys a few blocks away and worth a try. Otherwise, take Uber for safety.

The area, which no one mentions, is in steep decline and in fact is bordering on ghetto. When there are boarded up windows, couches on the front porches, trash in the front yards like traffic cones, containers, old appliances, etc.. You are in a ghetto. Funny though, you go over two blocks and the atmosphere is totally different, 

When I pay $200 a night, I have high expectations for quality. I am expecting the quality I would experience at Venetian, Bellagio, and Wynn. This place fell way short of those standards and I will list them. Fort starters, toss out all of the beds and mattresses and replace them with $200 a night comforts. Stop shopping at Goodwill for the bed linens and buy high end cotton bed sheets - think the pillow man. At the properties I mentioned, you get your bed made, linens refreshed, towels replaced, etc, whether you want it done or not. No such policy here. There should be no asking if you want fresh towels. You just do it. In fact, it seemed the less they could do for you the better since it resulted in less work load. Another suggestion is to throw out all of the old furniture which is just junk. You can start with the balcony. You should be able to sit out on the balcony and not worry about what you are touching. In the rooms when you sit in a chair and you drop 2 feet, it is time to throw the chair out. This is the year 2019. It is time for central air and heating. Having heaters in the windows which click on and off every 5 minutes keeps most people awake when they are trying to sleep. Not an enjoyable experience. Plus, businesses like this has a lot of traffic. It needs to be cleaned daily which I did not see. 

Would I recommend staying here? If you are coming to take the cruise ship and just need a bed and morning breakfast, this would be fine. I think most reviews come from this target market. Otherwise, I would pass. At $200 a night, I do not care about the personality of the cooks, I care about the quality of the stay. This review may be strong but I come from an area with high hospitality standards. I hope it helps.

Good but Needs Help

The Lost Bayou Guesthouse is a great place to stay while exploring Galveston. My chosen room on the third floor [Santa Fe] was just perfect, with a very comfortable bed, reading chair and a desk to keep my notes. The floor has two rooms that share a bathroom, but I was the only one on the floor. If I'd known how steep the stairs were and how many times I'd go up and down, I would have picked a lower floor. The owners were out of town when I was there, but our hostess for the weekend, Kellye Graham, was wonderful and made the most amazing breakfasts. The house was beautifully kept and within a few blocks of the seawall and a number of great places to eat. I had a great stay and look forward to my next visit.
