King's Rest is kept very clean. Their care for maintaining the property shows. So I would stay here again. My room had a fridge and a microwave. Strangely there are no towel racks. No lamps on the bedside stands. There is decent ceiling light. There was no iron or hairdryer provided. No shampoo or conditioner, only soap. So fortunately for me I travel with all these items because I have been in this situation before. Just be aware that you will need these items. They have an ice machine, but it is a vending one, so costs 25 cents. The showerhead for my room (105) needs to be replaced. It is pretty much spurting out all water and very little spray. But overall for the price it is a good value. The motel is kept up well.

Very Good for a Budget Motel

A very nice place to stay when in Gilroy.  Right off the freeway, close to restaurants and the outlets.  2 miles from Garlic Festival.  Owner/manager very friendly and helpful.  Free high-speed WIFI (144mbs).  Bill/coin taking soda vending machine, ice for 25 cents a bucket (coin), and lots of free parking.  Rooms have a queen bed, dresser, round table with 2 chairs, shower, sink, flat screen TV with cable channels, microwave, good AC, and small refrigerator (no coffee maker). Bring your own shampoo and facial tissue.  You can only turn right, to get out of the motel.

Very clean, and well maintained motel

The King's Rest Motel is an older place, located on CA 152 west, downtown.  The overall appearance of this motel is spotless: each room is very clean, from the carpets and windows to the bathrooms, which is a plus for me.  

The prices are right.  I don't know how Gilroy got the memo that it was okay to charge $100-130 per night for simple, chain motel rooms, i.e., M6, Super 8 etc, but they can and do, so this makes the King's Rest an especially attractive place to stay for an evening, or more.  $79 plus tax buys you a simple, clean place to lay your head!

A couple of bonuses:  BBQ 152 is one block up from the King's Rest, and there is a pancake place right next store.  And of course, you are directly on CA 152 West, so you are pointed toward Montery, CA and the Pacific Ocean.

A great, clean room and excellent BBQ a few feet away?  The King's Rest is a no-brainer.  Give 'em a try, I doubt you will be disappointed.

Extremely Clean, Friendly Staff, and Great BBQ Almost Next Door

After searching on the coast and finding hotels averaging $250 per night, we drove into Watsonville and could not find private non-label hotels.  We drove east to Gilroy.  The drive east to Gilroy over the mountain is scenic with redwood groves along the way.  King's rest was $122 with tax for the night.  It is a roadway motel.  It is the basics.  Wifi is available.  Better signal than most hotels.  From room 107, I was able to stream Amazon and Netflix.

Basic, Clean, Affordible

The room was clean and was ok for a very short overnight stay. But if you want to wash your hair bring your own shampoo - the only amenity was a small bar of soap. The sheets were soft and I was able to sleep well.

Very Basic

It's a basic motel. Probably ok for one night stay. But that's about it. I found the room to be rather uncomfortable. 
The check in took waaaay too long: it's a family run hotel, so when we showed up a woman was behind the counter, but she asked us to wait for her husband so that he could check us in. The husband arrived 10 min later in his car. I found that rather bizarre. 
The room (2 double beds) was small and crammed. No coffeemaker. The cleanliness of the room was not that great either: my son found some trash under the bed. The mattresses were comfortable though. The bathroom was super small (a toilet, a shower stall and a sink with no surfaces to put your toiletries on). Only one person could fit in there art a time. The towels were old, thin and hard. 
The room smelled heavy of a cleaning solution. Had to turn AC unit on. It's an old wall unit that looked rather dirty. 
Ice machine: they charge 25 cents for a small bucket of ice! whaaat?!@  seriously??
Sorry, but for the price I paid (close to 100 bucks) i think I would add another 30 and stay in a more decent establishment.

Can recommend this property

Use it as a last resource. Everything is of the least acceptable quality. Towels smell of bleach. Even in the back rooms the noise of the road can be heard loud and clear. The only good memory is the dinner next door, a classical and good one.

Avoid

My husband stayed here and it was a good thing it was not a family trip. He was extremely perplexed as to why a non-smoking Hotel would have four ashtrays in his room. Yes, FOUR ASHTRAYS in a NON-smoking room! He said the room smelled like stale smoke as well. Being the parents of an asthmatic child this would have been a serious problem. We would not have been able to stay there with our daughter; we would have had to have found new accommodations. A non-smoking room should be non-smoking all the time, not just when nobody is smoking.
