This hotel consists of an old Victorian mansion, full of interesting items on display. You could spend hours studying the many books, pictures, knick-knacks, and other items in the place. The hotel has a relaxing, quaint feel to it. Our room was very large and comfortable. The place is run by a family, a couple and their 3 children. Everyone was very friendly. The bed was very comfortable and the air conditioning was fine on a very hot day. We got a GREAT gift package from them, with wine, a massage device, some candy, etc.). They have some interesting items for sale as well. 
We really loved this place, but I will mention some potential negatives. There are lots of stairs, so this might not be ADA compliant. Parking is on the street, but the neighbors are friendly and did not mind us parking there (we asked!). Because of COVID, breakfast was a breakfast sandwich and a cinnamon roll in the fridge, with some OJ. On the other hand, we had a sit down dinner there that was quite good! We just had grilled cheese sandwiches and a nice Caprese-type salad.

Eclectic hotel, great experience

I am really glad I was able to find this hotel for my Shawnee National Forest trip considering the fact that I decided to travel there at the last second. The hosts that live at the property are the nicest and most accomodating people. I very much enjoyed my stay at the Riverview Mansion Hotel. I always like finding unique accommodation and this hotel decorated in victorian style was a perfect weekend getaway. I also liked the restaurant available to hotel guests with housemade meals and an excellent selection of beer and wines. I would definitely come back again.

Charming hotel

My wife loves to hike in the Shawnee National Forest and i love finding quaint little places to surprise her with for our accommodations. When i found the Riverview Mansion Hotel i knew she would love it. we got to spend a Sunday evening in their funky bar with Beth and Amy and they were super. They made us feel very welcome and helped us with beer selections from their collection and our dinner was excellent. i would highly recommend an overnight stay if you are ever in the area.

Late fall get away!

A fellow camper recommended eating here, and it was wonderful! The food was good, and the atmosphere was the best! The house is incredible! If you're in town, it’s a must see. Note: Reservations required.

Such a neat experience!

This charming little hotel has really stayed with me.  My husband and I stayed for 6 nights in mid September in the Lewis and Clark suite.   We were warmly greeted by Beth, the proprietress, perhaps the hardest working woman in Southern Il.  The hotel is decorated in proper Victorian style; everywhere your eye lands, there is something to see.  Our room was both lavish and cozy, beds were comfortable, linens very nice.  There was a small tv, fridge and microwave in a cute little console.  There's not a lot of space in which to store personal belongings, this bothered my husband because he didn't like the thought of our stuff interfering with the decor of our room. 
The Riverview Mansion bills itself as a hotel, but think of it more like an Inn.  Meaning, there is no daily maid service, your room is considered private during your stay.  However, Beth is very attentive to our needs and we were always stocked with fresh towels etc.  There is also no ice machine, but there is a very well stocked grocery store a few blocks away and the mini fridge kept the ice frozen, handy for all of our day trips.  
The Riverview was a great jumping off place for all of our adventures, near to Garden of the Gods, and Cave in Rock park, and a couple of other little riverside towns.   Farther afield, we also went to the Cypress Swamp, and the town of Makanda, and Giant City state park.  
It was blistering hot and humid during our stay but our room was always cool and comfy.  The main floor living room and dining room are available for guests to use, there are books literally everywhere in this home.  The front porch became my favorite place to read in the shady mornings.  Breakfast was laid out for us every morning and it was always delicious.   
The house is QUIET.  Beth and Tony have 4 children, my husband and I are late sleepers, and yet we never once heard the family getting ready for the day and leaving for school.  On our final night we finally met the children, what a nice bunch of kids.  On that night, we also ate at the Levee Lounge, and really enjoyed that.  This is a charming little place and I hope I get to go back there again.

Last Night I Dreamed of Riverview

My husband and I stayed the night and found it to be the perfect little getaway.  The on site bar was very cool and it offers many wines and beer from around the world. The room we stayed in was well decorated (SO many knick knacks to enjoy) and comfortable. The mattress was ah-ma-zing. Such a good nights sleep (if you like a softer mattress which we do).  We also enjoyed our breakfast.  The hospitality was incredible and we'll definitely show up again.  We stayed in the honeymoon suite, which does not have a shower - so if you are OK with a bath only, then this is OK for you.  We also stayed in August, and found some rooms within the mansion to be on the warmer side.  Our room had an a/c unit, so it was fine.
Oh - by the way stop at the Chocolate Factory on the way in or out.  It's some of the best chocolate we ever ate (and I can only do sugar free).

Relaxing Stay

We spend a night at the Riverview Mansion on 08/12/2018, heading down the road to Shawnee National Forest. The mansion itself, and all the surroundings are truly amazing. 

It is old enough to feel the postbellum atmosphere and has all the necessary modern appliances. It reminds me of the Dacota Building in NYC, as it was portrayed in Jack Finney's "Time and again". Some fellow travelers were reporting that there are many imperfections in the interior — come on! For such a building, the imperfections are the intangible part of an image, and I don't mind to pay for it. 

As for parking, it is on the street. I had no problem to park my full-size car. 

I especially want to express my gratitude to the management. The owners and their entire family are great, hard-working people. Hope to be your guest again.

Eclectic interior, great surroundings, enjoyable service. 5/5.

We came here to hike the Shawnee National Forest and this hotel definitely added to our adventure.  Filled with all sorts of decor and nick knacks to amuse you, it was a restored mansion for weary travelers with high ceiling bedrooms.  They had a restaurant and wine/craft beer bar to add to the ambiance with floor to ceiling wine bottles to choose from.  Unfortunately the air conditioning in our room had not been turned down ahead of time so when we arrived it was hot and humid and took till the next day for it to cool down.  You might request they adjust the air before your arrival.  Also know that the reservation seems to be for beds, not rooms as we reserved for 5 adults, 1 infant and only got two rooms (one with double queens).  It worked out okay but other people might not want to share a room.  Finally the hosts were very nice and accommodating,  even their children were very mannerly and delightful to talk with.
