We were group of people traveling thru and came across Sands Motel in Grants, NM. 

This was by far more bang for your buck. Clean rooms, comfortable beds, no nonsense at all. Quick check in and very easy check out.

The front desk I believe is the owner as well was very informative and seemed he takes his place seriously and doesn't want trouble. Plus his accent his great. I had an amazing time talking to him. 

He and his wife really take care of the place and I visited this place few tears back and for sure they are making lots of changes. Truly love it, .

I recommend this place to all of my friends and family. I will certainly will be coming back.

Excellent place to stay, quite and clean

I do not understand the comments below, I did not experience any of it.. the host was exceptional, took extra care and was genuinely was taking care of us.

The place is definitely going under remodel and we had one of the newer remodeled room and couldn't ask for anything better... clean a d exceptional...

I will stay here over and over again...

The owner is old and their is bit of a language barrier and I believe people take that wrong.. 

This is America people... I truly loved it and will recommend to everyone I know.

Great place..

I travel sometimes for work and the Sands Hotel, located in Grants, NM, was quiet and inexpensive. The night manager was polite and accommodating.  My room was clean, hot high-pressure shower and I like supporting local businesses. So if you are ever in Grants NM, stay at the Sands Hotel.

Quiet and quaint hotel

We were one a cross-country journey on a tight budget and chose hotel/motels that fit the budget.  Not only did this motel meet the price, the hotel owners were friendly, the rooms were clean (and smelled nice) and the heater/AC unit in the room was quiet.  This vintage motel is about 2 miles off of Hwy 40 and definitely worth the consideration for a clean and comfortable night's sleep.

This is a 2-star hotel that meets expectations above its rating.  Don't expect perfection, expect vintage.  This is a great budget-conscience gem.

Clean and Comfortable at a Great Price

This is a BUDGET MOTEL but in our estimation, a very good value for the price. We paid a room rate for 2 people of $45ish USD for Room 117. The proprietor and his daughter (guessing 10 years old) were delightful, super friendly and helpful. The room had a new air conditioning unit that worked like a champ. While carpet was old, the room was very clean. The room is large -- two people with two beds will not trip over each other. No coffee pot in room, but coffee can be had at the front desk, we understand. We were very pleased at the value for price. It's one street off the beaten path, so less noisy than some other concerns.

For the price, great budget accommodations & friendly staff

It was the best night's sleep I'd had in a long time - it was so peaceful!

For a motel there really isn't much more you could ask for. The place was very clean, the staff were friendly, the bed was comfortable and (bug-free!), and I felt safe.

I dabbled with the idea of giving the motel four stars because the water was undrinkable at the time of staying, but I had such a great night's sleep it really doesn't matter.

Fantastic!

Chose the Sands based on historic value. Price was right too. We love motels on road trips as we can park in front of our room and keep an eye on  our rig. 

This place was easy to find. Checkin was simple. I was (not pleasantly) surprised to learn there was an additional $5/pp fee for the room, above what was advertised. Fine, just be transparent in advertising and posting prices. Every other policy/fee was obvious on the booking platform and in the office. 

Room was clean and quiet. While the hotel is historic, decor is more “early 90’s vintage” but functional. This was a good place to get a decent rest; we felt safe and comfortable and didn’t worry about leaving our truck and gear in the lot overnight.

Friendly owner. Pets welcome with extra charge. Quiet, well lit parking lot. Carpet was worn in spots. Bed linens were clean. Tv was impossible to figure out how to work it. No bugs. We left without taking advantage of the free continental breakfast.

Bed was clean and comfortable

This is a charming vintage motel...simple, clean and inexpensive. Our room was large with a king bed. Parking is conveniently right in front of each door. The area was quiet...just a block off the main road through town...and within walking distance of a restaurant. The staff is friendly and helpful. We’ll definitely stay here again.

Great value for a good night’s sleep!

Our tidy room demonstrated that you only really need enough room for a bed, a dresser, and paths to the bathroom and front door. It didn't hurt that the bedspread was fresh and thoughtfully chosen. The proprietors are very nice people.
And the prices couldn't have changed much since the '60s.
