We do a lot of traveling with our concerts, so we try to get cheaper places to stay that are not terrible... So, I always cringe when we first go into the room we got. I got in, and it looked pretty good, very small, but nice. The more I kept looking, the better it got. It is an old motel, but the owner's (husband and wife team), have been slowly working on each room, to get it up to par. The carpet was very cool, sort of high tech browns in various squares, nice fridge, art on the walls, AC didn't smell bad when it was on. BUT the bathroom was awesome. you could tell it was updated, still had the old hot water register, but painted over well, and everything else was pristine... nice tile floor, nice shower, nice sink with water filter underneath. But what impressed me was the way someone took time to really do it right. No weird paint over bumps and tears, no weird cut under door to make it shorter, no sticker marks where a towel handle used to be... it was all perfectly done. Even the caulking was a perfect strip along the floor, shower, toilet, sink... I told the owner that he must have had a good handyman, and he said he did it himself. The yard was nice too, with signs to tell folks to pick up after their dog. I love that they had no smoking or pets normally in the rooms, since I am allergic. And it was very quiet overnight, unlike a lot of places we have stayed, where people gather outside your door and smoke and drink til 2... Then they both let us leave our van there after check out, so we could go do some biking. They have a wonderful paved bike trail right across the road, and we biked about 15 miles to Hartwick Pines and back. What a great morning!!

Inexpensive, but very clean

You just need to know what you’re getting. The bathroom and bed were very clean. The motel is old. It is not luxurious, but the room was roomy and clean. The bed was quite comfortable. The clerk was very polite. The walls are thin as paper. I heard the people upstairs get up at 4:30. Squeak squeak they walked and talked. But oh well. The town is so quaint and the people are so nice. This is very doable for a one night stop over. There is a bike trail across the street. Clean and comfortable.

Good Enough

We stopped here just for a single night and after a few misgivings about the potential for noise we were happy with the stay and the noise didn't eventuate.

The room was quite small but for a single night it was most suitable. Our room had a small kitchenette but we didn't use it. The bathroom was also small but suitable. Overall the cost was low but were were very happy.

Beds were confortable and we slept well. No street noise during the night.

Wifi was feee but quite slow.

Great for a night

I was not able to stay here on my last trip to Grayling. They were full. It looked like a friendly, family place to stay. The property was clean and they had reasonable rates. Close to town and the AuSable river.

Disappointment.

When we arrived we were given a room that had been smoked in - disgusting and obvious. There was a small discussion about whether it was cigarettes or if the previous long term occupant had been cooking in there every day. Either way, it was disgusting and made us wonder about the general cleanliness of the place.

The second room had not been smoked in and was “ok”.

The rooms are cramped and overdue on an update. Towels were like sandpaper.

Would not recommend.

Not the best - even for the price.

Grayling was halfway through our roadtrip to the UP, so I searched for local hotels/motels to stop. I ended up picking this one because of pricing, pictures, location, pet friendliness, and positive reviews on Expedia. When we checked in we were politely told that we were supposed to let them know if we have a pet or not, and that it would be a $25 fee. We're frequent travelers, and I'm used to being asked that during the booking process if it is an issue-- apparently this is not done through Expedia, so I was bummed to have to pay an additional unknown fee. However, it was a torrential downpor outside and we were ready to be off the road, so we paid it and went on our way. Shortly after we got settled in, we heard someone yelling outside and car doors slamming, which continued escalating to the point where I considered calling the police. We live in the city, and are pretty used to noises/people and random confrontations, but this was c-r-a-z-y. My husband and I were peeking out the window (because who wouldn't?) and were pretty sure that one of the individuals involved looked very similar to the woman who checked us in, assumingly the owner. The other party appeared to be a taxi cab driver, and a couple of other rough looking men. It looked like the owner(?) was yelling at the taxi cab driver and one other man, one man decided to book it and walk down the street, and one of the other men went to go get a baseball bat to attack the cab driver or the cab (not sure what the intentions were there). Wow. The police showed up a little while later (we didn't call, I think the cab driver did) and de-escalated the situation for what felt like hours. We hardly felt safe and/or were worried about our vehicles, so we didn't sleep well. The next morning we woke up and checked out... but the office was closed. We dropped our keys in the drop-box then continued on our way. We stopped to get gas at a nearby gas station and noticed a taxi cab that looked exactly like the one that was in the parking lot the night before. My husband struck up a conversation with him to see if it was the same cab driver from last night, and let me tell you... it sure was. After hearing his side of the story, and seeing what we did from the window in the hotel room, I will NOT be staying there again. Just unbelievable!
