We've been coming here for years. Well appointed, charming living room, lovely yard/beach, Large rooms, small rooms, all well fitted out. We come most summers, in August.The staff is friendly and helpful, the rates are typical for the area. The private beach is a marvelous asset.

Astounded not already on Trip Advisor

Sunset MT Lodge is a collection of cottages on over 30 acres of property across route 8 from Brant Lake. The property also owns about 100 ft of lake front which they've used for a beach and a number of docks. Behind the beach, before you get to the road there is a few acres of lawn which can be used for throwing ball or just sitting and chatting, or watching your kids. There's also a playground and shuffleboard courts. The lodge also provides kayaks, a canoe and a paddle boat for guests. The owner took us for an hour ride around the lake on his pontoon boat. We stayed in a cottage with 2 bedrooms, a family room, a kitchen and also a side room. There were plenty of beds and sofas. The bathroom had a combo bath/shower. There were many windows which we could open and helped bring in the breeze and cool the place down. There is an air conditioning unit but we didn't use it. There weren't any bugs in the place and it was clean. Some of the mugs that the resort provides were not so clean but we brought our own paper plates and utensils. There was also a deck with a grill which we used and which worked well. Just bring your own aluminum foil. It was very convenient to walk from the cottage to the beach, just a minute or two. This cottage had a view of the water too. The community is nice with a mix of weekend of weekly guests and some who lease their property on an annual basis. The owners come around frequently to make sure everything is good. We had cable in our room but no wifi. The owner said they were working on getting wifi.

Laid back, easy stay with good amenities

I attended the Brant Lake Camp 100th year reunion and opted to stay in a "hotel" vs. a camp bunk. Being right down the street from the camp, this seemed reasonable. I think in retrospect, the bunk would have been better. The Sunset Mountain Lodge is old, run down and deplorably uninhabitable. I stayed in the main hotel although there are cabins on the property. I hope those are better than the rooms in the hotel. No air conditioning, no TV no food, no breakfast. In fact not much of anything other than an old mattress and mildewed furniture.

A bare bones places to stay.

Owners haven’t  updated furnishings in 30 yrs. place is dirty and run down. All they care about is the cash. Beds are ancient . Bedding is drab and washed in cold water. No sanitation. Pillows old and need replacing. Carpeting is disgusting.

Dirty and Run Down

Pros: location was good for what we needed to do that weekend.

Cons: when booking a room you will stay in the main " lodge"where walls are paper thin and you feel like you are in a murder movie. No one was around for us to check in and it was very eerie and we didn't even know if we were in the right place. Fast forward 30 mins later it's like a party in the place. Not only were we inconvenienced all night by those coming in and out as it is incredibly loud but we were subjected to a couple above us having a disturbing time during the night from 1-3am and could hear everything and creeping if floors and could not sleep (obviously). Also strange that no credit card is accepted so you are forced to pay hundreds of dollars in cash there must be some under the table no tax action going on. The man that owns the place was also very weird and made us really uncomfortable. He was waiting for us to come out of our room in the morning to pay, not sure how long he was waiting for but we felt very awkward.  Room was also really old and not clean, floors were dirty and had large red stains. We felt uncomfortable the entire time and did not get any sleep. Needless to say we will not be back here or recommending this place to anyone. I'm sure the cottages are nice but it is not evident what the set up is when you book a room.
