Rooms are great with their own lanai to sit on and enjoy the quiet and view while sipping a drink or just reading.
Or a game of Scrabble.
Rooms all have a large bathroom, mini-fridge, microwave and sink.
Complete with full set of dishes, etc.
Everything you might think you would need is there. Including bathrobes.
3 cottages  above the main building that has 3 connected units.
All are spacious living areas.
The main area has a large fridge and stove for more in depth cooking.
You can keep your own food items in the fridge with most condiments you require there already.
Plenty of local eggs for your enjoyment, also. Not to mention some of the local fruit trees for the picking.
We enjoyed the quiet atmosphere here.  
Drive into Hilo is not that bad but best to buy your food items before you come and save yourself the drive later.
Coffee makers, kettles, toasters, etc., are all there.  Pots and pans in the main kitchen plus a large dinning area for bigger groups.
Rooms have a small table with 2 chairs that will meet most people's needs.
No small children here.

great quiet stay

Top drawer experience at Mahana House Country Inn.  Stayed at one of 3 cottages and found it impeccably finished and provided with everything needed for a comfortable stay.  The view from the large lanai was amazing and was especially delightful at sunrise.  The cottages feature an open plan with the bed and kitchen enjoying views out to the lanai and the ocean in the distance.  The large Sleep Number bed with firmness individually adjustable for each side was so good we're now considering one for our home.  The proprietor provided clear instructions on check in/out, usage and recommendations for shopping and dining.  The location is great for a relaxing get-away, but shopping and dining are about 25 minutes away by car in Hilo.  The expansive grounds include a large lawn and fruit orchard and a band of friendly cats who may stop by to say hello and troll for pets.  No worries if you're not a cat person, they won't impose themselves.  Laundry facilities, large communal living space and kitchen in the main building a short walk from the cottages.

Lovely retreat on the Hamakua Coast with incredible views, fresh longan and friendly cats.

Such an incredible sanctuary with the most incredible owners and all the comforts you could need. The ocean view king rooms are incredible and so are the cottages. I always have the best time here. The cats that live on property are the most adorable and the landscape and farm is amazing. I am so grateful for Mahana house!

Best of the big island

The Cottage we booked for our 4 night stay was spacious, private, clean and comfortable beyond our expectations. Each of the three Cottages boasts an efficiency kitchen space with mini fridge/freezer, tableware, cooking in utensils a toaster and coffee/tea makers. We made use of the fresh daily produce offered from the property that included mandarins, mini bananas, avocados, passion fruit, longan, and ginger! The views of the Pacific from the Cottage decks were spectacular (pictured below). We made use of the laundry at the end of our visit and there is a full kitchen and eating/entertainment area for guests use in the main building.
Consider staying at the Mahana House if you want to unwind in a private natural setting on the Big Island!

Secluded Location with Fantastic Views

Randy and Alison have done an amazing job of making a really comfortable country inn. We stayed in one of the cottages, which are new and well-appointed, with a large lanai for relaxing with nice views of the ocean. The rooms have all needed amenities, plus you are in the middle of fruit trees and lush countryside. A very relaxing and peaceful place to stay on the east side of Hawaii.

Wonderful inn, worth a visit.

We loved the peaceful location and our immaculate, spacious cottage.  Our only complaint was all the clutter in the common areas, which made them feel dirty and chaotic.  Remove the clutter in the living and laundry rooms and there would be nothing but accolades for this lovely place.

Would love to return

Highly recommend this place for a stay! We loved every minute of our vacation here. Randy was extremely helpful and prompt to any and all questions. Rooms were modern and very clean. The property common space has any and all things needed for guests to borrow during their stay (beach chairs, coolers, ice packs, etc.). Plus fresh fruit every morning from the property! Book a cottage if available. They are all ocean view with a wonderful balcony. Location was perfect for those who plan to grocery shop vs eating out for all meals as it’s not super close to restaurants. Hilo is about 20 mins down the road. We felt so relaxed and at home here during our stay— we hope to get to go back soon!

Highly recommend!!

We absolutely loved our stay here! The suite is so comfortable and quiet. The common areas offer a lot of flexibility to prepare meals and hang out. The property is beautiful. And the cats!! The friendliest kitties I've ever met! A fabulous place to disconnect and just relax.

Peaceful and relaxing

We stayed in Room 2 from 23-26 September.  The location is ideal, with a beautiful view of the ocean and sunrise.  The room was expertly appointed with all of the necessities needed for a stay, plus a fantastic common room with full kitchen, stocked full-size refrigerator and comfortable common area with couches and lounges and a laundry.  Randy, the owner, was immediately responsive to any needs and extremely helpful with dining and travel recommendations.  The resident cats are respectful and well behaved.  

As an aside, one of my hobbies is birding.  If you are a birder, I highly recommend wandering the property, to include the road in the orchard.  I picked up ten new Life Birds just wandering around the property, and on the road below it.

This place is a gem, and I highly, highly recommend it for a comfortable, relaxing stay.

Serenity Now!

My friend and I stayed at Mahana House for three nights while exploring the Hilo side of Hawaii, and we're so happy we did! The inn was small with only a few other people staying there, and the rooms were spacious, clean, and bright. At night you can hear the sounds of the rain forest which is such a peaceful, special experience. Randy and Alison were helpful and kind, and kept the kitchen well stocked with plenty of coffee, milk, eggs, bread, ice, and other basic items. It was the perfect place to return to after a long day exploring Volcanoes National Park or other local parks, and equally great for a lazy morning to sip coffee on the lanai. We highly recommend this for anyone looking for a quiet, relaxing stay in the Hilo area!
