Read reviews before coming, particularly about why you would go to Hallock and left with many reasons to return.  The Caribou Inn is a small hotel in a small town.  The owner was kind, engaging and made sure our accommodations were acceptable.  The room was freshly cleaned by a friendly staff member.  After enjoying pizza and trivia night at the local brewery, the CaribouInn offered exactly what we needed a place to rest. In the morning, the staff person was also very friendly. I saw a review that no one was available, that was not our experience, the owner and the two staff people we met we attentive and friendly.  It didn’t take long to feel welcome in Hallock and the CaribouInn only added to that experience.

Hallock Northwestern Charm

The Hotel itself needs repair and updated. Was there for the Beet Harvest. The Hostess was absolutely superb. Mud was a common daily thing for a month and very hard to remove from all steps. The Hostess barely slept in the month time we were there trying to accommodate us all. This person needs a raise and some help next year when we are there. I give her five plus stars and the Hotel 3.

Budget Inn Beet Harvest.

Stayed here for a week, recently, the couple that manage it are quite weird, not very friendly and possibly on drugs. There's never anyone at front desk, they're also hard to get ahold of on phone, even though they live in the hotel near front entrance. Into small town gossip and spreading rumors about people, like I care?! After 4 days, I asked her to clean my room, never happened that day or my entire stay and there were few people staying there! Had to get my own towels and trash bags from the utility room they left door wide open, some doors to unoccupied rooms are left wide open with lights and bath fan on. Lazy, strange people and disrespectful.. Some young kid who parks by the dumpster and lives on second floor smokes pot all the time. Hallway smells like drugs. Condition of hotel is going downhill. Very dated and deteriorating. This was a terrible experience, overall. Customer service absolutely sucked, like this town in the middle of nowhere of 900 people! NEVER AGAIN. Do not stay here! Twilight Zone meets Breaking Bad experience! 👎 🤮🤢🤬👀🤡💩

Terrible experience overall!

I have stayed at this hotel for work many times over the past 8-10 years but had not been there since 2019.  

This hotel is under new ownership and it’s pretty sad to see how much things have deteriorated. 

After standing in the lobby for 10 minutes and ringing the front desk bell several times, an individual in ratty clothes and bare feet finally decided to check us in. 

The rooms have a musty smell and there are holes in the wall where items were removed but never repaired properly.  The fridge was barely cold.  The chair in the room was simply disgusting and full of stains. The carpets need cleaning real bad.

Breakfast was non existent (even though they advertise a complimentary breakfast). Just some cold coffee probably from the day before. I’m thinking these new owners don’t roll out of bed until 11:00am.

It’s unfortunate. The prior owners did a great job of keeping this hotel clean and staying on top of things. 

I’ll never stay here again. I’ll drive a little further and stay at a hotel in Grand Forks, ND instead.

Going Downhill Fast

Hallock was such a fun small town that it was a real disappointment that the hotel was so disgusting!  Started with the owner checking us in barefoot and in shorts and dirty tee-shirt.  Carpet was crunchy and hadn't been cleaned.  Walls were dirty and room smelled musty.  Bath towel was threadbare and had a hole in it.  Continental breakfast was advertised but nothing was offered...not even coffee.  Thank goodness there is a really nice coffee shop a block away.  There is also a great brewery, wine bar, decor shop and a amazing distillery that was so much fun!  
Stay far away from the hotel but if you can find somewhere else close to stay it is well worth it to enjoy the rest of the town & the people who make you feel so welcome.

Disgusting

Rooms bright, clean, nicely appointed. Bed firm but comfy. Owners friendly and Accommodating.  I’d give it a five but the breakfast is sufficient but nothing special, might be different in summer when more people are staying there.

Great place to stay in Hallock

No one was at the front desk.  When we called from the front desk, it was answered by a rude man.  He acted like we interrupted him from a very important meeting.  He rudely asked our names and how long was our stay. "License and Credit Card. Room ###.  Breakfast is in the other room."  

The carpets were horrendous.  The bathroom had mildew on edges of the tub, toilet and fixtures.  A soap dispenser detached from the wall when I pressed it for hand soap. And, sorry to mention this, but pubic hair on the curtain and around the tub.  I mentioned this to the manager.  He said it was clean, but he'll come back when we leave to clean it.

I asked for more towels, since they were very small, even for my 13 year old son.  The manager wasn't too happy when I asked.  He said "there are only two of you."  And I said, "yes, and I need more towels and an extra blanket."  He brought them up 15 minutes later.  

Room service was just taking the blankets and covering the bed.  No fresh towels.  The towel that is made to place on the bathroom floor was left there.

Read the other reviews. Then decide.  

I wish I did before booking.

Just as previous guests have mentioned - RUDE, DIRTY and LIMITED "BREAKFAST"

We interrupted the owner/managers walk when we arrived. He was rather “all business” and asked us if it was for 1 night several times.

The room was very good, clean and spacious. We had a good nights sleep. However, for a $100.00 we expected more than sugared cereal Sunny D drink and bread for breakfast. It’s a good thing we had left overs from yesterday to eat.

Good room - poor breakfast

The hotel was clean and comfortable, and quiet.  I only issue was the breakfast was very basic. With it being such a small town I needed to leave early for work and having a full breakfast with hot choices would have helped out. 

Nice place

Took the long way to Roseau through Hallock. We wanted to check out Revelation Brewery and to our surprise the were celebrating their one year anniversary. The hotel was clean and reasonably priced. Very limited breakfast.
