CONS: If you don't mind being talked down to for a 40 minute orientation of the do's and don't of property and steep stairs up to your small bedroom and small bathroom with a second bedroom across the hall. Breakfast consisting of a loaf of bread, jelly and coffee. Then you may be ok with this B & B.
PROS: On hill overlooking Hermann, walking distance to Stone Hill Winery.  Outside deck with table and chairs. Very clean floor to ceiling, bathroom small but clean, towels nice big and clean, bed sheets clean.  So grab a bottle or two from Stone Hill Winery go back to the deck and watch the sunset and later the stars you haven't seen in a long time

This place was amazing!  It was welcoming, comfortable and very clean.  The two bedrooms are upstairs, but we didn’t see the other guests the entire time.  The deck has a picturesque view and is a great way to start your day or relax in the evening.  
We visited several wineries during our trip. Stone Hill winery was our favorite and just down the street, an easy walk away and the vineyard can be viewed from Jim’s deck. 
We traveled six hours to get here and Jim stayed up until midnight to show us his lovely home and make sure we were comfortable.  Just a few short hours later, there was freshly baked bread waiting for us at breakfast.  
A great place to stay and we will definitely book again.  If you stay, please tell Jim hello from the Brown’s from Kansas.

Clean, comfortable, convenient, and an amazing host! You won’t regret staying here!

Not as advertised. No views from the room.  Double bed, not queen  bed, No  breakfast except for bread and jelly.  At age 75 we could not WALK to town.  Look around and under the bed, dead spiders, nasty and not been vacuumed. Filthy air filter. Complete rip off. This guy is a smooth talker. I really thought he was a nice guy,but when I showed him pictures of the filth he only scampered upstairs to vacuum. I know people will continue to fall for these misleading pictures. This was supposed to be our honeymoon and instead it left  me just sick.  He could have at least offered a one day refund and we would have packed up,got out of there and said nothing else about it.

Major disappointment

My fiance and I were in town for wedding planning and decided to make it a weekend trip. The house and room were beautiful and comfortable, and Tim was a knowledgable, charismatic, fantastic host. Shared a lot of recommendations for all things Hermann, and being literally a short walk from Stone Hill is a big plus. Highly recommended for anyone, whether you're new to Hermann or planning a return trip.

Spectacular Experience

Stone Hill Overlook online pictures are very deceiving. You see a metal roof from your bedroom. The only view is at the corner of a worn out deck outside. Very small living room and dining room. Only served Bread and Jam. Not what a B&B should be. We were so disappointed that we decided not to stay. Never once offer us refund or a partial one. Too much money for what they give you.

Stone Hill not your normal B&B

Took a short trip over the weekend and thought the property was great. Room was clean and well done. Bed was comfortable. AC is good (a plus for this hot streak we are on) and the room was very quiet.

Location is almost on the Stone Hill property. A quick 2-minute walk to the vineyard and the restaurant. 

People complain about the 'breakfast'. But, if you booked it and ready anything, you knew you were getting bread (excellent) and some jams with OJ and coffee. No issue there.

Only 1 thing - you do have to sit through an 'orientation'. Honestly, other than the particulars of the property, if Jim dropped the local information, it would be great. That is the only thing that kept it from being 5 stars.

Our advice - If someone asks about local info, he should go into it. Otherwise, I'd just recommend giving the room information and then letting everyone be. Part of the fun is exploring on your own and finding out things. What may be great for our taste may not be that of others. 

Otherwise, stay was great.

Great quiet place to stay right near Stone Hill Vineyard

... felt the price charged did not meet expectations for a "true" B&B.  Meager breakfast, not that convenient to downtown Hermann.  Host gave us an extensive orientation to the room... so  much so, that by the time he'd finished, all restaurants had closed for the night.  It is very clean and owner is OK with using the deck for admiring the view/sipping wine, but it does look into his part of the home.  We wished we'd gone with other Hermann options.

Beautiful view, clean furnishings, but...

This property has significantly changed my opinion of small B & B's from negative to overwhelmingly positive. The host, Jim, was simply fantastic. Very warm, sincere, personal welcome and explanation of everything involved. The premises were were spotlessly clean, very updated, warm, and attractive. Very close, 100 yards, from the large Stone Hill Winery and the Vintage Restaurant. Every aspect of this B & B had a personal touch that enhanced each element. Bathrooms and lighting are state of the art modern. ( even the toilet seat needed a demonstration). Free off street parking is provided on contiguous paved area. Authentic continental breakfast was a "blast from the past" and extremely tasty. We were able to fully relax, chat, read and enjoy the splendid solitude. Quite intentionally, no television, but there is wifi present. Even though I had a bit of TV withdrawl, all else easily trumped that , The views from any of the three back decks were most enjoyable. Our new place for a historic German / wine country / any reason getaway.

Truly a wonderful. intimate B & B experience......

We spent a few days in Hermann, just for a relaxing getaway in wine country. I booked the Stone Hill Overlook based on the location...and we loved it! 

Location: This property is two houses down from Stone Hill Winery and the vintage restaurant (the Hermann Trolley picks up there, too!). It's on one of the highest streets in Herman, and the view not only includes Stone Hill's vineyards, but a some of the town and countless rolling hills...but none of the traffic There are four decks on which to sit, and we sat out on our favorite one every night and gazed at the moon. 

Common Area: The home is gorgeous, inside and out. There is private parking, and a spacious common area that is shared by the guests in only two rooms. It includes a great seating area with comfy leather furniture and a fireplace. The dining area has a large picture window and a kitchenette with a refrigerator (with a real freezer), and sink. It was spotless and inviting.

Bedroom: We had the North Room, and I was amazed at the modern yet comfortable style. The bathroom is large, and the fixtures are more modern than any I've seen. The bedroom is huge - with a seating area, and lots of floor space. The view from the North room is of Stone Hill's vineyard hill, and hills leading down into town. 

General: I can't say enough nice things about the owner! He made sure the room was ready when we arrived, and met us as soon as we pulled in. He gave a brief - and entertaining - overview of the property, including how to work all of the modern things! He was very friendly, and proud of his property. He had a map available, and asked if we wanted additional recommendations - which we happily took. We are walkers, and he mapped out a very nice walk through the best overlooks all the way down to town. 

Breakfast: He makes homemade bread every night, and has it waiting when we came downstairs along with orange juice, coffee, tea, and a variety of jams. He even leaves a ziploc bag so we could take our leftover bread to the wineries with us. It was a pefect breakfast. 

Overall: Five stars -- and we will definitely be back!
