A superb place to enjoy a meal sitting under the stately oaks. The pet friendly outside dining area is great to enjoy the atmosphere of Highlands while enjoying the delicious food prepared in their awesome kitchen.

Relaxing and Refreshing 

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Main Street Inn!  The owners, Keith and Debbie, are always around and making sure their guests have an A+ experience.  (They also manage the attached restaurant...absolutely delicious, btw)  The location is smack-dab in the middle of EVERYTHING and the rooms themselves are clean and the beds are comfortable, with all white linens and a few period antiques.  As another reviewer mentioned, some of the rooms are on the smaller size but remember, this is an authentic  mansion from back in the day where all the rooms are of various sizes.  If you are looking for space and uniformity, then more of a chain hotel is maybe what you are looking for.  But, if you like charm and a fantastic feel of hospitality and comfort, what are you waiting for??  Book it here!

Lovely Inn, lovelier owners!

The food and service has always been exceptional. We enjoyed our quality meal, friendly service and relaxed atmosphere. We have been visiting this place for many years and will continue to do so! The owners always make it a point to speak and our server Ashley was fantastic! Definitely a place to try if you're ever in Highlands. 

Top notch cocktails & food

Main Street Inn was so thoroughly enjoyable, I extended my four night stay by another four nights and my husband joined me! The proprietors and staff are exceedingly helpful and the rooms are charming. Their in house restaurant, Bistro at Main Street Inn, is delicious. With prior approval they are also dog friendly. As the name indicates they are right on the Main Street in Highlands. Park your vehicle in their private lot and then walk to most destinations. We loved it (including the dog)! From now on this is our Highlands destination.

Outstanding! 

If you are looking for a bit of history, this Inn is the place for you.  It has been very well taken care of .  The rooms are small but you don't really notice it because of the quaintness of the entire house.  Everyone was super helpful.  The Chef was amazing.  WE were trying to decide where to eat dinner and because of heavy rain, we decided to stay there and eat.  What a terrific choice.  The appetizers were fantastic and the main course was cooked to perfection.  I can't even describe the desserts.  WE had a party of 10 so we shared 4 desserts and they were ALL wonderful.  A neat place to stay.  A bit pricey but everything in Highlands is, so it was fine.  No elevator so if stairs are an issue, ask for room 1 or 2.

Great Experience

Main Street Inn is THE PLACE to stay if you want the quintessential Highlands, North Carolina experience. Keith and the staff go above and beyond to make you comfortable and meet your every need. The rooms are all unique and very clean with excellent amenities to make your stay even better. One of the best parts about the service, is when you call, you're actually speaking to a real person that works there - not a hired service. Keith and the staff really make your stay special and easy - I highly suggest The Main Street Inn in Highlands, NC!

Vacation and Work Trip

Although the result, many months from now, will be beautiful...We weren't told the main house is completely gutted and off limits - being renovated after changing hands a few months ago.  The "guest house" is a building behind the parking lot.  Eight individual rooms with small bathrooms, hardwood floors and not much room for moving about.  The parking lot is furnished with a large dumpster (so your balcony overlooks a dumpster and a gutted inn).  Barn swallows are roosting over the balcony, so there's bird dirt on the balcony.  There is no coffee, water or ice available - no amenities at all.  Our bathtub backed up and then belched up a black cloud.  After the backed-up plumbing experience, we cancelled our second night and moved to a lovely historic inn up the street, with a serene garden out back, a front porch and balcony overlooking Main Street, and rates $30-70 less!

Beware - the main inn is gutted and there are no amenities, Guest House rooms are small and basic

Very disappointed. The rooms are uncomfortably small and dated. Limited parking and the food was mediocre. The highlands is a great place to visit but do yourself a favor and stay someplace other than the highlands

Stay someplace else

The main inn was closed for renovations, so we stayed in the “guesthouse” in a tiny room with a small balcony overlooking the construction dumpster.  The Railings on the stairs to our room were very dirty and the window ledge in the bathroom had black mold.  There were outlets near the bed for my husbands c-pap machine and we had to string together extension cords across the room.  I called the manager about the outlet problem, but she did not return my call.  I emailed her photos of the mold in bathroom and the dirty handrails that needed to be washed.  She sent a response that she would tell the housekeeper about the mold and said the handrails were going to be replaced.  The linens were nice.  Window style  a/c was very old and noisy and too large for the tiny room.  We finally raised the window in the bathroom and turned the air off.  This  2 star hotel room was $175 per night plus taxes.  I had seen good reviews of this hotel on trip advisor, but later noticed that the good reviews were old reviews.
