We really enjoyed our unit, very spacious, well maintained (for its age) well appointed and comfortable. The bedroom was quite and the bed was very comfortable. The wifi fast and stable while in the condo and it was available in the pool area.  

Excellent 

We needed a break from daily life and used our RCI Points and booked a 3 bedroom 3 bath condo here at Southwind II on Hilton Head.  The Weather didn't cooperate, but the rest of the nation had worse weather.  Our Unit 2117 was spacious, very clean and extremely accommodating.  With 2 Master Bedrooms both having King Size beds with on-suite bathrooms on the main floor, and a 3rd bedroom upstairs with twin beds, we were very comfortable all week.  Sadly the weather didn't allow us to use the bikes, but they were there if we wanted to.

   If I had a suggestion for anyone...know this particular unit  has a dozen or so steps to get to the front door.  The Unit I booked though RCI (#2150) was a different unit, with a photo that depicted only 4 steps to the door.  My 75yr old Sister and Brother in law had a little difficulty with all the steps (they survived though) but when I invited them, I sent them what I thought would be our unit and convinced them that "it's only a few steps" to get in......well, it wasn't.  But it worked out because by no fault of anyone's, it rained all week so we didn't go out often. Hauling our weeks worth of "stuff" up 3 sets of steps...well, it was what it was..I'll know better next time.    Plenty of pots and pans, but if you have a favorite I would certainly bring it.  Also if you're one who washes your clothes before you repack, bring a few laundry pods - for the FULL SIZE washer and dryer...that was a nice surprise. There's bar soap. No shampoo or anything because this isn't a "hotel"... it's a TimeShare.  (Dollar General is just up the road..as are many other places to get toiletries or whatever you didn't bring..) 

   Also know most of the units in the Shipyard Gated Community are NOT on the beach...Hilton Head is a GOLF COURSE Island...you'll be on a GOLF COURSE, not THE BEACH...but there's a TON of Bike Paths to get around, or you could just drive to the Development's Beach Club.....but if you look at the Map of the location, you'd easily see these condos are NOT on the beach....(I don't know why people don't do their Homework before they book a location...especally with things like, Google Maps..Helloooo!)    We were across the parking lot from the pool/hot tub and a BBQ Gas Grill, but we didn't use them...wish we could have. 

    We were asked upon check in to go to one of the sales pitches, (We own 2 different TimeShares and are not in the market for another one) and told the Check-In staff that...but the pressure was on to book a time... We did, but honestly, you know you're not "out in 40 minutes"  so we cancelled...although their offer of $100 gift card and $250 credit for another stay was hard to turn down....

My ONLY gripe is when I called "prior to our arrival" as the Email/Text messages stated (Didn't say how long "Prior" - just "Prior"), I called 3 hours "prior" as we were driving and on our way.  "Tina" answered at the number we were given and I got 'reamed' for not calling sooner...that they had send 3 emails and left 2 phone messages To my Husband's Email address and his Phone Number.  She went On and On about how we were to have called DAYS ago because ( and I quite)  "WE  have to have things in order because Saturday is a very busy Check-In Day, that's why we ask that you call prior...we left message after message and got no reply.."   "Ok" I said "SO I'm calling now...3 hours before we arrive, is there a problem?"  "Tina" Continued "WE needed to give you Covid Protocol information prior to your arrival..DO NOT get out of your vehicle when you arrive, we will come out to you.. WE can see you..DO NOT get out and come in"   I asked "Is that why you needed us to call DAYS earlier?"  She continued "We need a Credit Card number to have on File..what card do you want to use..we won't charge it, it's just for "incidentals".  (I didn't argue with her, I gave her a number..4 Adults over 55 sure weren't going to have a crazy party).  I asked "Soo, is this all you needed?"  "Tina" advised me it was.    The tone and the attitude didn't need to be...Upon check in, there was NO ONE else in the parking lot but us.  There weren't lines of people waiting to check in.  It wasn't a Life Saving situation, and it was all handled within less than 4 minutes on a phone call.  But the "attitude" I got for not calling prior didn't need to be.  We later found that the Emails went to my husband's SPAM folder, and he doesn't answer phone calls from numbers he doesn't recognize...It really wasn't the end of the world.

All in all...we had a good week.  But Corporate - Work on dialing down the attitude of your employees... In a Year where the Hospitality industry is suffering, be happy people are booking and using your resorts..

More than we anticipated!

Stayed the week in January 2021 at southwind villas in Spinnaker at shipyard....
Front desk Vanessa was an extremely knowledgeable and helpful person to start my vacation week.. my wife and daughters so much enjoyed the amenities of shipyard and the private beach access..
The two bikes that came with the villa were so much fun and I have great way to get around the complex .. the villas were well maintained and cared for..
I would highly recommend Spinnaker at shipyard for family vacations or just getting away from home..

Five star vacation

First rate facility at a great location. The Southwind facilities by Spinnaker are well maintained. They are spacious with all the current amenities. Shipyard plantation is one of the oldest and finest sites on Hilton Haed. It is convenient to the beach, golf and dinning establishment. You will not go wrong with Spinnaker and Southwind.

Back on Hilton Head

My family spent a week at the Southwind Resort in November 2019.  We loved every aspect of the villa.  It was a three bedroom with plenty of space for us to spread out.  Having a full kitchen and laundry made it easy to travel with two 10 year olds.  The pool was convinently  located in our area and my kids took advantage of it.  Walking distance to a basketball net and playground.

The service we received from Spinnaker Resorts was amazing.  We had a sick child and needed extra bedding.  When we called they were very quick to respond and support us.  They called back to ensure our child was okay.

What we enjoyed the most is that we were a quick bike ride to the beach.  Having access to two complimentary bikes were a welcome treat.  

You won't regret booking this location.

Wonderful location for families

Southwind by Spinnaker is secluded and quite, providing great relaxation.  It is also just minutes away from water sports, golf, and great eating.  (There must be a couple of hundred restaurants on Hilton Head Island.)  We've been returning for years.  Spinnaker also has several other fine resorts on the island, each has its own attributes.

A great place to relax or play

I stayed at this resort for 5 days and I have to say that my stay was wonderful. The rooms were clean the sheets smelled fresh bathroom was spotless and pools and hot tub was amazing. Staff was very helpful and the price was inexpensive. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to stay at a nice place close to beach that isn’t gonna hurt your pockets.

Great hotel

We visited Southwind for Thanksgiving week of 2023. The check-in building is the main Spinnaker building which is 2 miles away from the actually rental unit. The people at the front desk were incredibly nice and helpful with telling us how to navigate to our resort.

Southwind is located in a large area called Shipyard. It is a gated area that you will have a parking pass to get into and if you ride bikes, there is a daily code that you use at the gate to get through. There is a golf course that is beautiful and tons of biking/walking paths.

When we arrived at our unit, there was ample parking. You have 1 assigned space and/or you can park in unmarked spaces. Our unit had steps entering into it; steps to go up once you’re inside; and steps inside the unit to get to the second floor (that has a bedroom with 2 twins beds and it’s on bathroom). I believe the unit is approximately 1500 sq Ft but I swear it felt even bigger (especially with the vaulted ceiling). The rooms were large and the bathrooms were a good size. The kitchen was well-equipped and was also a nice size. There were TVs in every room, as well as the living room. 

The deck overlooked the golf course and was surrounded with beautiful trees. It was large and had a table with 4 chairs. I would drink coffee every morning and watch the golfers go by.

The decor was definitely not modern but I also wouldn’t call it overly dated either. Having a full size washer and dryer was wonderful to have, but be sure to bring extra detergent- they only provided 2 loads worth. Unlike “normal” hotels, you do have a short list of things to do before you check out. I.e. run the dishwasher; turn down the heat; strip the beds; take out the trash; etc. Not a big deal to do any of that, but good to be aware you will have a few things to do before hitting the road to head home. 

A nice perk of the unit is that it comes with 2 adult bikes and a bike lock. Our unit was exactly 0.9 miles from the beach. Most of the path to the beach is a bike path- some of it is through a parking lot. Tons of bike racks at the beach club. You can also drive there and park at the beach club but we chose to bike. 

Each area of Shipyard has its own pool. The Southwind pool is not heated so we did not use it. Supposedly the spinnaker resort Egret has a heated pool and you can use it (it’s a short bike ride away).

There was an activity list given to us at check-in. All of the activities we went to were at the Spinnaker resort, Waterside. This is right by Coligny Plaza. From our unit, it was a 2.1 mile bike ride. Maybelline (the activities director/employee) did an INCREDIBLE job! We played different versions of bingo everyday (music bingo, candy bingo, etc). My kids enjoyed playing Nintendo switch and we did a card game day. They had crafts you could do as well. Maybelline- you made it a GREAT time! Thank you for making bingo so much fun!

After leaving the Waterside resort, you can walk right over the Coligny Plaza to have oyster happy hour at Fish; a wine flight at the Carolina tasting room; and ice cream at the ice cream shoppe. 

We prefer to be ocean front (especially with 3 young kiddos and having to haul all of their beach toys/gear), but at this time of year, we didn’t go to the beach during the day. Instead, it was an easy bike ride there and we would walk the beach for the beautiful sunrises. It was perfect for this time of year. 

Overall, we would come back to Southwind in the late-fall/early spring. As for the 4 star rating, the reasons I did not give it 5 stars are: slightly dated decor; wish it was a closer proximity to the beach; no heated pools for our property; to-do list to check out; and activities for the resort were 2 miles away. Though none of this is a huge deal to us, it was enough things to give it 4 stars instead of 5. But for 4 stars and the great price point, we will give this place a try again in the future.

The location was in south beach are of the Island. Great location and can walk to beach, restaurants, bars or you can rent a bike and enjoy trails all over the island.
We had not visited in over twenty years and loved it all over again.

Great facilities

Staff was very friendly and helpful. Resort was clean with a great pool and hot tub. Two bikes were furnished which was a big plus. Very close to the beach. Walk or ride bikes. Many bike trails to use.
