We booked a room at the Pine woods Resort in Idyllwild ca and this place is closed.  We searched Dog friendly hotels on Trip advisor in Idyllwild and found this place.  It popped up showing "1 room left" so we booked it.  

We drove up to Idyllwild to play in the snow and after a long day we went back to our hotel to find it vacant.  No sign but the address was the address listed online, no cars, no furniture in any of the rooms,  just deserted.  The picture looked similar to the hotel pic online but there were some changes.  Then I noticed the trees and stairs were in the same location as the photo online so we were at the right place but the hotel is no longer in business.  There were a bunch of boxes in front of room #19 where it looked like they were doing something to update the property... Not sure.  We called the phone number listed on the reservation and it said "the magic jack customer you are trying to reach is unavailable".  It was very strange since when we booked it they said 1 room left and all the other rooms were also sold out.  This was VERY inconvenient since every dog friendly location was booked and we would not have driven 100 miles and played in the snow all day if we couldn't stay in town.  We had to scramble to find a hotel and needed ended up driving to Palm Springs 45 minutes away to find a pet friendly hotel.  Needless to say, do not book this hotel.... 

We are now trying to get a refund.  I have included some pics to show you this place is no longer in business or at least is not currently in business as of December 27th, 2016

CLOSED, do NOT book

First time ever disputing or providing a negative review. Not something I ever want to do but we had an unfortunate experience with this business. I made a reservation via Booking.com (which I have used to great success and satisfaction previously). I did make a mistake on the October 2016 dates and quickly canceled. The reservation and cancellation occurred in May 2016. Booking.com sent me an email stating our reservation was canceled free of charge. In June I received a credit card bill with charge from Pine Wood. I called them directly to make inquiry. They were not helpful and could not/would not tell me their cancellation policy (also not on their website). Deposit lost?? I informed them we canceled the room, which they acknowledged. Fast forward to October (date of the original reservation) and we were billed for the full price of the room....which we canceled and they acknowledged  in June.  We did not stay there but were charged anyway. We eventually talked to them in person to no effect. They did nothing to rectify the situation other then tell us they can "make credit card charge but can not make refund". 
Bottom line, I would advise against doing any business with this establishment. They obfuscate and dodge the issue of their cancelation policy.

Be very careful before you book a room here

I have had great luck with Trip Advisor reviews all over the world. Not this time. I admit, since it was a fairly local place and we were only staying one night before picking our daughter up at Idyllwild Art School, I didn't read through more than a few lines of the most recent reviews. My mistake. When we arrived, I kept thinking we must be in the wrong place. Surely I had not paid $230 a night for this down on its luck trailer park look dump. Unfortunately, we were.  I should have realized there was a good reason why it was the only place with a room available when I booked.  I was optimistic when the morning of our arrival the manager emailed me to ask arrival time and if were celebrating anything.  I told her it was our anniversary (it was) and she told me she would have a complimentary bottle of wine and another “surprise” when we arrived.  While that was a nice touch, it in no way over came the grossly disappointing “resort” that awaited us.  The outside was a mess.  There was some green Astroturf carpet rolled out in front, with various mismatched plastic chairs and some broken exercise equipment.  The person in the office barely said 5 words when I checked in, just asked me to sign my CC receipt and gave me the key.  When I walked in the room, I was stunned.  While it was nice they had “upgraded” us to a 2 bedroom, it was dingy, old, stale, and horrid, and I didn’t need the extra room anyway.  It was over 100 degrees that day, and while the hotel advertised AC, it was only in the bedroom.  Did not help in the living area or the bathroom.  Half of the curtain for the only window in the living area, was draped over the sofa.  The rod for it, broken.  Since it was draped that way I can conclude they knew it, but did nothing to fix it before renting the room.  I could go on about the lousy décor, but in interest of brevity, will stick to the completely awful.  The bathroom was gloomy, and there was an already open and used soap in the tub.  There were no wash clothes, but the towels were decent (in no way luxurious).  Not a box of tissue to be found.  Around the trashcan there was scraps that had not made it into the bin.  The bedrooms were all bed, you had to climb in from the bottom.  The sheets on the king bed had holes in them.  There was only a bedspread and a sheet.  No blanket.  As angry as I was, we only were there for about 12 hours, so we decided to stick it out.  Our wine arrived, and our surprise.  The cheese plate was 2 pieces of cheese and 4 crackers.  Yes, it was free, but not special (and I think everyone gets it) hardly a compensation for the dismal quality of a 4+ rated hotel in Trip Advisor.  
As to the great hospitality, perhaps the regulars were on vacation.  None of the things outlined materialized for us (other than the wine & cheese).  Luckily, I then read the low rated reviews.  More than one detailed double charging.  I pulled up my Amex account on my phone, and lo and behold I had been charged twice.  Once a few days before, and then again on check in.  The other reviews claimed they had a hard time getting credit after the fact, so I went to the office at check out to resolve.  At 9:30 am on a weekend it was closed!  A sign referred me to a room across the parking lot. Actually the room number was crossed out, but I decided to try it anyway.  The porch in front of it was cluttered with trash.  The door was open and the room was full of junk and trash!  I knocked and the gal that checked me in who was sitting in front of a room several doors down came over to me.  When I explained I had been double charged she muttered something like, “Oh, I couldn’t find your receipt, so I charged you”.  I walked her to the office and made sure she credited me on the spot.  This is no 3 star property.  Yes, Idyllwild is rustic and old school, and I thought I had adjusted my expectations accordingly.  But this was unacceptable and nowhere near Excellent.  Don’t pay over $100 a night for this place if you have to stay here.  You’ve been warned.

It's a pit, and you could get double charged.

It was my first visit to this intimate hotel.
My cousin was there, and he told me, it was the perfect place to propose ..
I wanted a special place, a supportive team.  My cousin made the reservation.
He told me, that they would take care of everything.
They did.
I Theresa sent me a very welcoming email, asking about what time we would check in, what kind of complimentary wine?
I gave her the details. 
I also told her, that it is a big surprise for my partner. 

They put us in a romantic room, with a fire place. 

A bottle of chilled wine was waiting for us, with a cheese platter. All - not included in the bill.

Nice music, nice people. 
After I proposed, I went out, and looked emotional. 
So now the news was out.
Sara came with a cake with a heart shaped candle.  We were beside ourselves.
Our next door guest introduced himself. He was a mayor of a CA town. He said, he could marry us then and there. 

Other guest congratulated us. The hotel team put romantic tunes. 
We talk group photos, made new friends. 

What a special stay.
And then - the hotel gave us another gift: a free back and shoulders' massage.
We will never forget this weekend.

Needed a vacation.

We had such a romantic stay at the Pine woods Resort, last time, that we decided to try again.
I usually say, that if you have a good dream, why to spoil it by trying again??

Buy I took a chance. We headed there, a group of close friends.

Theresa sent me a welcoming email with my choice of complimentary wine, just asking about the time of our arrival.
I replied, that we would arrive real late, due to our flight: Was there any problem?
She said: "no". The Kal would wait for us as late as it takes. She also gave me her mobile ..
Thanks god, since our flight was delayed. We were not served any food.It was too late to go to any decent place. We called her. 
Kal was waiting for us with a smile. 
A big  cheese platter, fresh bread, and fruit was waiting for us at the big room. Of-course - a bottle of wine. How thought full of them!

We indulged in the bath tub, used their bath salts, watch TV until we fell asleep.
The next morning, we were delighted to find out that we could have a neck & shoulders massage. Boy, did I need it!! I took 15 minutes, and then asked for more and more ..When I told the guy, about the delayed flight - they surprised me again, and comped the 3rd session. COOL!

Our friends were resting at the new hammock.  They looked so peaceful.

We headed to the pergola, to watch a game on the outside TV.  Next to me was an Ambassador of a big European country! We ordered pizza, and became friends. 

Who would have thought?
Then - a couple showed up from another room with a yummy cake with candles. It was her birthday. The hotel surprised them with a cake and wine, and they offered to share with us. She was a doctor. Nice couple.

Great atmosphere. Such classy hosts.
