TimberCreek B&B is an idyllic nook in the Illinois heartland. Country chic charm everywhere you look. The caretaking of the grounds and housekeeping are impeccable.  If you appreciate the understated ambience of classic Americana: calm, nature, order, structure, serenity, cleanliness, manners, meticulous  stewardship of property indoor and out, attention to detail and the hospitality of a capable, unintrusive host, you will not be disappointed with a stay at TimberCreek. I particularly loved the patio fireplace, manicured, level walking trails and the absence of televisions.

 Country chic charm

Beautiful and Peaceful bed and breakfast.  The room we had included a fireplace, whirlpool tub, and big double bed.  Beautiful setting around the B & B with a creek that runs nearby (we could walk to it and see it from our bedroom).  The proprietor Jim is a nice guy and made us a delicious breakfast on Sunday.  The website says continental breakfast on Sunday, but Jim made us an egg casserole, english muffins, jam and fresh strawberries.  Great for a peaceful weekend and spending some together time with your significant other.

Great B & B

This was our first time at Timber Creek, but we want to come back! The Black Canopy suite was excellent, and the breakfast (juice, fresh fruit, scrumptious casserole, English muffin with fresh strawberry preserves) was outstanding. One of the best B&B experiences we have had!

Relaxing stay at Timber Creek

I booked a Friday overnight stay for me and my wife for her birthday. Four days before we were to check in the owner, Jim, contacted me and asked if we could checkout at 9am, 2 1/2 hrs early. His explanation was that we were to be the only ones staying that night and he wanted to rebook a pastor's retreat for that weekend. He offered no apology, and no compensation. I'm still unclear as to what those extra 2 1/2 hours would've given him, as check in time is 3:30pm. When I explained the visit was for my wife's birthday and that I did not want to force her to wake up early the next morning and that, no, we would like the full stay for which we would be paying, I was met with silence.

The day we were to arrive Jim emailed me to inform me he wouldn't be there to greet us, but gave me the keycode to the office to let myself in. When we arrived the drive was covered in ice and there was a van double parked in the two check-in spots. We had to park in an event parking lot farther down and I had to duck-walk back in the falling snow, on the ice and snow covered drive, to get to the check in office. I fell on the ice at least once getting to the office. Maybe the owners could not double park their own vehicles outside of the office and force guests to walk?

My wife and I loved the property. It is on a beautiful spot of land, the building is well designed  and maintained, and our room was extremely nice. We enjoyed our evening.

The next morning I went down for breakfast (my wife was not hungry and wanted to stay in bed). Our breakfasts were in the oven staying warm. I started some toast and made up some hot drinks for me and my wife. I took her drink up to her. When I came back down Jim was there, in his stocking feet, finishing breakfast preparations. I attempted some small talk and was greeted with silence. Jim served my food and then went outside to shovel the walk. I uncomfortably ate quickly and then went back to our room.

When my wife and I left later that morning Jim was downstairs. My wife apologized for not coming to breakfast - explaining that she had preferred to sleep in. Jim, without saying a word, turned his back on her and walked out of the room - leaving me and my wife standing there in shock at his lack of etiquette.

The property is outstanding. The owner is not suited to be a host, at all. If you are expecting a B&B stay with gracious hosts who are welcoming and courteous do consider other properties.

Beautiful Property, Rude Host

Have stayed numerous times for both single and multiple night stays. Not a single complaint, always pleased with cleanliness, dining and facility.

Any extremely bad reviews are likely to me made by reviewers taking issue with owner political or religious views rather than as a guest.

Based on some comments, it's clear some have never been a guest.

highly recommended after many stays

Do not stay here. 

My wife and I had a horrible experience at TimberCreek for our wedding. I could write a short novel on how many things went wrong but will only share a few. Please contact me with any questions and I will share more as well as will provide video footage (and other evidence) to support what I'm about to say. Also, be sure to look at the reviews that are not recommended. There are some shocking stories there that will sound very familiar to this one. 

Pros - TimberCreek's employee, Connie, is wonderful. I am astonished that she still works there. The owner legitimately had her crying with how he treated us and her. 

Cons - I'll only mention two...

1) When we were having our rehearsal ceremony the night before the wedding, the owner (Jim Walder) decided to mow the lawn right next to us. Then as we were heading to our cars, he decided to mow around our cars. There were 4 kids trying to get into their car as he was mowing around them. One of which, my niece, was running to the car and it looked like he didn't see her and was going to run right into her. My sister ran out in front to stop him and he stopped for a moment - but then he gave us a smirk and continued driving his lawnmower with the blade-side inches away from my niece's feet. My sister was in tears as she and her husband were telling their kids to immediately get in the car.

This event occurred after numerous instances where we were harassed and blamed for being the most disrespectful family he's ever had to deal with. He sent some ridiculous emails to my fiance (the bride) days before the wedding which included personal attacks on our family. This was obviously an act of aggression and there were many eye-witnesses who saw this take place. As we left, he then continued to mow the other side of the lawn which was far from where the rehearsal took place. It was clear he could've started there and gone to our location once we left.

2) The owner refused to let me check into the rooms (which was paid for in full). We had booked all the rooms. My dad tried to check in, however, the owner kicked him out and locked the doors to the Bed and Breakfast because he apparently didn't like his attitude. I went in to talk with the owner to see if I could smooth things over but he started rudely telling me that I better have a different attitude than my dad's or I was not going to be allowed into the rooms. He was shaking and spoke very inarticulately - clear signs of instability. It turned out he was mad that we had amended the contract many months prior to the wedding. We only wanted to stay there one night instead of two, so we amended the contract and the price and we (including Jim) signed it at the time it was amended. There was no reason for there to be any trouble. I deal with contracts in my professional field all the time and this is a very normal occurrence. 

I then asked him about his attitude because he was blindly making accusations about my character, as well as my dad's, without me having done anything to show disrespect or unprofessionalism in any way. He was about to not fulfill his contractual obligations due to our apparent "bad attitude" and him being mad we chose not to pay extra in order to stay another night. He proceeded to tell me to leave and locked me out as well. My fiance and the bridesmaids were in there with a clearly unstable man locked inside alone with them. I had no reception so I could not call my fiance to warn her. Luckily, I was eventually able to call 911. 

Once I hung up, Jim opened the front door and at this point, my groomsmen came to help. I then went up to him and told him he was contractually obligated to let us get in our rooms since we paid for all of it. There were only three hours until the wedding. He told me he'd let me in if he saw an attitude change so I asked him what he meant by that. I was wondering what specific actions he was looking for to show my attitude had "changed". I then asked if the contract mentioned any specific attitudes we needed to have in which he replied, "the attitude is the contract!" Everything I said just seemed to infuriate him.

I realized I had two options - (1) pretend to be in the wrong and apologize in hopes it satisfies him or (2) reschedule the wedding and lose the $7,000 we paid. Luckily, my best man smooth-talked our way into the Bed and Breakfast so we could finally shower and get ready for the ceremony. I talked with the cop once he arrived and told him all was well (because the owner was walking right next to me). 

We had to bow down to the owner's delusions in order for him to fulfill his contractual obligations. Again, this was hours before the ceremony. I've worked with many venues in my professional career and have dealt with some hard business owners but trust me - this is as bad as it gets.

Do not stay here!

We called to advise that we would be a late check-in. Clear instructions were given on how to get in and the long, scenic driveway was well-lit. We stayed in the Spring Meadow Suite which was small and had very little surface space to put things. There was only one night stand and no desk, dresser or table. Unfortunately, the Spring Meadow Suite is right by the area for congregating before breakfast so we were awoken by voices only a few feet away having a loud conversation. Breakfast was very good but for my personal taste, very sweet. We enjoyed walking around the beautiful grounds and Connie was very pleasant.

Satisfactory 

If your travels take you near central IL or IN  .... or if you live there or in Chicagoland and need a peaceful getaway .... we highly recommend TimberCreek.   Even in mid-January we enjoyed the beauty of the woods and countryside with the long, wooded lane to enter the property and the rushing creek within view of our room.  
The quality of the facility is fantastic.  We stayed in the Rose Garden suite and enjoyed the large tub, fireplace and the great architecture and attention to detail.   TimberCreek is incredibly well maintained, clean and comfortable.  
We'd return for the breakfast alone.   Connie is a wonderful host and her home-cooked breakfast and baked goods are wonderful.   
We loved our experience and will be back for sure.
