Stayed in the Diamond Bessie Suite. This room has a bedroom with a very romantic canopy bed.  A second room has a TV, day bed, several chairs, coffee maker and mini-fridge overlooking the courtyard.  The room was clean, comfortable and quiet.  Bathroom has a full size shower.  Had the breakfast both Saturday and Sunday, its a bargain!  Served in a lovely room overlooking the courtyard with fresh orange juice, fruit cocktail with poppyseed dressing, ham steak, grits, scrambled eggs, biscuits and the special orange blossom muffins.  If you have a food allergy, let the front desk know and they will be happy to accomodate.

The Excelsior House Continues to Excel!

This place was so cool! It was like sleeping in a piece of Texas history. The staff was super helpful and the rooms were very clean and organized. The balcony over looking the courtyard and fountain made doe some great pictures. We didn't hear any ghosts but that's okay! Had a great night's sleep and highly recommend!

Texas History!

I love this hotel.  I have stayed in the Hayes room three times and Diamond Bessie Suite once.  I have another room to try this March. The staff is always great.  The rooms are beautiful. If it had an elevator, it would be perfect. Easy access to the Miata Madness in Jefferson yearly.


Love it, every year.

This was my second visit in 20 years and nothing had changed. It was perfect, honestly it’s like stepping back in time. The staff is terrific and great to chat with. This time stayed in the Diamond Bessie Suite which has a second room that opens onto the courtyard. Highly recommended.

Stay here!

Great stay. Enjoyed the room and tub. Antique furniture was great.  Early check in was a plus. Not many other people there. Almost had the place to ourselves. Only negative was no breakfast on labor day.

Labor day trip

Stayed in the Hayes Room.  Lovely room with romantic canopy bed.  Breakfast is a bargain with fruit, fresh orange juice, ham, scambled eggs, the best grits in the universe and the famous orange blossom muffins and biscuits.  But the real jewels of the Excelsior House are the staff.  Every one provided excellent service but Zina at the front desk went above and beyond to ensure our experience was great.  Looking forward to staying here again.

Great hotel and 5 star service 

We had a very pleasant stay in Rm 215. The staff was amazing.  David was there upon arrival and Lena was there at ck out. My daughter did not realize she left her jacket in the room. Lena called us after we left. She was so kind and made arrangements to have the jacket mailed to us. All of the staff really went the extra mile.  The hotel is absolutely beautiful and the history is well preserved. Thanks for a relaxing weekend .

Exceptional

The Lady Bird room is spacious, has a fireplace and intricate antique furniture.  Its furnishings are also about and from Lady Bird.  I like the canopied bed, cherubs lamp and elaborate wood carvings of the night stand’s base.  My favorite furniture is the orange chair!   
I cannot rate it 5 for the following reasons:
- Two of the morning staff were not friendly and didn’t even ask if everything was all right with our stay;
- No complimentary breakfast;
- No complimentary water, coffee, tea in the room;
- No refrigerator and microwave in the room;
- They charge you when you book the room.
If I did not marvel at the historical room, I’d rate this a 2!

Spacious, charming Lady Bird room

This was our first time to stay on the second floor of this hotel.  The stairs are just treacherous.  If we return we will only stay on the first floor.  In the past breakfast was included with your stay, now it is $13.00, so you miss the bed & breakfast experience.
The beds were comfortable, but the bath needs some updates.  Wallpaper was coming off the walls and the shower was an unlighted cave.

We stayed in the Lady Bird Room, and liked the authentic memorabilia  associated with her (letters, photos, painting, clock).  The room was large, the bed was nice, and the remote controlled heater was convenient.  However, the bathroom was small and the Victorian-Style furniture was the right size for children and not suitable for a 70+ man with bad knees.  The chairs did not feel stable and the couch was low to the ground.  Our room was on the 2nd floor, and when David (desk clerk) saw me hobbling with a cane  with a big duffle bag, he promptly offered held.  Thanks David.  We loved the location and the historic nature of the hotel.  The Jay Gould railroad car across the street was an added treat
