We booked in advance but arrived in KC at 2am and just needed a place to sleep. Despite having called that morning to confirm the reservation for a single room with two beds for four people, the second shift person called us at 6 PM to say that they no longer had a room with two beds and only had one room with a king bed. We angrily complained and the woman said, “This happens all the time.” When we informed her that they had already charged our credit card, she said, “Well since you booked through a third party, you’ll have to get a refund through them. Hours on the road dulled our normal ability to read warning signs, and before we could complain further, she said, “Tell you what, I will give you two rooms for the price of one. Warning sign #2 came when she said, I will go and clean the second room myself. We agreed and continued on. As I said we arrived at 2am in the rain and since leaving at 8am just needed a place to sleep. We should have slept in the car.

 This hotel is the dirtiest most dilapidated hotel in which I have ever had the misfortune to stay. THEIR PICTURES ARE NOTHING BUT FANTASY! There is garbage strewn in stairwells and all over the grounds. Our rooms had exposed wires and a hole in the wall. One of the two rooms had an extra door lock that don’t work, nasty uncleaned microwaves, and AC units with broken housings. Unwashed linens in supposedly cleaned rooms. No toilet paper and no toilet paper holder. Metal banisters pulled away from the walls. The smell of marijuana permeates the halls and in some of the rooms. In-room TV was covered with smears and hand prints. We complained to the night desk clerk who admittedly was very nice herself and she apologized and got us replacement bedding (we used our own pillows). 

By the light of day, the grounds looked even worse. We high-tailed it out of there and wanted to leave this review as a warning to others to observe the warning signs in advance of a visit, listen to that little voice in your head when you hear it, and to stay away from the HomeTowne Studios by Red Roof in Kansas City, Mo

Worst Place We Have EVER Stayed

Booked through Expedia. When we arrived, we were told we had no rooms and Expedia had screwed up our reservation. Had to find a new place to stay. Front office was no help at all. The parking lot was almost empty at 7 pm. I guess everybody was arriving late that day.

Don't Book Through Expedia!

After driving 8 hours to attend a family funeral for a multi-day stay, we arrive at hotel and the desk clerk "regretted to inform us they could not honor the reservation" since no one had come to work that day to do housekeeping.  No advance notice, no offer to rebook us somewhere else, no solution to their poor management.  About 5 minutes after we attempted to check and and were turned away on our reservation, I received an email cancelling our reservation.  It was subjected, "We will miss you".  We were lucky to book a perfectly acceptable room at the last minute at the Quality Inn on the Kansas side for nearly the same price, which included free hot breakfasts for the entire family.  This was the second reservation that Red Roof/Hometowne Studio cancelled the day of check-in.

This frequent traveller and loyalty program member will never book with Red Roof again.  I do, however, recommend the Quality Inn Convention Center on the Kansas side.  (And they take pets, too!)

"We regret to inform you that..."

My son and I stayed here one night after a trip to Worlds of Fun. The room smelled of cigarette smoke, but worse, it had extensive damage, including to the locking mechanisms on the door. The bathroom counter had cigarette burns, the dresser had a broken door, and there were holes in the shower and bathroom doors. The stairwell landings were filled with garbage, and there were cigarette butts all over the balconies, stairways, and other common areas. When I tried to contact the office to see about another room, nobody answered the phone or was at the front desk. Give this one a pass.

Dirty, damaged rooms and garbage everywhere

Very slow check-in, dirty place,   credit card deposit required (not to me for one night), one room changed cause too dirty and with toilet flush broken, second room smelly, no WiFi connection... what's more? Stay far from this place, you can easily find something better around.  One of the worst deal of my US journey!

One of the worst deal

Walked into my room the television was already on and only one pillow on my bed. Went to set my stuff down on the bed and noticed a huge burn spot on the wall and night stand. Looked on the other side of the bed and there was a broken outlet  cover. 
When I called the front desk about getting another pillow she asked if I had towels, good thing, because there was no towels. When I returned I noticed the light in the light stand was tinted red. It was a painted red halogen bulb from a floodlight in the socket. 

Definitely did not feel very safe. 

2 stars because the lady at the front desk was extremely helpful and apologetic.

Fire Hazard

Ok... well I signed into this location the middle of June.. and at first things there were fine.
With the exception of crappy dispositions and attitudes from some of the employees . 
....... after being there for a month I started noticing more and more drama... fights...and  police being called 
Management there seems to play "Favorites" with guests and employees.... and 2 specific front desk clerks do the same ... but also have HORRIBLE dispositions. 
              Residents AND STAFF do not mind or hesitate to start problems or join in on  them. 
               ...... .......

           Staff wont hesitate to thrw accusations to and about you be cause of her say. 
Staff (including managemtnt) also wont hesitate to cuss at you... or threaten you... or call you out of your name
     All in all.... all I can say about this location is if you enjoy extra curricular party favors... or Drama... or if you like to gossip .... then this  IS THE PLACE FOR GOU . 
.... because you don't have to leek very far to find some of everything

Every day there is some drama going on

We checked in on Monday, November 16, 2020. When we arrived in our room, there was a putrid sewage aroma permeating the room the shower and towels had hair and scum on both. We dealt with it. We used the remaining clean towels. On Thursday, November 19th, at 6pm we requested new towels and were denied! Immediately after, we attempted to use hot water but to no avail! We notified the office who has still not responded with a resolution. Most uncomfortable stay I have ever experienced! We not only will never stay at another Red Roof associated property, but we certainly won't recommend this place to anyone! If zero was an optional rating, this place would take the cake.

Worst Lodging Experience EVER

Don't come to this hotel. I checked into my hotel on May 3,2020 the first room I moved into had water dripping into the room from the rain & on top of that we had no hot water in that room so I ask to be moved into another room. The next problem is that after being here for about 3 or 4 day I called the office for some clean towels but I was told that I can only get clean towels after I've been here for 7 day which I thought was nasty so I seen one of the employees outside & I talk to her about it & she bring me some clean towels. So on the 7th day I call down to the office to get some clean sheets & was asked how long have you been here i told her today is my 7th day & I was told that I needed to wash my own sheets or wait until Wednesday to get clean sheets. On Wednesday I will have been here for 10days & that is very nasty.  My husband is a electrician that work on nasty job sites & he need clean towels every day. Now with the sheets I don't work for your hotel so I don't feel like I should have to take my money & wash your sheets or towels..... Very bad hotel & they want 450 a week for a double room

Very Bad Services

I’ve been staying in hometown studio since April and I’ve haven’t had any problems with being here, Cardia she works front desk and she has been a huge help with anything I need, if I need help in my room she would send up maintenance ASAP. If I need help with getting use to the points or questions she is a huge help. She does a great job on being there. I appreciate her. And what she does.
