I found this place on a B&B site, but that was misleading.  I choose B&B's for the personal interaction and fabulous breakfasts.  I found neither of these there.  There is no breakfast, or any food at all.  Also, there is no staff.  It is a self-serve hotel.  Very weird. To get in, a code is sent to your email on the day of arrival which you use to get into the house and again into your room.  Location is good, the downstairs common areas are very nice. Our room was small, room decor is blah.

Nice place, weird operation

We were in town for a 17U basketball tournament and the entire team and their families stayed at the Southmoreland. It was perfect for our needs. Very clean and well appointed. Every little detail was noted. Because we booked the entire house, we were able to use the kitchen to cook and feed our crew. Perfect set up. Plenty of room to be together, with the privacy of our comfy rooms when we wanted to get away. Location was ideal.
Emily and Josh were very responsive & helpful for our needs. Highly recommend.

Great stay for a large group

This is a wonderful place to stay! The historical home is charming yet has new amenities including a comfortable bed, cozy fireplace, and enjoyable tub! Everything was clean and cozy.  I would definitely stay here again, 

Wonderful experience

We had a lovely stay here. Came for a king weekend. Room was super cozy, much better then any generic hotel room. Loved the neighborhood, loved the service. Entire place dripping in charm. Highly recommend!!

Absolutely Charming!!

We stayed for five nights over the Christmas holiday and it was decorated so beautifully.  It couldn’t have been more enjoyable! Our room was charming, and the bed was extremely comfortable. The fireplace in the Green room was so cozy in the morning, drinking my coffee that was provided in their dining area. We were able to enjoy the long table in the porch area and had a nice dinner together with eight of our family members.  We highly recommend this Inn and we’ll definitely go again!

Wonderful place to stay!

Tucked in off of Main Street (literally), this quiet inn refreshed us well.   The woodstove added charm and took the chill off of the zero degree outside weather.  This place has charm and character.  It was within walking distance of the the Plaza stores/restaurants and street parking was available. The room was comfy and well apportioned.   Communication from staff was great.  I had a question (prior to arrival) and they returned my call very quickly.   The front door does not have an access code keypad, so you have to go around to the side. 

Overnight trip to KC.

Wonderful location! Very nice and quiet room. It was just perfect for my husband and I who were in town for the Chiefs game. We took an Uber to and back from downtown with no trouble. We walked to the plaza for breakfast on Sunday and it was so nice to be walking distance from such a nice and upscale area.

Quiet, great neighborhood, very nice and cozy room!

Southmoreland is photogenic from every angle!  All of the thoughtful touches and vintage decor, along with the modern convenience, makes this inn my favorite place in Kansas City.  I love supporting local and the fact that this inn is the only locally-owned hotel on the Plaza and supports other local businesses is an extra win.

The cutest hotel in the city!

Southmoreland is lovely and the perfect size and location for a stay near the plaza and art museum.  Every area appears to be thoughtfully done, from the bedrooms to the outdoor sitting areas.  I had been told to expect a wonderful bread for breakfast, but was pleasantly surprised by variety of items from which to choose - scones, bread, overnight oats, fruit, and of course coffee and tea.  It was a great start to each morning, especially as we sat and watched the morning light  come up on the garden.  

It is a lovely place to stay!

Lovely Autumn Stay

My husband and I wanted a quick getaway to KC but didn't want to deal with hotels. I stumbled upon Southmoreland Inn on my search, and I was thrilled! We arrived at checkin time at 4, but it's contactless checkin. We had a code to get into our room and it was flawless! We stayed Monday-Wednesday and we had the whole place to ourselves! (Like whole Inn, not just the Carriage House)

We stayed in the Carriage House, and it was great! One note: We were in the George Kessler Suite, and there is a lot of light in the parking lot outside the window, so the room isn't super dark at night. We ended up getting some sleeping masks (thanks Old Navy Clearance!), because we like it DARK! That made all the difference! The room was great. The breakfast was great! Talia had some extras from the weekend that she gave us, and it was DELISH. She was great, very hospitable, and kind. Everything you want your innkeeper to be!

We spent a little more time in the room due to Covid, We snuggled up and watched some superhero movies. The location is SUPERB. We walked to the Plaza each night to eat, and it's such a nice stroll! We ended up taking a walk and found ourselves in the middle of the Kansas City Art Institute Campus. Very nice area! Parking is a little tight, I assume a large truck would be harder to maneuver in the parking area. We have an SUV that is a mid-size and was perfect.

If you're on the fence about staying here, just do it! We will be back, for sure!
