What a beautiful little property.  These two "casitas" are privately situated on a beautifully landscaped lot featuring outdoor covered seating area and bar b que.  The cottages were incredibly clean and well stocked with everything we required for our stay including well stocked kitchen and beach supplies.  We couldn't have asked for a better location with the beach access trail out the back gate and Kapaa a lovely walk along the beach trail.  This is one of my favorite stays!  Thank you 17 Palms!

Couldn't have been nicer!  I highly recommend this stay.

One bedroom cottage is nice but right behind is a very busy road and parking lot for a resort. Also can hear regularly people talking on the walk path. There are also two large dumpsters for the resort that seem to be constantly taken and replaced.  

Very noisy

I stayed in the 2 bedroom cottage - loved every minute!  Waking up to birds singing and chickens crowing was the best!  I miss it so much!  Ross and Jeff were wonderful.  They made sure you had everything you needed and were always so pleasant.  The gardens around the cottage are beautiful.  I felt staying in Kapaa was the best location on the island.  It was easy to get to all destinations on the island.  I cannot wait to go back.

Paradise

Jeff and Ross are extremely professional and take good care their clients with all aspects of the trip. It is obvious they have been doing this a long time! The reservation details, driving directions, all the logistics to support ease with arrival to fun and valuable things to do in the area. That attention to detail translates to how the cottage is kept and maintained. The cottage was fresh with a home like atmosphere and clean clean clean! I have a high standard for this type of thing and they met/exceeded that standard. The kitchen was very well stocked with all the right gear to make fabulous meals, but not overdone with things you don't need. The house was well appointed with beauty in island style and again not overdone- such great taste they have! The area is nice and very close to a beautiful beach- 2 minute walk and you are at the water. There is a nice manmade "baby pool" via lava rocks at the end of the beach as well as a nice adult place to swim/bob/wave play that has some protection. 
It does not have a beach view, but you would be paying triple the cost if it did so would be unaffordable for most- it's 2 minute walk to see the sunrise/sunset. Moreover, it is peaceful and quiet... All the loud action was at the waters edge so you can go there and participate, then go back to the cottage for a restful sleep. I will definitely go back to 17 Palms when I travel to Kauai! I give 17 Palms a 10 in service and product!

We stayed at 17 Palms for 4 days and enjoyed our stay. The cottage was beautifully decorated and had every amenity we needed. Examples: Cooler with ice packs, extra aloe vera (yes, we needed it!) and beach gear. We felt 100% comfortable staying here. We loved the front porch where we hung out in the morning and evening and appreciated the proximity to the beach!

Some suggestions for improvement are to have a quieter AC and have AC in both main rooms. We didn't use it a lot, but when we needed it, we needed it! The AC unit in the bedroom is older and very loud. Example of a quiet one is here. One set of blinds in the bedroom needs mending. We were surprised by the ants and cockroaches - but, that may come with the territory on Kauai (we've not experienced it on other islands).

Overall, we had a great time and would recommend the 17 Palms.

Nice, Quiet, Warm

Four years ago, my then 10-year-old daughter and I enjoyed an absolutely lovely stay at 17 Palms. We were delighted to finally get the opportunity to return with my husband, who’d unfortunately been unable to join us for our prior stay due to work.

As noted in my June 27, 2015 review -- “Perfect base, and incredibly helpful owner!!” -- the location is excellent, the Meli Meli cottage spacious yet cozy, and the proprietors quickly responsive and so helpful. 

It was a pleasure relaxing in our cottage with all its nice amenities including comfy beds, kitchen, seating and dining areas, well placed reading lights, plush bath towels and beach towels to borrow, fresh fruit and chocolate offerings from the owners, etc. 

We also really appreciated having so many shops and eateries within easy walking distance. Some we enjoyed were the vegan Eat Healthy Cafe, the Passion Bakery Cafe, and the Island Country Market at the Coconut Marketplace. We returned more than one for beachside dinner and live music at the Lava Lava Beach Club. 

NOTE: These accommodations have no air conditioning. I respect the owners more green choice of relying on ceiling fans and natural breezes, but no AC may be a dealbreaker for some. Also, the sounds of the bullfrogs (toads?) was pretty loud. We tried closing the windows but could still hear their mating (?) calls.

All in all, 17 Palms is truly a home away from home and I’d be glad to come back again!

I have stayed at 17 Palms twice and will continue to stay there when I am on Kauai.  Jeff and Ross are great hosts and I highly recommend their cottage.  Perfect location and just steps to the beach and short drive from the airport.

A belated review (our stay was over Thanksgiving 2019) for the wonderful experience we had at Jeff and Ross' Meli Meli at 17 Palms. 
 
I feel so lucky that my husband and I were able to spend our 30th Wedding Anniversary at such a special place.  From the moment we made the reservation, Jeff and Ross were so helpful and willing to make our stay the best it can be.

We were greeted with local fruit, vegetables and flowers from their bountiful garden.  Everything was unique to Hawaii/Kauai and absolutely delicious!

The cottage was so comfortable and every amenity you need was there. We visited some of the farmers markets and cooked a lot of meals using local produce. Walking to Imua coffee was a daily ritual for not only great coffee, but chai and flaky and delicious pastries. 

Meli Meli is definitely a slice of paradise.  Couldn't have asked for a more perfect place for a special occasion.

Perfect Stay at Meli Meli

We spent our honeymoon in Kauai and it was the first time either of us had visited any of the Hawaiian islands.  A colleague of mine recommended 17 Palms to us as he and his husband had stayed there before and loved it.  We were so grateful for his recommendation!  

We loved everything about 17 Palms.  It was the perfect launching pad (location-wise) for all of our adventures around the garden paradise that is Kauai.  Located on the east side of the island, we found it easy to drive down South to visit the beaches of Poipu or out west to see Waimea Canyon and for our Na Pali boat tour.  It is within walking distance as well of a grocery store, great restaurants and the beach.  It was so nice after a long day of adventures to park the car at "home" and then to walk out for happy hour, dinner and a late night walk on the beach.

The cottage itself has everything one might need.  It is clear that Jeff and Ross put so much thought into making sure guests have it all for their vacation.  From a french press and a drip coffee maker, to a washer/dryer, clothes rack, boogie board, beach chairs, a full kitchen - everything was there when we needed it.  The bed was very comfortable, the cottage was very clean and the shower was wonderfully relaxing.  The cottage is tucked away on a dead end street - so it's nice and quiet - yet close to all of the amenities you might want or need - as well as allowing for quick access to the main road around the island.

We would definitely stay at 17 Palms again!!

Home away from home in paradise

Jeff/Ross's place was amazing! The cottage was exactly as described and their attention to detail made us feel welcomed and enhanced our time in Kauai. 

The house is around a 10 minute walk to the beach, shopping and restaurants. However, the house was set back on a side street, away from the most of the action. The in-unit washer and dryer was clutch, as we were nearing the end of a multi-city vacation. In addition, they provided everything we needed for the beach--chairs, umbrellas, towels, etc, so we did not have to purchase or rent our own. 

To top it off, I left my charger back in Hawaii, and Jeff and Ross went out of their way to mail it back to me on the East Coast! Thank you again, Jeff and Ross for your hospitality, and we hope to stay at your place again if we come back to Kauai.
