This place is absolutely top-notch. I have never been to a hotel that provides such incredible, personable service.

We stayed here for our honeymoon during COVID just about a year ago and had the best time, where we had to go back during a weekend away. Due to an incoming storm, we decided to come up a day early. Unfortunately, our room we planned on staying in was booked for this additional night; however, the team put us in a great room next door. We even arrived with a personalized note welcoming us back. It's really the day of the storm service that blew us away. They let us know that we could stay in the room we stayed at for just a night for however long we needed until our other room would be ready. They even were providing restaurant recommendations for us and even TEXTED to say what was open and that they would be on the lookout for a particular restaurant we were interested in. Lastly, and what is above and beyond, they offered to shovel off our cars.

I love this place and will always come back. No service has ever compared to here and is worth the price/experience.

Absolutely Top-Notch

My daughter and I just returned from an overnight at the William Jefferds House. Like all the other Lark Hotels, it did not disappoint! The hotel is immaculate, beautifully decorated with tone on tone creams, and the feel is cozy, plush elegance. The staff was wonderful and they  even brushed off the guests cars after several inches of snow fell overnight. My photos aren’t retouched! Our king studio suite on the 3rd floor was deluxe!

Plush Wintery Haven

Will cut some slack to the new ownership due to covid conditions, so an average rating.  We are long time visitors to KB and the TCJ Inn. We are also well traveled. Granted, the rooms and their bathrooms  needed a facelift to accommodate modern amenities. But the common areas of the the Inn have been completely stripped of the New England/Kennebunkport charm for which travelers visit. The decor is ridiculous. Perfectly appropriate in South Beach, NYC, LA.  But here in  New England for Fall, Prelude, Summer...so not so much.  They’ve ruined a wonderful gathering room that had beautiful high end wicker furniture, refreshments, and assorted amenities...perfect for reading, socializing, or just hanging out. It was lovely and quite perfect. Now, it’s strictly dedicated to eating, I think?  Plexiglass table tops appropriate for ordering a drink in a night club...just classless. In the past we looked forward upon returning to the Inn to sitting around the live fire, having a cocktail or hot chocolate or whatever and chatting it up before retiring. Well, here it was Prelude, you know, Christmas and all, and we get back at 7:30 pm and we’re informed we had to let the fire die, because staff had to leave for the day. I mean, you may want  to consider providing some coverage to some reasonably later time, so your patrons can have some fun. The common room with the gas fireplace, which had been a lovely dining room has been transformed into two long rows of facing chairs separated by a long table covered in tacky fake floral arrangements. It has all the ambiance of a waiting room in a Beverly Hills dentist office. I understand wanting to appeal to a younger monied crowd, but I suspect even those folks make the decision to go to a place like Kennebunkport ME, for a very different type of ambience than that presented by the new look Captain Jefferds. And all this at Miami Beach prices as well.  I understand that covid has imposed serious hardship on all businesses. We’re prepared for those limits. However, your pricing should consider that you can’t deliver the level of service guests expect as well.  Believe it or not, there’s much more to say (like having to go to a different inn to get a hot breakfast) but I’ll stop. On the plus side, the staff was very pleasant and accommodating.  Folks doing their jobs under trying circumstances.

Disappointing Prelude Visit

Currently staying at the Captain Jefferd’s Inn. Our 3 day getaway here in Kennebunkport is nothing shy of a Hallmark Holiday Special. 
We were hoping to say that about the Captain Jefferd’s   Inn. 
This is our 3rd night here and no real complaints but can’t  say anything has been over the top… 
Most people working here have been very nice but our last night here I had been less than expected. 
The hotel requires masks in public spaces which we understand and have complied. On our way our tonight,  our masks were in our pockets in error and we were rudely approached by Tye night manager and we’re told to put the masks On. She walked away muttering under her breathe. Totally rude!! As people were coming in with masks on they were treated poorly for some reason as well.
Our suite is minimal especially for the price paid.  Deep bath tub and no bath products. 
Should have gone with my gut instinct and book at the White Barn Inn!, we’ve. Had a few Sure it’s more money but you certainly get what you pay  service ,attentive staff, cordial,  welcoming. A top shelf experience. Just a meal alone at the White Barn tells you that you’re in for a treat!

I was excited to see how Lark Hotels had transformed this group of inns in Kennebunkport. I’d visited a few of them previously and they were in need of updating. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with the results. I found the decor to be less charming than other Lark Hotels I’ve visited previously. Breakfast, never a Lark strength, was mediocre and seating was in a too-crowded living room area without really comfortable seats and felt rushed. They provide free bikes and I was looking forward to riding around town but, unfortunately, all the bikes were in terrible condition. For over $500 a night, I expected more. The pros are it is clean, modern, spacious but the rest is a bit lacking.

Just ok.

We stayed at the William Jefferds House the first week of October and absolutely loved it. We were in a large suite on the third floor with a huge bathroom that included a soaking tub. It was heaven to use the tub at night and turn on the fireplace that you could see in the bathroom and living area. Our king size bed was super comfy. There are four different buildings to choose from and we liked the light and bright decor of this building. We were able to have breakfast items from the Captain Lord Mansion and the breakfast room at our building. There was a large selection of coffee, tea, juice, fruit, baked goods etc for breakfast as well as drinks all day long.  As with all historic buildings, note that rooms on 2nd or 3rd floors require climbing stairs so those with mobility issues should call to book appropriate rooms. 
The Inn is so convenient to walking to all the shops and restaurants in Kennebunkport and also getting to Parson's Way which means you don't have to find parking in town when it's busy. Kennebunkport is a really special town and the William Jefferds House is a perfect place to stay and enjoy all it has to offer. Service was also wonderful. I highly recommend staying here for a romantic getaway.

Fabulous Stay!

What a great stay! The Captain's Collection is a group of four houses, easy walking distance to the center of Kennebunkport where all the fun is. The William Jefferds Inn is a favorite (so far I've stayed in this building and the James Fairfield House). We stayed on the second floor in a corner room. It was too warm to use the fireplace but I can see it would be a lovely touch in the Fall/Winter. The rooms are styled in a fun, stylish way but the antique character/details are still there. Lots of easy parking on site. The breakfast room downstairs is always stocked with drink options for guest use all day and fresh cookies in the afternoon. The communal lounge rooms are super nice. This building is my favorite, light airy, fun.

A favorite spot to stay in Kennebunkport

Well appointed but overly decorated trying for chic but actually uncomfortable.  Here for a wedding.  Booked the room with soaking tub but no hot water available for bath.  Sink leaking.  No front desk number.  Urgent request number seems to be a cell phone telling caller to leave a message.  No return call.  Self serve breakfast and no other food service.  No bar service.  At  $457 a night, far less than you would expect. Quaint and a fine choice if half the price.

Overpriced for what it is

This has the feel of a modern, upscale hotel that just happens to be inside the skeleton of an old, historic house. We spent time at three bed and breakfasts in Maine and William Jefferds was the most expensive and the one we liked the LEAST. There just wasn't any warmth or personal attention. Our room was clean and modern, but completely stripped of any charm. Breakfast was delicious, but is a self-service buffet rather than a seated meal like other B&B's. Staff was helpful, but you had to search them out. After a beautiful week in Maine, we were disappointed. If we wanted a hotel, we would have booked a hotel.

More hotel than bed and breakfast

Staying at the Jefferds House is like staying at a the comfortable and well appointed home of a friend and less like a hotel. The property has a large and very pretty garden with places to relax, lots of inside areas to sit and have tea or coffee w/ their delicious home made cookies.  Coffee, tea, water and some light snacks are available all day in the breakfast room.  The rooms are all different and true to the photos on the website; great bathrooms and toiletries.  Breakfast was extensive, well prepared and tasty.  Last but not least, the staff is very kind, helpful, and accomodating.  Special shout out to Donna who was sweet, friendly, and had a ton of local tips.
