Stayed in unit 2A
PROS: Very clean, small gift basket w coffee and mac nut clusters, kitchen cooking supplies well stocked, bed and fold out sofa ok, good communication w Vacasa prior to check in, 3 large beach towels supplied, 5 minute walk to park w excellent beach for kids, very quiet the whole time we were there, grounds well kept, large pool (unheated). price very competitive, small strip mall just across the road w good little family owned eateries. 
CONS: This whole complex is dated. Our unit had several windows that did not open or close completely, furniture worn; access to bedroom only through bathroom-ie if someone was using bathroom you couldn't get into bedroom, pool not heated so on cold days we still did not want to use the pool, (complex nextdoor had 2 heated pools),  no beach chairs supplied, beach in front of complex was too rocky for little kids so had to walk to beach down the road
Overall just OK, biggest plus was the cleanliness, but would prob not opt to stay in this unit again.

Clean but just average

We loved Maui Sands! Great beach front location, walkable to an ABC store, restaurants and food trucks. The condo itself was very nice and the grounds were beautifully kept. The only down side was that the parking spots were VERY tight. You're given an assigned spot and ours happened to be right across from some parking poles that made it impossible to swing out to get in our spot. If the other two spots beside us were full it was next to impossible to get into, so we had to park on the street a couple of nights. I will say, we noticed this seems to be the case in all of the Lahaina, Maui area, not just this condo. And, many of the spots were much more accessible than our particular spot because of its angle. Even with the stressful parking situation, we loved the condo and would stay again!

Their booking dates are a mess and cancellation statement is inaccurate. Through VRBO Chase 'N Rainbows, I tried to book a week in Nov 2022, once I clicked submit with my card info, I got an error page that said my dates are not available. So I presumed I did not get the reservation. But upon checking my bank statement- I was charged. So I did more reading on this company- appears they've had history of duplicate booking and having to cancel someone last minute....not something I want to deal with weeks before travel! So I opened my email where it said I had the condo reserved, but clicked to cancel it. Although when I tried to book this it said 100% cancellation refund, they are not giving me 100% refund. I only book with places that offer 100% refund otherwise would have never tried this place. FYI that this company has multiple issues, best not to bother booking with them.  Also- interesting reading about complaints on BBB. They are not BBB accredited, but compare their F rating to other companies before you book!!

Don't book Maui Sands 5G through Chase 'N Rainbows

Maui Sands (52 units) and Maui Sands Seaside (20 uniits) are separate properties, although they are adjacent. They do not shar amenities, but there do share ocean access. It is important to note that all condos are individually owned, and what is true for one condo is not necessarily true for another.
I lived at Seaside for over 15 years.Not all units are vacation rentals, there are several that are occupied by permanent residents.

Our normal digs were not available so we thought we'd give this place a try. Many of the condo complexes along this stretch of the West Maui coastline were built at approximately the same time. The unit that we stayed in had been recently refreshed and it was very comfortable with many nice appointments. Just steps away from the pool in one direction and the beach in the opposite direction. Two BBQs were directly below us and the parking was right there was well. Good location for nearby beaches and close to Lahaina.

First Time Here

We stayed in 4A Which was right on the water. Condo was well appointed with everything you need for a beach vacation. However these people clearly do not want to rent to anybody. Every contact we had with the owner was met with a very disappointing response. The hundred different sticky notes all over the walls on things you can’t touch or do was like staying at your aunt Edna’s house where you can’t do anything. Instructions on where to not put your feet or allow your children to walk were insulting. Trust the other reviews where they say the other guests are smoking pot. Not a good location to take a family.

Don’t do it

My family of 5 stayed at the Maui Sands for 2 weeks.  We had a 2 bedroom unit for the first week and then 2 1-bedroom units for the second week because the company we booked through couldn't get us a 2 bedroom for 2 consecutive weeks. 
 
I would never stay here again.  

Unit 1B (2 bedroom):
Pros: bed was decently comfortable, had spices in cabinet, boogie boards.
Cons:  the residents to the side of us let their baby SCREAM for over 3 hours from midnight to 3 a.m.  He started to scream again another night but thankfully that only lasted an hour or so.  
The people above us let their kids run around like wild maniacs and it was so loud...like little elephants running around upstairs.  
Another neighbor smoked pot.  A lot.  So we'd open the door for some fresh air and then have to close it because that is definitely not the fresh air we were looking for.
The a/c sucks...it barely cools the living room.  No a/c in the bedrooms.  So you have to sleep with the windows open and you get to hear allll the street noise.  And people in the area apparently REALLY like their subwoofers and loud cars.
The bedrooms are along the front walkway so everyone can look right in at you while you're sleeping.  Yuck.  And even with the windows closed you can still hear so much noise.  

Unit 3M (1 bedroom):
pros:  slightly quieter than 1B and no screaming/rampant children above us or next to us.  
beach chairs and an umbrella in the closet, plus 1 broken boogie board
Cons:
Needs to be updated.  A glob of glue on the sliding bathroom door, outdated kitchen, etc.  Not a big deal though.
The a/c problem again.  But in the bedroom the fan had one setting - high.  So your choices were to sleep under a wind tunnel or listen to the noise outside. 
Again - very classy neighbors.  We were startled awake by a couple having a fight.  Yelling, cussing, and then she almost ran the guy over before she peeled out of the parking lot.  Nice.
Thankfully there were actually a couple quiet nights and we finally got some sleep!  But the bed in this unit was terrible.

1G (1 bedroom)
This unit was nicely updated, had a comfortable bed
No boogie boards or beach chairs, 
Loud street noises (surprise, surprise)
Next door to the kids that were above us and they were still noisy.

As for the condo complex, the grounds were nice.  There's a nice spot to sit and watch the ocean as the sun set or to go play in the water but it's not much of a beach.  We opted to go to better beaches and never explored this one.  There's a small pool.
It costs $3.25 to wash and dry one load of laundry.

Never again...noisy neighbors, pot smokers, outdated, loud, uncomfortable

We have coming to Maui Sands for the last seven years. This year we stayed unit 6E for Jan 15 to present. We booked this unit because it was listed as non smoking.  We have discovered as least three other units in which the owners allow smoking.  We have had to endure as continuous stream of second smoke from cigarettes and marijuana. Because of this we have unable to sit on the patio and stay inside the unit with all the doors and window closed.
We have contacted the rental company of our concerns.
If you are non smoker I would you to reconsider your choice.

Non Smokers Beware

Hidden Gem...first appearance for units is " a bit tired and not shiny-new like the surrounding condos.  That said...we loved it...feel more at home vs guest in these units.  We had a 2 bedroom unit...just a skip from the waterfront...with a stunning ocean view from our lanai (2nd Story).  It had all the amenities and we loved it.

Personally, I think the amenities were oversold. The unit was updated, but the furniture was old. Carpet was dirty and there were feathers from the sofa all over the floor.

The A/C unit was a wall unit that cooled only the living area and was loud enough to interfere with TV watching. Windows had to be opened for air flow in the bedroom. Could have been our fault for not doing our homework on the August Maui weather, but we had a hard time spending a lot of time in the room since it was so hot. We actually debated finding a hotel because our unit was so hot during the day.

The service we booked through showed no availability other than July or August and charged us a peak season premium. I find it hard to believe it was peak season, when all we heard from people we talked to was about whale watching, which is best December to February.

Of course Maui is surrounded by amazing beaches but one of their "beach access" points was gated off and the only other access to the beach was down some stairs surrounded by huge rocks which prevented safe foot access to any neighboring beaches.

It was our first trip to Maui. We should have been in paradise, but I think our choice of "resort" put a damper on this trip for us.
