This was our second visit to this resort and we were not disappointment.  This is a well kept, lovely place to stay while visiting Maui.  Even though Maui was going thru a difficult time after the fires in Lahaina the people were welcoming and kind.  They are a very strong and compassionate group of people and we loved being on their island.  It was worth every dime.

Will return here often

We rented and Air BnB unit 117 @ Polynesian Shores for 10 nites, but only got to use it for a few nites, because our refer went out. It never got direct sun, but still had an awesome view. This kept it quite cool and comfortable. But you needed to have all the windows open to ensure that the breeze did its job. Since the bedroom was so close to the road, the noise could be quite a problem for all the units in the center section (units 111-118, 211-218) of the complex. You had the option of turning the bedroom fan on high, and shutting the bedroom windows, which eliminated the noise, but the fan was not working properly. When we told Bree and Jordana about the refer and fan, they promptly offered the use of another Condo's refer, and arranged to have the fan repaired. When the repairs could not be done expeditiously, they moved us to another unit, which was larger, and did not charge us for the upgrade. 

We loved the beds, the showers, and little touches, like filtered water container, and the free mid-week cleaning to remedy any possible "red dust" problems. When we moved to unit 202, we missed the privacy of unit 117's lanai, and the "coolness" of its location, but loved how quiet 202 was.

The complex's grounds, hot tub, pool etc, were beautiful and well kept. The BBQ's were in fantastic condition. This is a very quiet complex, with lots of great guests, and exudes a wonderful laid back charm.

Our stay was made all the better by a great host and responsive property manager.


Great laid back complex!

We stayed at this lovely resort for 7 day during the Easter break.  It is a very clean and quiet place to stay.  The pool and hot tub are well maintained. The yard is lovely, green and well maintained.  This area of Maui is still very quiet but is close to all the tourist area and sights.  We found the condo was well stocked with everything we need for our stay and the other visitors were considerate to all.  I would highly recommend this place to anyone who would like a low key visit to Maui.

A quiet, clean, peaceful resort to enjoy in Maui

We booked it via Air B’n’B. Everyone loved the place and location. Great views of the other islands and the sea. There is a small beach (Rocky) with sea turtles and snorkeling opportunities. 
The pool was nice and clean the public BBQ’s were great and spotless.

Definitely would go there again

Nature at its Finest! We come back year after year in February to escape our Canadian winter.  A two storey building facing the ocean providing us with lots of whale sightings and a beautiful pool/hot tub area just steps away. Neither fancy nor luxurious, but the unit we stay in is clean and has a well-equipped kitchen. We don’t love large busy resorts and it’s perfect for us. It’s situated just north of Kaanapali Beach. Lots of our neighbours return at the same time each year and it’s nice to visit with  the same folks year after year. Every morning, one of the permanent residents leads an aqua fit class and although I am usually not an early bird at home in Toronto, I am ready by 8 am every morning, bathing suit on and ready to go. 
There are 3 barbecues for anybody to use. And at sunset, everyone’s outside to share the beautiful shades of pink and peach colours in the sky.

Our Annual Oasis

We were five people staying seven nights and all very happy with this fine condominium resort. Very well equipped kitchen and common BBQ area at the pool. Spacious rooms with nice furniture. Good common laundry. Lovely ocean view from the balcony. Quiet area, no noise from the nearby little airport.

This was my 4th time staying at Polynesian Shores in the last 14 years, and I have to say it wasn't as good as I remember it being. The added hot tub since we were last there is an amazing amenity, but I would not call this complex family-friendly, ruined by two permanent residents. 

One man lives in a bottom unit, somewhere in the 120s, and he was the biggest jerk I have ever encountered in my life. My family had a 14 hour travel day with a 3 hour time difference. We got the kids (12, 9 and 5 years old) to bed at about 10:00 PM, but due to the time change, our youngest was up at 3:00 AM. We kept quiet until 7:00 AM, and then got up and had some breakfast. Our kids were so eager and excited to swim in the pool, but we made them wait until 8:00 until the pool opened. 

After 45 minutes of swimming, the aforementioned man came up to me and my husband and asked us to "keep it down". I smiled and said "I know they're a bit loud, but they are in a pool...they're so excited to be here and swim." He then told me "then maybe you should take them out". I explained to him that we had a 14 hour travel day the day before and they've been up since 3 in the morning, and they just needed to burn some energy off. I was so upset I went over to the pool, closer to my kids, then he kept complaining to my husband, who'd also had enough and told the man off. 

We were so flustered that we removed our exuberant 5 year old out of the pool (which I regret doing) because he was being "too loud". We understand that kids can be loud, be we do our best to not let them be out of control and over the top. THEY ARE KIDS! They literally haven't swam more than once in the last 2 years of the pandemic, all they could have done was swim in that pool in our 10 days spent on Maui and they would have been the happiest kids in the world. 

Luckily that man didn't come up to us at the pool for the rest of our trip, though I always felt on edge if he was outside and the kids were in the pool. He did feel the need to tell our 12 year old to not pass a soccer ball with his new friends because it was "ruining his supper" 

Another permanent resident "tattle taled" on my 13.5 year old nephew to management because he was swimming alone/unsupervised. The rule is under 13 must be supervised, but this lady needs to mind her business, he was quietly swimming and not disturbing anyone. The same lady asked my 9 year old and 7 year old niece if they had a parent with them at the pool, and they pointed at my husband in a chair. GET A LIFE!!

These residents need to be reminded that there are families at this complex, or it needs to be marketed as an adult-only complex if these two grumpy residents feel the need to target and bully kids and young families while they are paying a lot of money to stay there. We were even told by the manager our kids couldn't quietly play Marco Polo in the pool, there's literally a sign that says so. Good grief. 

As for our unit, #211, there is no privacy whatsoever--only 1 bedroom, a very open loft and the 3rd 'bed' is a pullout in the common area--be very mindful of your unit layout while booking. It was fine for our family, but I wouldn't want to share with friends or other family. The toilets need to be replaced, the TV upstairs didn't work, and the hot water lasted 3-5 minutes tops. You have to buy your own toiletries if you run out too. There were no oven mitts and barely the bare bones of utensils and essentials needed to cook and serve meals 

On a positive note, keyless and contactless check in was amazing and seamless. It was really nice that through the laundry room by the clothesline there was boogie boards, beach toys and even some snorkel gear for the kids to borrow/use. I have nothing bad to say about Bree (no actual interactions but have heard nothing but good things), and the property manager was a bit curt about the rules, but professional and a nice guy once you got talking to. The pool, hot tub, and views are absolutely amazing. No beach though, all lava rock. 

Whenever it is we get back to the island, I'm not sure I'd want to stay here again because of the two residents that made parts of our trip miserable.

Not-so-family-friendly…

Am here with family now- after staying in Kauai we feel as if though we left a five start condo for a 2 star condo.  Needs thorough cleaning- hair, tags and dust behind the bed stands when I tried to plug electronics.  No trash been in upstairs bathroom.  Toilet downstairs seems to tilt back when you use the bathroom.  Banisters throughout are dirty. Bedding had either makeup or someone’s dirty head stains on pillow.  The unit is not handicap friendly-you’ll have to go down quite a few steps then go back up quite a few steps to the second floor.  Definitely for healthy Abled people who can move around and are not concerned about cleanliness.  My 14 year old daughter asked if she could shower upstairs because the bathroom tub downstairs was old, stained and dirty. The upstairs loft bathroom is t that much better.  Was a review that everything f was new in this unit- I don’t see anything that is new.  Upgraded kit hen counters only.  Dingy stovetop with lots of stains.    Did t think about a/c gets warm upstairs.  You do only get two grungy looking towels- they could at least be white and clean but instead are scratchy and worn down.  Not the most pleasant stay.  If I did t have my family with me I wouldn’t be as picky but trusted the reviews that said it was clean.  It isn’t.

Needs better cleaning and lots of updates

My wife and I have stayed at this complex each of the 4 times we been to Maui over the past 8 years.  We particularly like Unit 220.  Our unit is recently redecorated and is clean, spacious, and nicely appointed with a great shower in the Master Bedroom.  It is not air conditioned, but there are plenty of ceiling fans and a couple of supplemental floor fans to help keep the place more than comfortable.  The pool and spa are quite nice and recently purchased gas BBQs are provided for guest use.  The view looks out at Molokai and the Pacific; great sunsets can be seen from the lawn by the pool area.  Polynesian Shores is only about 15-minutes from downtown Lahaina and is near such great restaurants as Merriman's, the Lahaina Grill, Kimo's, Roy's, Duke's Beach House.  Book your restaurants well in advance; there is restricted seating due to the present Covid restrictions.  Priced relatively reasonably in today's market, this is a place to which we plan to return (again).

A Nice Place to Stay While in Maui

I would NOT recommend – stay somewhere else. Terrible experience. The condos are set-up in a horseshoe arraignment (with someone above and on either side of you at #113). It is a fairly even mixture of people who live there permanently and vacation rentals. The bad: ZERO privacy – with NO CURTAINS ON THE BEDROOM WINDOW (which has people constantly walking in front of it looking inside) and also have people regularly walking right next to the porch area on the other end of the condo as well. Very noisy at all times due to the steady foot traffic directly outside your window and you can also hear the slightest noise/conversation from the other condos - as everyone leaves their windows open due to no a/c. They definitely love to keep up on the landscaping though – was a crew there on what seemed like a daily basis cutting grass, and the sprinklers were also a steady nuisance. There was also a creepy property manager (“Eric” I think) that was constantly following you around or staring at any girls laying at the pool. On top of all that, there are also a lot of strict policies at “polynesian shores” – like no one in the pool after 9pm, quiet time after 10pm, no smoking anywhere on the property including your porch area, cannot dry your towels on the back of your porch chair, etc... They also only provide 2 towels for the entire stay, there were a couple small stains/marks around the place especially in the bathroom, which we didn’t consider a big deal, but, the dishwasher was pretty nasty with a bad odor. The instructions from the Airbnb owner (maui paradise properties) were also confusing at best: Advised to check-in at the front desk immediately upon arrival (there is no front desk and the contact number provided is never answered), advised to use a key code to obtain keys from the “lockbox” to get in the door, there you will find keys on the counter to use during your stay so you can put the other keys back in the lockbox with a different code and if you mess any of this up you will be required to pay a locksmith to get back in (there are no keys, only a code for the front door lock which was the second key code provided in the instructions which did work during our entire stay), and the instructions also referenced proper use of the a/c (again, there is no a/c) – but, of course that property manager was right there and followed behind us when we arrived, peppering us with questions until we were able to get away from him and in the door – which may be considered a good thing as well because since he is always on watch, there’s someone looking out for break-ins I guess. The good: has a fairly nice view and the pool was ok when you could use it and when the property manager wasn’t there staring at you.
