Lake George

We rented 2 lake side rooms at Golden Sands Resort.  It was a nice clean motel on a beautiful lake. It was a little old fashion but that was part of the charm.  The family said they felt like they were in resort from dirty dancing!  The staff was pleasant and helpful.  It is in a great location easy access to busier tourist areas if you desire or just relax around a fire watching the the sunset!  We will return.

Nice Mini getaway!

To start when we arrived the women who met us was very short with us and we were overcharged $25 with no explanation. She acted like we were bothering her by checking in. We were handed 4 pages of things we were not to do. The carpets in the room were filthy. I did not remove my shoes on the carpet they were that bad. The chairs at the dining room table felt like you were going to break them.The bed was horrible. I mean like sleeping on a peice of plywood. Curtains were old and had a faint odor. They advertise hi speed wifi. When you arrive you recieve a paper saying what you can not do with wifi. Which dosnt matter because you can't connect unless you stand near office. The free kayaks need a $20 deposit that will not be returned should you not return within the hour time limit. Also the website makes it seem like all the rooms are near the water. Not the case. The upper rooms have to walk down the driveway and across the lawn to get to the beach area that is shared with the the hotels on either side. I feel with some updating the rooms could be wonderful. View was beautiful. Beach was sandy.

Not as advertised

This is our 2nd time in the same place and since we loved it so much we came back we stayed in Golden sands on August 25-27 and we had a great time 
On the way there we realized we will get there after the office was closed so I called and ask how can we get into the room 
The women ( I learned later she was the owner ) who spoke with me was so nice and she said not to worry she left me my envelope with key to the room in a place that was easy to find 
The room was cleaned and cozy 
We had 2 queen beds in the room 
At night it was a bit chilly the owner send her worker to open the heat in the room within seconds the room was so hot we needed to open a window 
The area around the room was so clean and welcoming the nice man who works there took our garbage few times a day 
I must tell you guys it’s a dream location 
I have never been in a place so close to the water line 
They have a nice deck built over the water and I drank my morning coffee there watching the sunrise and later that day we set there watching the the sunset 
This is a small family friendly place 
Let’s not forget the fire pit right by the water 
I am planing 2 trips for next summer girls trip and Hubby and me again

Relaxing time in Lake George

This is our second year returning to Golden Sands.. We came last year (our first time at LG) after finding them online. Not really knowing what to expect from this place or LG - we were AMAZED by the view from the private beach!! The grounds are beautifully maintained and the beach is clean and raked daily with plenty of Adirondack chairs and a fire pit for guests to use. The beach is larger than a lot of the motels around here offer, but the panoramic view of the lake is incomparable. They even have complimentary kayaks for guests to use which we love taking advantage of!
My fiance is extremely picky as far as cleanliness especially when travelling and he has not had any complaints here. The rooms are rustic-cabin themed with antlers everywhere - which I love! 

When booking our return trip for this year, I told my fiance I would absolutely not stay anywhere else in LG. 
You will NOT find this view, cleanliness, tranquility or kind service for the affordable price they offer anywhere else, trust me!

Only place we will ever stay in Lake George!!!

Golden Sands has its own private beach on Lake George, with a dock, and lots of beachfront chairs with a great view. The motel itself is older and the rooms are small, but the owners have tried to give it some charm with a few Adirondack-style lamps and other touches. The stall shower in the room was extremely small and quite a challenge for my tall husband. We chose the hotel because of the free kayaks, but borrowing them is limited to hotel office hours, which end at 4:45 - kayaks must be returned by then - if we had known this we would have made an effort to arrive earlier. At least we were able to take advantage of the beach!

Location is a plus.

Clean rooms, great little beach,  some other reviews that we saw before we went had me a little worried?  No it’s not the Marriott but it’s a great place. Rooms cleaned daily, soul bone back. Just wish they had boat dock space.

Little vacation

Despite the bad reviews I just read, we had the opposite experience. We had a great time. It was the perfect location between The 2 towns plus a beach property with free kayaking. The room was simple but clean. The host very accommodating and a very friendly young staff. I would recommend it and will return in the future. 

Great location 

I can’t say enough now bad this place was. I was absolutely appalled by the treatment I received here, they are absolutely blind to costumer service. I don’t know if it was because we were Hispanic but I do know that what they did to us, they would have never done to any average person. They grabbed our bags and threw them on their office floor as if we were criminals. All over a misunderstanding over their “4 person room limit.” I was shocked to see my TOOTHBRUSH next to my SHOES, when I got my stuff back. I can’t believe they didn’t communicate the presence of a conflict with me before throwing me out like i was a criminal.

In the end of it all THEY called the police only to be told by the police office that what they were doing with my stuff was WRONG. I can’t believe they touched my personal belongings. I can’t say enough and even beg, please DO NOT go here, the smallest issue will become an issue that somehow needs the sheriffs office to be involved. They called the police on us only to be told that we were in the right. They are disgusting people and we will NEVER return here. There are many other wonderful hotels, that we uunfortunately had to consider after their feeble attempt to kick us out, that you can visit. Lake George is a hidden paradise but rest assured that the people here will ruin your experience. My own mother cried trying to explain her misunderstanding that a room could fit 4 people and when I refused to leave, because where else could I go, they called the police. Again, only to be told they were wrong in their actions. They touched all my things and went through my bags looking for SOMETHING to get us. The manager seems like a racist, and it’s just a shame for such a nice place.

Unbelievably bad

Decided to take a family vacation to Lake George.  We found the most reasonable price at the Golden Sands during the time we wanted to stay.  The old saying “too good to be true” is what comes to mind.  Even though the price was reasonable in comparison to others, it was still expensive.  The rooms were so dark you could not see anything with all the lights in the room on. Very dated decor and the rugs must have been original to when the resort opened 50 plus years ago.  The shower was ridiculously small, like 12 inches by 12 inches.  The rooms and the grounds were filthy.  There were duck dropping everywhere on the grounds and all over the beach.  It was disgusting.  I would not cook on the grills provided if someone payed me to do so. We didn’t expect anything fancy from a cabin on the lake at all but there’s no excuse for the filthy conditions we had to endure.  Owner was odd and did not take constructive criticism well at all. He kept talking to me about his girlfriend and guests that he did not like the first time I spoke to him.  Very unprofessional. The Diamond Grove next door was a much better choice.  Worth the extra few dollars.  Just trying to save someone from what we went through. Yuck!!!!

DIRTY CABINS WITH TINY SHOWERS

The view from the motel to the lake and the mountains is great, very close to the tourist attractions, the rooms are clean and all the amenities are perfect, but the walls are cardboard so we hear the crying of our neighbors' children as if they were from our room.
