On a recent visit to Lake Placid we had a very enjoyable and satisfying stay at the Mirror Lake Inn.  The accommodations were excellent and so was the food.  Unfortunately, our dining experience at the Interlaken Inn was abysmal.  We had a reservation for dinner and we expected to be seated in the dining room.  We were told the dining room was reserved for a private party and we were seated in the bar.  Our experience with the dinner itself was equally unsatisfactory.  The schnitzel was ill-prepared, the spaetzle was soggy, and the cabbage, which was the saving grace of the meal was scanty.

We ate at the Interlaken for the first time since the new owners took over.  It was always our favorite restaurant in Lake Placid previously and that has not changed at all.  The service and food was outstanding.  The chef/owner is from New Orleans and that can be seen in the menu.  Our appetizers and entrees were excellent!  Our waiter was Nemanja who was very attentive without being over bearing.  His suggestions were spot on and he was gracious throughout our meal.  The Interlaken is back as one of the premier dining options in Lake Placid!!  We will be back!

Outstanding food and service!

We had a reservation for dinner and were really looking forward to it. We drove over from Saranac Lake. My sister is in a wheelchair. 
Drove up to the in, steep set of stairs up to the restaurant. I ran in to ask about handicap entrance. I was told there was a rear entrance with fewer stairs but not wheelchair accessible. We were very disappointed and left. 

No handicapped access

We wanted to do something special for friends at their first visit to Lake Placid and The Interlaken Inn.  They were arriving in July for a long weekend.  I spoke to Casey and Justin who I found out later are the owners.  They were very helpful and created this charcuterie board for their arrival.  Our friends sent this pic and were so happy and pleased.  Thank you Casey and Justin for helping us give a perfect gift to special friends.

Exceptinal Customer Service!!

The food is delicious! We were a party of 6 and between us, we sampled almost every dish on the menu. Chef Justin’s cuisine is refined and delicate! This restaurant is up to par with the finest in Montreal!!

Excellent cuisine and warm hospitality

New Interlaken inn. Food was very good. We had corn croquettes for appetizer- very good. Dinner- short ribs were very good, but the portion size on the small size, yet very good. Also had clam- pasta special and that also was very good. Support staff a bit on the rough side.  Could not deliver a hot cup of tea. Would we come again? Yes, hopefully the support staff will improve. Bottom line- good new chef, staff needs to match his level.

I came to Lake Placid to watch the World University Games and I was fortunate to find this place at the last minute. The staff was very helpful and accommodating. My room had a very comfortable bed. It also had a living room, with access to a balcony, though I wasn’t able to open the door for that. The room had an electric heater in case the built-in radiators weren’t enough. The sink was located outside of the bathroom. Guests are asked to leave dirty shoes (which is almost certain in the winter) outside of the room. I couldn’t connect to the Wi-Fi with my laptop. The place is walking distance to Main St but the most direct way back involves going up a steep hill.

Cozy, charming place, great location

Had a nice quiet elegant dinner.   Very good service.  NY strip au poivre and Veal saltimbuca for my companion.  Decent wine selection.  Try the maple bourbon, drinks afterwards at Mirror Lake Inn was a nice end to evening.  Parking is tight and atmosphere is very old world charm

Quiet dinner

First time ever writing a review but after two great meals this week, I feel compelled to share!  We've been coming to LP a few times a year for the last ten years and always try to stop at the Interlaken for dinner when we're in town.  It is hands down the best restaurant in town - consistently delicious, creative gourmet meals and fabulous service. The bar area has so much character - we always request the high top in the bar or the banquette!  We loved our meal so much earlier this week that we came back again two nights later!  Not only was the food to die for, but the service was flawless and Mary is the most welcoming host - she went out of her way to make sure we felt at home by bringing activities to the table to keep our kids happy and busy so the adults could enjoy themselves!  And Brian the bartender was great also!  We have not done much indoor dining during COVID, but we felt completely safe at the Interlaken - they did a great job spacing the tables and sanitizing everything!  During our week stay in LP, we ate out at three other "nice" restaurants and were extremely disappointed- food quality was poor and service was terrible due to staffing cutbacks.   It is completely understandable that quality and service could suffer during COVID, but the lack of apology or acknowledgement was unfortunate.  Other than the masks and hand sanitizing station at the Interlaken, nothing had changed - great atmosphere, impeccable service, and out of this world food!  Can't wait to visit again!

Never Disappoints... Even During Covid!

Mary and John saved the day for us when wedding plans had to change due to covid guidelines. Mary went out of her way to help with anything that came up regarding the wedding, despite the ceremony not actually being at the Inn, including providing space for the ceremony in case the weather did not cooperate. Every detail one could imagine was attended to, the food was delicious. the rooms were sparkling clean and each one was lovely. The location is walking distance from the village of Lake Placid with shopping and restaurants. 
Highly recommend the Inn if you are staying in Lake Placid!
