I needed a quick emergency room to stay at for a week that is in my price range. 
I know this area has a reputation but I saw that they have new management and have been doing a lot of upgrading so I decided to check it out 
I got room 231. It has a big nice comfortable bed and a kitchenette. And a nice view of the beautiful courtyard 
It is a nice big clean room with a tub and shower so I enjoyed soaking in the tub 
They let me keep my pet bird which I am very happy about 
It’s safe and secure and went beyond my expectations.

Nice Surprise

A few years ago, we stayed at Josefina's Gate in Mesilla, and loved it. Great location, really funky, cool hotel.

Well, this is something of the same experience, except at a fraction of the price and in a more mundane setting - the motel strip area of Las Cruces.

The new owners are hands-on and charming - they even let us book in at 11:00 AM because we have a pet, or perhaps just because. They then upgraded us at no extra charge to a massive pet-proofed room overlooking the fabulous courtyard which has a swimming pool, a koi pond, a waterfall, a gazebo, an arbor, two grills and a smoker, lots of tables and chairs dotted around, and many little artistic touches.

Yeah, the immediate vicinity isn't cute or prestigious - but nor does it seem problematic - but this is quite the oasis. If you often use Motel 6 or similar, but fancy somewhere cheaper yet a lot more charming, funky and fun, do not hesitate. It is also only 5 minutes (if that) from the Rio Grande, where you can swim, ten minutes from the Main Street center of Las Cruces, and fifteen minutes from Mesilla with its 5 excellent restaurants.

Highly recommended.

A delightful, funky, inexpensive oasis of a motel

Chili motel is the worst place to stay here in Las Cruces...They charge you a deposit on the room then they charge you a dog deposit plus a linen n key deposit n they say that you will get all that back but they are lier's and thief's... They threw me out kept all the deposites. N a week of rent.. they said my daughter's boyfriend was doing some stuff... I had nothing to do with it... So I'm telling you All now Do Not I Mean Do Not stay there.. the manager threatened to call the cops on me if I didn't leave in two hours n it was the next day after my daughter n her boyfriend came to see me....Not the Day of the incident...

Hands down the worst hotel/motel I or my wife have stayed in. We got into the room and we just could not stay. We tried to go back up too the front desk and no one was around. We waited for 20mins and still no one. The room was not clean, the bed looked like they made the bed with the same dirty sheets from the last person that was in there. It was gross. My wife could not even use the bathroom because there was poop on the toilet seat. We left and never will come back. We took the loss of our money as a lesson learned. Its like they knew the room was dirty and disappeared so they dont have to give us our money back

Waste of money

This place was awful from the moment I walked in. I dont know why I even stayed probably because I was tired! The service was awful the room was disgusting I put my own blanket on top to even feel remotely comfortable. It was so dusty in there I slept with my mask on... Go figure. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy.

AWFUL

We booked the hotel looking for a different experience and based on the decent reviews on trip advisor and Yelp.  We had a very different experience.

I feel like the motel would have been great in it's prime with the courtyard and view of the mountains.
Everything after that was a bit of a let down.

First, I will say that the staff was friendly and professional.  

When checking in, they asked for both of our licences (that was a first and should have been a warning).

The room in general was very dirty.  We did not want to sit on the couch or take our shoes off.
The room door looked like it had been broken into and there was no deadbolt/ safety latch.  

About 3 cop cars showed up to the motel around 8 pm and walked around the courtyard.  

Not sure if this was routine but the long term residents did not seem to be phased.

Had we been traveling with kids, we would have found different accommodations.

Overall, the room was cheap, but you get what you pay for.

Read before booking - especially if traveling with kids or alone

We came by to take a picture of our car with the chili .  It was a nice day and great to see.  A fun roadside attraction and not far off the freeway.  This has been on the BMW commercials along with other roadside attractions throughout the USA.

Visiting area

This is absolutely the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. The room was filthy dirty! The curtains was missing  with only a old slat blind that we could see out of and any one walking by could see in. This seemed to be mostly a shelter for the homeless.  Banging and yelling all night. Police come once but after they left the activity started again. Definitely don’t stay here unless you are armed and ready to protect yourself! There is a reason all hotel staff leaves at 11:00pm and don’t return until 7:00am. I won’t even mention the sights you will see at breakfast.

The room was missing several things that would of been nice to have.  No drinking glasses, no where to hang your clothes up just to name a few.  I think they are trying to improve things, but I will not be staying there again.  I also had concerns about how clean it was.

Needs Improvement

No room on first floor even though we asked for one ahead of time. Disabled relative.The Inn did not look at all that safe, but still would have stayed. The clerk seemed nonchalant and didnt really look concerned or try to accommodate us. So we left and stayed at another great Inn. I'm so glad we were turned down. The only good thing about this Inn we had booked was the Big Chili structure in front of the place that made for a great photo opt.
