We try to seek out and stay in historic hotel properties, and the Town Hall Inn in Lead, South Dakota (it really was the town hall back in the first half of the 20th century) certainly provided a unique and great stay!  We were upstairs in the Plat and Tract Office room, which featured high ceilings, a king sized bed, great shower, and air conditioning - a very comfortable room.  Owner Sue puts out a nice little continental breakfast in the morning, too.  Just watch out for the 32 stairs to the second floor!  There is not an elevator!

Historic Town Hall Building is Now a Hotel

Loved this small inn.  Directly across from the Open Cut on Main Street in Lead.  Visited in mid-winter and our two first floor rooms were cozy and spacious with very high ceilings and comfortable beds.  It really was the town hall and each room has its unique character.  In room microwave, fridge and (!) ice maker.  Breakfast options were on the minimalist side but the coffee was above average.  The histories of Lead and Deadwood are intertwined and we found it more interesting to "visit" Deadwood but stay in Lead.

Cozy, warm, friendly, historic and great location

Loved our stay here! We stayed in the Engineer's Room, which was very spacious. This was seriously, by far, the cleanest hotel we have ever stayed in. Ever. Everything was absolutely immaculate. Remember this is a hotel- not a b&b. However, the owner has gone out of her way to add very nice touches. There are small ice machines in the room, nice bath supplies, and heat lamps in the bathrooms. The breakfast spread was simple but perfect. Muffins, oatmeal, fruit, and more were offered. And her coffee was amazing! The only thing I would have liked was larger to-go coffee cups. We would stay here again in a heartbeat, and have already been recommending it to friends who are planning trips that way. Stay here, you will be happy you did!

Immaculate 

We stayed in the Auditor's room for one night and it was lovely.  The communication between the hotel and us regarding our arrival was great and the check in process very quick.  

Our room was spacious with a nicely equipped kitchette (which we didn't need to use), nice sitting area and bathroom.  It was very quiet even though we were on the ground floor on a side street side.  

We went downstairs to the Jailhouse Pub, had a beer and visited with the really friendly owner.  We learned a lot about the area and got some suggestions for dinner.

Deadwood is very close and there are lots of options to dine there, which we did.  In the morning, we had a nice continental breakfast right outside our door with fresh coffee, pastries, muffins, yogurt, toast and I believe bagels.  The coffee was plentiful and it was nice that we could just step out our door for a refill.  

All in all, we had a great stay and would return if going to that area again.

Very comfortable stay

What an absolute gem. Very happy that I didn't book in Deadwood which looks like fun but also very touristy. The Town Hall Inn is a historical gem with each bedroom one of the rooms of the old town hall and still with the name of the room above the door.

The room was really well appointed and with huge ceilings. I was in the Deliberation room and it was lovely to think of all the town discussions that took place in the room.

The owners are new and are clearly dedicated to making the Inn as good as it can be. The provision of plugs and USB chargers by the bed are a perfect example.  The Wi-Fi is also excellent. 

There is a bar is the basement (which used to be the police cells) with micro brewery beers that are worth visiting the Inn for on their own merit. The bartender Chris is a delight and she had that great ability to bring parties together in the bar so that you make new friends.

I am traveling across the US from coast to coast and this has been one of the highlights of my trip.

My wife and I stayed here for Sturgis and had an issue w the toilet. We were not able to get it resolved before we left but the owners called and made things right. They are honest and have great customer service skills. Thanks guys.

Great customer service and great place to stay

What a fantastic location and unique experience to stay in this beautiful Town Hall. We highly recommend this beautiful Inn, Sue was an excellent source of information, clean bathroom. We loved the area, close to Deadwood, definitely drive Spearfish Canyon. Close to Crazy Horse and Mt Rushmore, also.

Unique Inn, Excellent Stay

The owners were very personable and accommodating. 
The room was clean and well furnished. Unique. 
Lead was interesting and we enjoyed the small town vibe. Very interesting visitor center. 
We would certainly stay again.

Great stay

Proprietors have created a warm, inviting, comfortable inn on Main St. in Lead. Clean, quiet and the Jailhouse Taps brews excellent beer! Complimentary glass was most appreciated! Simple, self-serve breakfast was just right. Very friendly and hospitable place to land. Thank you!

Fabulous Bed & Breakfast

My family and I booked a week at this charming and historic Inn and had a wonderful time!  The owners are very kind, helpful, and accommodating. The room was very clean, comfortable and interesting as part of the historic space.  Lead, SD is a beautiful town to stay in in the Black Hills.  Very central to the whole regional experience.  If you choose to stay in the Black Hills you really owe it to yourself to stay at the Town Hall Inn in Lead.  You won't regret it.
