Amazing job of refinishing while keeping the feeling and integrity of this historic gem!  Can’t wait to go back!  

Food was great, the bar is so cozy and our room was lovely. We felt like we had gone back in time. We will definitely stay again. Highly recommend.

Beautiful hotel

The hotel is very clean and so charming.  It is not a spa so ignore negative reviews.  What a wonderful slice of history and beauty.  Staff is amazing.  Leadville is an adventurous outdoors persons dream.  Delaware Hotel is one of our favorites!

Funky fun hotel. Accommodating staff. Great spot for home made breakfast. Great location. Don’t expect the Ritz, this is an OLD hotel that has been updated to make guest feel comfortable for their overnight stay.

Leadville fun

I booked this hotel for 2 days at the end of September directly through the hotel.  Due to illness I had to cancel the reservation on 9/20 (10 days before). On check in day 9/30 I got an email saying they had billed my credit card for my stay. I immediately contacted them on the website that I had canceled the reservation on 9/20.  Natalie confirmed that YES my reservation was canceled.  I assumed my card would credited within a few days but now it has been 11 days and I got crickets.  3 emails and attempted to call directly but the phone is BUSY ALL THE TIME.  Did they close??  I am at a loss of patience as well as over $400.  DON'T STAY HERE!!!

Ghosted in a bad way

"Historic" = old. No elevator, indifferent service at check-in (no welcome, no smile), parking a half block away in a gravel outdoor lot with no security, sloping floor in guest room, surprisingly noisy from traffic at night (since speeding vehicles ignore low speed limit through town) even on the side street, you hear the traffic noise from the main street (especially if the head/top of your bed is placed directly in front of window as ours were). If hotel has a restaurant, it's news to me since it's not visible from check-in; we brought in good muffins/scones from local bakery in the morning for breakfast. Free morning coffee on 2nd floor of hotel ran out of milk for coffee by 9 a.m, & it had not been refilled by the time we checked out at 11 a.m. Hotel is clean, but nothing special or charming.

Nothing special or charming

The Delaware Hotel is very nice.  A rustic old hotel that is very comfortable (although, renovations have most of the first floor unusable for now).  The staff were helpful and the restaurant is small but nice (breakfast and lunch only, no dinner).  The only reason I did not give a 5* was we booked and confirmed a second floor room, there are no elevators.  When we check in, there were only third floor rooms available.  Parking was not the easiest, but not too bad in a small town .

Nice Hotel

I booked a room block for a class for my non-profit organization, including six rooms I pre-paid and another 10 rooms for group members to book on their own.  Upon arrival, two of the rooms I had already paid for were not available, despite room numbers being assigned to them on the bill, and I was forced to send two of my group to the Old Tale Inn, a motel owned by the same company.  No member of ownership/management would see me and they left the front desk person to deal with my dismay (she did a great job).  She told me she would get me a discount on the walked rooms.  My card was credited for two rooms the next day, and I assumed it would be left that way but then I recieved a bill from the motel for more than the original two rooms had cost.  It took one unanswered email and two unreturned phone calls to resolve it, and the owners/managers still refused to speak with me and left the poor front desk person to deal with it.  Their resolution was a mere 20% discount on the motel rooms.  The hotel also sent out guest feedback surveys that had no way to respond to them; they came from a "no-reply" email address and didn't have a link or any other way to give feedback.  I almost never take the time to give a review on a third party site, but this was the last straw for me.

Very poor guest service, and a seemingly uncaring attitude

The renovations were ongoing but we were made welcome, hope they don't wreck the historical aspect of the place. Oor room was nice and we had a good breakfast downstairs in the morning. There is a car park round the block

Nice Stay

Except for the noise level, I would say it was a good hotel to stay at. They are in various stages of renovation. 1st floor is a mess, but navigable. On Main Street so easy walking distance for restaurants, stores, and museums.
No ghostly encounters, but I can see how people can mistake different sounds as scary. Floors look to be a pine flooring with some carpet, but sits about 4-6” from a type of sun flooring.
Rooms are small with modern bathroom conveniences. Hard to regulate the temperature in room. We had our windows open until the 2am crowd screaming on the street.
The restaurant attached to the hotel served great choices of food.
Best of luck! I hope they keep the Bictorisn era look as well as using a lot of the photos stashed in corners.

Renovations continue.

Delaware is definitely a work in progress. It will be THE place to be when remodeling is finished. As of September there was no elevator for us seniors, but the young, strapping staff cheerfully ran up the rather steep stairs with our luggage to our room. The lobby furniture is rather kitschy mid-20th century. I caution the hotel to do a good/great, not just adequate, job in the remodel-- for instance, the carpeted floors on second and third floors are uneven underfoot, the wallpaper in the hall bulges in places. The staff is friendly, helpful. The rooms are small ... but maintain the 19th century 'feel' we came here for. Two main attributes are the perfect location for exploring the historic area, and the adjacent Mineral Restaurant (separate review). Leadville's blocks are short, and well worth a walk and a visit to the country's highest-altitude incorporated town. Would be pleased to stay here again and see progress made in remodel.
