Econo Lodge Lee - Great Barrington

Always willing to give a "low end" motel a shot, and trying to keep within budget, we stayed here before visiting the Norman Rockwell Museum the next day. We've stayed at many independent reinvented older motels and lesser chain motels and have had pleasant experiences. Besides, this one was among the least expensive lodgings in an expensive area.

The bed was comfortable, and we had a good night's sleep. But on closer review the next morning, the lack of close cleaning became evident in the months (years?) worth of crud built up in the bathroom vent, which was obviously doing it's job pulling air: it was filthy, as was the waste basket which was equally filthy! 

I rarely offer poor reviews, and it really take a lack of basic effort on the innkeepers' part for me to do so. Needless to say, we won't stay here again.

Gave The Place A Try But Not Again

Paid a fortune to stay here on a Saturday night because very few other options. 
Pros—own entrance, fridge, microwave, TV, no rugs on floors, clean bedding 
Cons—very shabby, kind of dirty, everything is broken or falling apart, smell from AC of stale smoke and whatever, ice maker didn’t work.

If you have an option you might want to choose another place.

Pretty bad

Not clean…at all. The bathroom was disgraceful. Beyond the fact that it’s just in need of standard upkeep like caulking - it was completely filthy.

There was also ants all over.

While the rate was surely jacked up for July 4 weekend, it was was absolutely not worth the stay and all you get for what you pay for is a place to sleep. 

They should really be embarrassed for themselves.

Not worth staying here.

Filthy.

We were in the area for a concert at Tanglewood and were happy to have found a room for the night.  In hindsight, it might have been a better idea to sleep in the car.  The place was disgusting - sticky laminate floors, the night table held together by duct tape, bathroom in serious need of repairs and no evidence that the place had recently been cleaned. Oh, and I realize motels raise their rates during concert season, but this $68 room was well over $200.

Not recommended

The room smelled like cigarettes.  There were hair extensions on the floor and filth on the outside of the bathtub. The air vent covers were so dirty that they couldn’t have been operable. Bad customer service on top. I wish I had gone elsewhere and will never go back.

Beyond Bad

Arrived late for one night.  The lady who checked me in was super friendly and welcoming.  First floor room was clean and bed was comfy that night.  Showers were fine.  Checkout was simple.  Nice mountain view from parking lot in the morning.

Nice Overnight

The room was dirty, the toilet seat was soo old the finish was worn off and looked 40 years old. it was noisy, a person was warming their car for 45 min in front of my room and clearly needed a muffler.  It was 5 degrees out and the heat supplied by the in-wall ac unit was noisy and overheated the room. I couldn't sleep as the room got too hot and cold. The weather stripping on the front door was torn off and didn't help. I found a lock of bunch-up hair on the shower curtain and bugs that look like a cross of a roach and  grasshopper.  My wife was so grossed out that she bathed the dog and washed all our clothes, even those we didn't wear when we got home. If you want to relax don't go there.

Dirty and pet friendly but $20 a day charge for my small dog.

Dumpy. No restaurant, room service or bar as stated on website. Rooms were to be no smoking but it definitely smelled of years of it. Probably in carpet and drapes. Free breakfast was a small selection of prepackaged breakfast pastries although they were fresh and good. Quaint setting but old and in need of a remodel job. Staff were nice.

You get what you pay for

I don’t expect much when I only pay $68 for a room, but I did expect the toilet, towels and floor to be clean.  Unfortunately, they weren’t.  There were urine splashes and mold or feces on the toilet bowel and the floor clearly hadn’t been swept.  When I unfolded a “clean” towel for the shower the next morning, there was a large clump of hair in the fold.  On the positive side, it was a spacious room with a microwave and fridge, toiletries, Kleenex, clean cups, working tv, plenty of lights, and a luggage rack.  The furniture was dated, but in good condition.

Some good points, but serious issues with cleaning

I have stayed hear a number of times over the years.  The rooms are quite small, but do have microwave and small fridge; desk and chair.  Management is consciencious with upkeep of building and grounds. Breakfast is rudimentary--coffee, apples or bananas and cellophane-wrapped pastries.  The weekend summer prices are lower than the motels in downtown Lee, a mile away.
