As with others in the 1 star I booked a room and then had to cancel because of road work that made it difficult to impossible to get the hostel. The Caltrans twitter said not to count on the road being accessible so I cancelled my reservation to drive a different route. I did not get a refund.

However, my main issue is the woman kept insisting I couldn't get a refund because I booked through booking.com which I did not. I booked through the hostel website. My confirmation email and cancellation email came from reservationcounter.com which is the system you use if you book directly through the hostel. She showed me the screen shot showing booking.com and I showed her my email that was clearly not from booking.com. Then she just did not respond and kept my $190.  Also it was a Saturday night on spring break and the Dow had been full for three weeks prior so I am pretty sure they kept my money and then charged someone else for the same room...I cancelled over 24 hours before check in and they had plenty of time to receive the notice.

The Dow Villa is directly next store, is comparable in price and is far more accommodating to last minute changes to traveling which happen to everyone.  I have been staying at the Dow for over 15 years for work and personal travel and never had anything but good experiences including with last minute changes. They were full so I thought I would try next store but that was a huge mistake.

Don't book unless you are 100% going and are sure nothing will change your plans

Front desk staff are not very helpful and nice. They were not even capable of recommending places to eat.  
I also had something taken from my room, I left a message, sent an email and still have not heard back from them.  They are many other places to stay in the town at a reasonable price. 


Poor front desk service

Kind of a cross between a motel and hostel. We had a private room and bath. AC worked great (but noisy) which is important in July in Lone Pine. Staff was very nice. No housekeeping services or amenities (shampoo, etc.). I think my husband thought it was more of a motel but it’s truly a hostel with a few private rooms. It was very convenient to many things. Although it was fine for our needs in this trip, I’ll likely select another motel next time. Very little availability this time of year. 

Convenient with beautiful view

Very basic accommodation but very clean, safe, and cosy. And in a great location. Room had everything we needed and really comfy beds, nice decor, and was warm. Great view from the balcony of the mountains, and right in the middle of town, with plenty of parking nearby, and restaurants.

Pleasantly surprised, and would stay again if in Lone Pine.

Really nice!

Had a rough experience arriving around 10:30 pm, door to room locked, no staff on-site, finally got inside and my assigned bed was taken. Overall clean hostel in good location right in downtown Lone Pine. 

Nice hostel, not well set up for late arrivals

Centrally Located and clean,  this hostel was a  fantastic  choice for budget travelers.  I really enjoyed staying here.  But staying in 8 beds  male dorm did have a drawback.  One guest was a very noisy sleeper and it was a challenging night to get good sleep.   Previous reviewer was unhappy and wrote  'dirty- do not stay' opinion.  I think he happened to  stay with  a messy guest and the dorm may have been unsatisfactory condition until the staff cleaned it up.  In my case,  the dorm was in very clean condition and  I was totally happy about the room and the bathroom.  But once again,  I could not avoid the guest with the rough sleeping problem.   It is a downside to bargain traveling....

When we first arrived here I was pleasantly surprised by how nice and quiet it seemed. The room was of a decent size and there was a coffee machine, fridge and air con. Then as I began to unpack and get ready for bed I started to notice how dirty the place actually was. There were dirty ring marks from mugs/glasses on the bedside table, hairs all over the place (including on the pillows) and either a headband or a pair of underpants (not sure which as didn't want to investigate) had been left behind the bathroom door. This place had quite obviously not been cleaned at all. Not even the bed linens had been changed! There were black marks, hairs and other such evidence on the sheets and they didn't feel clean at all. So after knowing this I didn't sleep well at all, obviously. Never again.

OH also the wifi hardly worked.

DIRTY - DO NOT STAY

This is not a Hilton hotel if you know what I mean. But it offers you what you need for your visit in Lone Pine to a reasonable price. The rooms are equipped with AC,Tv, microwave,bathroom and free WiFi in the rooms. And it feels like going back to the 1980 when entering the rooms. 

The hotel is located at the main road, so it it very easy to find. Free parking. 

Reasonable price

Booked a four bed room . The place was clean and comfortable. Bit of a lug getting the gear to the upper floor.via a narrow stairway. Parking was adequate.
The staff were friendly and helpful.
Central location for shops and restaurants.
