I am in Louisville every year for events and there is only one place I will stay and that's Woodspring Suites in Jeffersontown.  I love the suites.  They are large, spacious, and comfortable.  They are also extremely clean.  I feel very safe and comfortable there like a home away from home which makes it great for me for work.  Speaking of work, I need a dependable place to conduct my media coverage for the events and this place is great.  The Wi-Fi is fast and dependable and there is a nice work space in the room.  I will always stay in this particular WoodSpring Suites any time I am in Louisville. Highly recommend!!!

Best Place to Stay in Louisville

On Wednesday, August 11 I was on my way home after dropping my daughter off for college.

About midnight I decided I was too tired to continue and wanted to find an inexpensive hotel option to just pull over for a few hours of shut eye before continuing home the next day.

I found the Woodspring Suites Hotel on the hotels.com app and booked a stay for that evening. This was around 11PM on Wednesday.

It took forever to find the place as the egress into the hotel is not well marked. When I found it, I observed numerous parties of young men loitering in the parking lot. The hotel lobby was CLOSED. I had to use a phone to call someone to check me in. It took about 20 minutes for the "manager" to come to the lobby to check me in. I was very nervous as there were many parties of young men loitering about and watching me. To find no one attending the check in process was equally unnerving. 

I ignored my fears (not smart) and waited for the manager to come down and check me in. He finally did and gave me a room key. Someone came stumbling off the elevator as I boarded it.  The elevator was very rickety and unkempt. 

I went straight to my room a little un-nerved. I checked under the bed and in the bathroom and it was all clear - so I went over to the door, and very consciously bolted it at the bottom and moved the deadbolt lever above to the locked position. 

I laid down on the bed and was checking my text messages, when I heard a whirring sound at the hotel room door. It sounded like the noise made when you unlock a door via an electronic key card. I felt sick to my stomach, walked over to the door, and sure enough, the door had been unlocked from the outside. I then looked at the deadbolt bar above, and realized it was defective. It did not hold the door at all. It appeared to be a legit lever lock, but on examination, it did not work at all. It was merely a facade of a lock. I realized at that moment there was nothing between me and the hallway. There was not a single operating lock!

I called 911 and explained the situation to the operator and told her I was very vulnerable and in a terribly unsafe situation. She kept me on the phone for about ten minutes while the police arrived. She told me the police would be knocking on the door in a minute or two which they did.

I showed the officer the lock on the hotel room door and he confirmed there was no properly operating lock. He told me I was most likely going to be robbed, and they get calls from that facility almost every evening. He advised me to leave the premises which I did. I noticed a significant police presence as I was leaving and it was most likely because of my call.

The next day I called hotels.com and told them of this awful experience. They were not sympathetic in the least bit. They wanted to know if I reported the incident to the manager on the duty. I laughed at the absurdity as there was no manager or attendant on duty and they are so out of touch with their properties I could not get that through to them. They wanted a copy of a police report, which I was able to get via email. I provided them a police report which confirmed there was NO LOCK on the door. I have a copy of the police report.

I also called "hotel management" the next day. Spoke with two women in the office who clearly were uninterested in what I had to say. She said the police are only called once every other week or so and not every night. She said she was UNAWARE the police had arrived the night before in response to my incident. She could not explain how they were able to get up to my room. I asked her to check the surveillance video (as it is posted at the check in area that the hotel is under surveillance). I wanted her to check the surveillance and she would be able to see who unlocked my door that evening and could also presumably tell me how the police were able to enter the building - as she says she had no knowledge they were even there the prior night. She was not interested in responding to that either that day or the next day when I followed up with her again. I have never heard from anyone at Woodspring Suites regarding my unfortunate "stay".

I believe this hotel should be shut down - and hotels.com needs to be more responsible for the safety of their consumers. It's laughable that on the hotels.com home page a banner appears that says they care about our safety. They care we don't get covid but if we get robbed or assaulted in our sleep apparently that's OK.

Beware!! Stay at your own risk!!!

On Aug 1st I posted a bad review of this hotel, about 24 hours after posting the review Jill the Director of Marketing and Culture called me to get an understanding of what happened. I believe in great customer service and even though I did not receive it the day of, I can truly say that Jill turned my view of her company around. After hearing what happen Jill went above and beyond to correct the issue.  Thank You JIll for being awesome at what you do and for being understanding of the situation/my emotions. 
YOU TOTALLY ROCK! You renewed my hope in your hotel chain and I am willing to give it another try.

When we pulled in the lot, someone was changing his oil in the parking lot. Hmmm. The smoking area greeted us at the front door. Really? You walk into a wide hallway and the receptionist is behind this maybe 5x5 cutout with a drop cover. Uh oh. She greets you with, "You know this is a basic place, right? Basic."  Red flag. Then she asked if we wanted shampoo. The room itself was actually clean. We appreciated the laminate flooring. We were surprised that the only bed in the room is a "California Twin." That's right. Maybe it was supposed to be a double. When you got into it, the mattress - supremely uncomfortable - slid to the side. Two miserly pillows were offered (if you need some fluff to your pillow, expect to stuff extra clothes under them). Chairs were hard plastic old school conference room chairs. The TV had a lot of channels. Basic means you get two towels, two wash rags and no hand towels. If you stay more than one night (we did not), you pay if you want new towels and fresh sheets. If you want to use the kitchenette you pay for a fork, spoon, plate, pan, etc. You have to check out the iron. Etc. The office/reception closed at around 7 p.m., I think, and wasn't yet open when we left at 7 a.m. I'd add a couple more dollars to the $110 we paid (huge conference in town, sold out rooms all around) and stay elsewhere if rooms were available.

Know What You're In For

We specifically looked for hotels that accept pets. Not only did we double check the website but we had stayed in this hotel only a month before with our cat. Upon arriving we were informed that the hotel does not accept pets. We were then informed they would make an exception to their policy for an additional $50 per night. We have never been charged a pet fee that high before.

Never stay again!

This place deserves less than 0 stars! The front desk lady name Sandy was SMOKING IN THE ELEVATOR when we walked in. When I made a comment she said "it's ok" 🧐🤦🏼‍♀️
Loud air conditioners, no soap or coffee in the room.

...My 4th year at Kentucky Derby, Great place to stay during Derby Week.. Nice Front Desk People, and Close to highway... No Taj Majal, but a  nice,  inexpensive, Friendly place to stay for a week.. Love the Kitchen, stove ,Refridge and ,microwave..

We can’t say enough good things about the Woodsprings Suite at Kentucky Mills Drive, just off Blankenbaker in Louisville.  We were between houses - sold one but not closed on the next - so we had to find somewhere for a couple of weeks.  We found this place by accident because we started off at a nearby hotel on a night-by-night basis.  That gets expensive very quickly.  I (husband) had previously stayed in an extended stay hotel, years ago, in Louisville and I warned my wife that these places were cheap but grim.  Sandy took us around the Woodsprings Suite and we were impressed by the cleanliness and the apparent security.  We moved in and were never uncomfortable or felt unsafe. The room facilities were excellent - everything worked - and clean towels and sheets were available whenever requested.  The staff were always helpful and friendly and you could tell that they were proud of their hotel.  The laundry area was clean and not overpriced.  I would stay there again and would recommend it to any friend who was looking for somewhere to stay in Louisville for more than a few nights.  Excellent value, convenient location, great people..

Stayed for 1 month while working during June/July. Staff went over the top to make sure I was taken care of. Linda was the best housekeeper I have ever had & management was always close when I had a comment or suggestion. Upon entering all I could smell was fresh, clean laundry, which beats all the old musty-smelling hotels out there. Smokers are on the 3rd floor & I never smelled smoke anywhere else in the building...not even in or around the elevator. Laundry room was always clean, halls were always clean, neighbors were always quiet (I worked 3rd shift), room was spotless, AC was cold. If I had to complain about anything it would be the sitting chair in the room was just a hard, stand alone, uncomfortable chair. I really liked (as a single, traveling for work, female) that the doors were always locked...you had to have a key to get in, except for the front desk area. Even coming in at 3am, I felt safe in the parking lot. My family came to surprise me, but their surprise was ruined when the front desk called to let me know I had visitors...she would not just let them in. If I return to Louisville for work again, I will most definitely be staying here!
