Room was clean and fresh, AC blows cold. Front desk was nice and helpful. Quiet and safe, I'll definitely be back when business brings me to this area again. Magnolia Cafe nearby has great breakfast tacos, nice place.

Very nice stay!

I'm giving this a 4 star because of the excellent service that my family received this past weekend. First, they actually called us back after a few weeks of us being on a waiting list. Second, they made sure we had a crib in our room waiting for us. And third, there was a nice little bag of snacks for us. We stayed there for a wedding nearby and while the rooms were not high end, they were totally clean and had everything we needed for a night. I'll be cross-posting this review on other travel sites.

Decent quality rooms with excellent service

Nothing amazing but nothing that could not be handled for a night.  Remember you have about 3 choices when staying in this town.  We were in town for a wedding, and this was about as close as we could get to the wedding.  We felt safe and the bed was comfortable, plenty of food choices around.  The only negative was that the WIFI was non existent.

Pretty much what we expected

Stayed at this hotel a couple of weeks ago and the desk clerk informed me that I am paying for an upgraded pillow top mattress.  NEVER heard of this and told her so. Fast forward to the next morning and found that I had a visitor in my room...a FROG.  A FREAKING FROG!  Informed front desk and she told me that the housekeeping people leave doors open to air the room out and this is why I had a frog.  Did not even offer to refund even part of my money. Be wary, find another hotel because this was not worth the $83.00 dollars I paid!

This place is definitely not even up to Motel 6 standards, but because it is close to the Texas Renaissance Festival, they charged us over $200 per night.  When we found that we could stay 10 miles down the road at La Quinta for $250 LESS (3-night stay), we tried to cancel the room 2 days in advance.  Most chain hotels allow you to cancel 24 hours in advance, so I didn't anticipate a problem.
     That's where the "fun" started with the owner.  The reservation had been made for us by a relative who lives locally.  We were coming to town for a memorial celebration after the loss of her mother.  She was concerned that we might not find lodging due to the impact of the Ren Fair, which is extremely popular and draws people from all over.  So she kindly made the reservation about 2 weeks in advance, and "held" it with her credit card.  
     When I spoke with the owner, who was unfriendly and extremely difficult to understand due to a heavy accent, she informed me that their cancellation policy requires 15 days notice during the Ren Fair.  She said that the policy is on their website.  I later saw that her confirmation she had sent listed the policy as 8 days.  In any case, we were beyond both of those dates.  So apparently the reservation couldn't be cancelled from the moment it was booked.  
     The confirmation also showed that our cousin's credit card had not been charged, and it was our understanding that it had only been used to hold the room.  But when I spoke with her she informed me that she had already charged the credit card for the full amount.  I was very unhappy to be forced to stay at a place that was price-gouging, but if there was no way out of it, I at least wanted her to give our cousin a refund on her credit card and charge ours instead.  At that point she became very  unpleasant and uncooperative.  I finally decided not to deal with her any further.  
     I called my cousin and asked her to call the woman and ask for the refund.  I gave her all my credit card info so she could replace the payment method.  She called me back saying that the woman was very nasty with her and said she would only do so if I sent her a fax of my driver's license and credit card.  She said she didn't trust that we weren't running some kind of scam!  Of course, the quickest way for ME to get scammed would be to fax my driver's licence and credit card.  No way would I do that!!  I am pretty certain it is also against PCI Compliance standards, and thus illegal for her to ask.  We finally had to pay cash to our cousin instead of putting the charge on our card, as we had planned to do.
     I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy!!  The room was abysmal.  The furnishings were of the cheapest quality possible, the carpet had to have been 20 years old, the bathroom was all original (at least 30 years old, I would say), with a tub/shower combo, but you couldn't use the tub because there was no plug.  The towels were tiny and threadbare, the "toiletries" provided were a few cheap little soaps and an old dispenser of cheap shampoo and soap in the shower.  There were no tissues anywhere in the room.
     The only positive is that the room was clean (as clean as it could be with that old carpet), and the bed was comfortable.  
     This is the kind of place that should be charging about $89 per night.  NOT over $200!! I would absolutely NEVER have paid that price for this place had I not been FORCED by the owner, who obviously knows nothing whatsoever about customer service or how to insure return business.

Price gouging and outrageous cancellation policy!!

Stayed recently for a night while attending a friend's wedding in Magnolia. Just wanted somewhere close as there are very few spots in area.
Pleasantly surprised by property:

Im normally not negative...but when i pay the “price gouging” amount of $150 a nite for a basic Motel 6 upgrade (almost an upgrade) i would like some amenities and would expect those items to work/function.
So lets start the “nitemare before Halloween”! I understand i was charged the price gouging amount of $150 (plus tax) a nite for 2 nites because they were close to the Texas Ren Festival and they had a shuttle to the Fest. Magnolia is a tiny little charming town of maybe a few thousand dollars and 2 or 3 stop lites. When i drove up to the hotel and noticed the Motel 6 looking exterior and cars permanently parked in one of the travel lanes and a basketball net (standing pole) anchored by broken sand bags in one of the car parking spots i figured this was not gonna come even close to a nice Holiday Inn Express or nice Best Western. This was gonna be “Motel 6...1980’s”.
We opened the room and it was at least clean. It had fresh paint. When i tried to open the window drapes i noticed the curtain rod had been “wired” with some hardware wire to hold it together since it was broken. The other side of the curtain was torn from the hook.
So i went over to see if the tv worked. It was hard to find the remote to the early 1990’s tv. This was a cathode tv that is so deep you have to have a dresser 2 feet from the wall for the tv to fit on. I would guess it was about a 12 inch screen. And the cable reception was terrible and grainy. I felt like i needed to run outside with my “long johns” on and pipe wrench to “adjust the antennae” for better grainy reception (only those guys who grew up in the 60’s and 70’s will  understand!). And the remote. Found it! It was the “brick” by the lamp. When i moved the nitestand to find a wall plug (which there is none!) i found someone’s bottle wrapper and beer caps on the floor. Guess “thorough cleanings” are done when the repaint? The bathroom was clean but the toilet seat was loose. I noticed the looseness because when i turned on the lite you could see the seat was crooked. Good thing i brought my tool box so i could tighten the nut that had almost slipped off the seat bolt. 
And dont worry about the “normalcy” of waking up to a good cup of coffee in your room! There is no in room coffee pot. But......you do get a tiny small microwave and a fridge. And if you double the 4 thin plastic glasses you are given you might be able to warm up some water to make some instant coffee (if you bring your own!). You can go to the office and stand in line in a small tiny waiting room that has one table and one side table to wait on coffee that is made from a “one pitcher coffee brewer”. And if you are hungry you can have your “limited choice” of carbs, carbs and syrup on your carbs and toast! And some orange juice. There is no protein available. But you can run to the Magnolia Diner which has wonderful food and very fresh coffee made to order. 
The wifi in the hotel sucked (no other way to say it). I would have expected to pay maybe....maybe $35 a nite for this terrible hotel experience not $150 a nite (plus tax). This is clearly a place where the owner is into profits and is not going to spend any money for “at least” proper mechanical repairs and functional order. So save the extra $80 a nite overprice and go 25 miles east to the Woodlands Tx and get a nice luxurious room with coffee maker, flat screen tv, coffee cups, wall plugs, toilet seats that dont slide sideways and a breakfast room that “had room” and decent food. Maybe i shoulda not expected “the bare minimum” for my $150 a nite! This was an expensive $359.34 price for 2 nites. So beware! Spend your hard earned money at a much nicer hotel just a few miles to the east of Magnolia Tx. 

An Almost Upgraded Motel 6 

Great rates with awesome clean rooms. Daily housekeeping with clean sheets and pillow cases everyday. Excellent choice when in the area. Stayed for for a week and the staff made me feel at home from check-in to checkout. I will be staying here from now on.
