I kept the business card since 2014 to remind myself to write a review because my brother and I enjoyed it so much! The place was charming, and we were greeted with cookies! We also had an amazing breakout with bananas foster french toast, fresh, homemade bread, and more. Great stay!

Charming Stay, Great Service, Superstar Breakfast!

Was scheduled to stay at the Inn in September, during COVID. I booked directly through the Inn website.  We had a death in the family and I had to cancel the reservation to make the funeral.  I contacted the Inn 4 days before my reservation and they would not refund my room fee. They did offer to provide a voucher good for one night stay within the coming year. However, I never received the voucher after numerous emails and phone calls (voice mails).
Given the extenuating circumstances, i was disappointed by the response. 
So, take the cancellation policy VERY seriously. Even Inns in small towns can be very rigid.

The charm of a B&B is that for the owner it’s a labor of love, I didn’t see it here. The inn is looks and feels rundown. The front porch needs a coat of paint, and some of the wood is rotted. The grounds are not well kept with weeds popping up in the walkways. Indoors is classically decorated but worn out and wallpaper is peeling. In the room the the hot water handle on the sink fell off and there was a large water stain on the ceiling. In the middle of the night we found out that we had no toilet paper, I had to steal a roll from the dining room bathroom. I will say that the bed was comfortable. Also, the cook for breakfast was very nice and cooked whatever we asked for.

When we got there we found out we were the only guests in the inn. It seemed like they were doing us the favor of letting us stay instead of being a gracious host.

Where’s the love?

I cannot say enough about the Grand Victorian Inn!  First of all, Dean who owns the place (along with his wife who we didn't get to meet) is the nicest person ever and went out of his way to get my almond creamer for my coffee (since I am a vegan).  Couldn't believe he did that!  And he cooked up a mean breakfast for my 16 year old son!  Then on Saturday and Sunday we had the pleasure to meet Sue and Mary who take care of the breakfast service on the weekend....THE NICEST PEOPLE!  And Sue is quite the baker and cook....her homemade granola is legendary!  The inn itself is historic, charming and old....and Dean has taken great measures to update it.  We stayed in Room #9....two very comfortable double beds with it's own bathroom....simply perfect and decorated in period style.  We were there for races at Sunday River and it is a very easy 10 minute drive (maybe less) to the mountain. If you're looking for a reasonable rate, a good hot breakfast, and friendly people then this is the place to stay!  We will be back!  Thank you for a wonderful visit!

Amazing place!

Stayed here 4 nights midweek and there was only had one other room occupied. Full house by Saturday a.m. Teenagers liked it, wifi was flawless. Homemade breakfast every morning made to order from 7-9 a.m. Room keys also unlock the entrance doors which are locked after 9pm so your free to stay out late and slip back in without bothering anyone. Ceilings are 10' high in the carriage house. Definitely "Victorian" theme & decorations. New owners are friendly and still fixing up some of the things that got away from the previous owner. One of our mattresses was uncomfortable and sagging but the other was comfy. There are plenty of room options in the main Inn and the carriage house. Best to call and book thru the owner / website direct. It's cheaper than 3rd party website. 

Comfortable and affordable

We stayed here a few years ago when it was under the old ownership, and must say that since Jen and family have taken over it has really improved.  Rooms are clean and cozy, inn is peaceful and caretakers are warm and inviting.  We loved chatting with cook Mary each morning as she made us perfect customized omelettes and made polite small talk.  Inn was close to all the main amenities in the tiny village and nice and quiet in the evenings.  Filled with New England charm. We will be back.

Charming and Cozy

It was an excellent experience staying at the Grand Victorian Inn.  The interior/decor reflects the Victorian age.  Above all, Dean (the proprietor) and his staff Alice, Lisa, and Susan were most gracious and helpful.  Their recommendation for dinning and sites for visit were spot on.  The best stop-over in our trip for fall foliage in New Hampshire and Maine, especially for visiting the Rangeley Lake region.

Accommodation

We stayed here one night, on our way home. The building is large and interesting. Our room, Room #2 was modest in size, comfortable, a bit dull in decor. But the Queen bed was comfortable, and the room felt clean. Breakfast was both continental and you could request something hot from the kitchen. Breakfast was good. 
I have stayed at B and B Inns all over the world. Generally what is most memorable is the hospitality feeling from the innkeepers. There is none of that here. It’s just a place to stay.

Lovely Old Inn

We were just stopping in Bethel as an in-between spot to sleep between eastern Maine and Mt. Washington.  The Grand Victorian Inn was 1 of our top 2 (can't decide between 2) of the 6 hotels we stayed in on this 9-day New England trip.  Just gorgeous building and big!  We stayed in Room 11, which was huge!  It had a queen bed with nice sized bathroom, then you go upstairs within the room to a loft with another queen bed!  Nice sitting room just outside our room, and breakfast was lovely (and Mary very nice) the following morning.  We arrived after the town was pretty much closed up for the night but walked around a little and it seemed a nice little town to visit.  Great place to stay!

Beautiful inn, big room

Beautifully decorated rooms. If you are looking for a lacey, victorian feel, definitely try this one. They do have some check in restrictions, so might be a good idea to contact in advance if you will be late. The staff was polite, and room was clean. I loved the black hand towel for make up..thoughtful!
