We are very fond of  all the WV State Parks that we have been to.  Chief Logan is perhaps a little more modern, more recently upgraded, and somewhat better located to more shopping and other places to eat.  It’s also quite a bit bigger which made accommodating our group a lot easier.  We’ll keep hitting the others, but for the group that just got together for its annual event Chief Logan works better.

Very good Park and Lodge among a lot of good ones.  

It's well kept up, clean, has a cute little pool and hot tub. They have a really good breakfast selection. When we come to visit WV we stay here. 

Cons- beds aren't that comfortable. Everytime we visit, I end up sick with a sinus infection. Either room ac filter needs clean or it's very dusty. Last time we stayed was worse than this time. 

Great little hotel 

The room was quite large with a sofa. The toilet was not very high off the ground and as an older person I had to be careful. The thing that griped me was using the room's hair dryer. The second day I used it I found a hairbrush in the bag with a lot of hair! I guess the cleaning folks don't check for that.

Decent place to stay; showing its age a bit

We stayed the night for the 5:30 am Room was clean and bed was comfortable.  Very nice sitting area outside the room.  Free breakfast but we didn't experience it.  The buffet the night before was not good.  Staff was very pleasant, but food was tasteless and desserts were store bought.  Eat before you check in.  Check in took a while because the staff was a bit slow and not especially friendly.  No directions were given to get to our room, and I had to go back to ask about Wi-Fi.  Our electricity went out for about an hour with no communication from the staff but we had to go to bed early for the tour so it was okay.  All in all, it wasn't a bad experience.  I would go back.  

Overnight Elk Tour

Stayed 08/12/2022, was such a pleasant experience!  Room was so clean, and the bed was really comfortable.  And love having the patio out the back door with the nice wood chair and table. Directly in front of the fire pit!  Love the Farm to Table Buffet, a little pricey but drinks were included. And breakfast was free so that offset cost of supper.  Good breakfast (eggs with cheese, sausage, cereals, sweet rolls, etc).  And at night there was a super nice lady with telescope people could take turns looking through.  Also saw two fawns up close.  Just a great experience overall!

Farm to Table Buffet

We stayed at the Chief Logan lodge for one night 8/10/2022. Check-in was pleasant and prompt. We were in room 308. We kind of suspected something when there were fans blowing down the hallways on the first floor. When we opened the door to our room the AC fan was on constant and there was a strong odor of something, possibly cleaner? As the evening progressed the smell of the room became overpowering. Not really dirty just old room/carpet/furniture odor.  Most of the furnishings including the bedding should have probably been tossed a decade ago. Upon further investigation I could see where previous guest had shoved air fresheners into the heat/AC vents to try and cover up the odor. We ended up going down to the gift shop that night and found some scented candle wax to spread around the room so we could sleep. Both the sink and bathtub drained so slow that water just backed up in both. We did our best to clean up using the sink but taking a shower was out of the question. None of these issues happened overnight.  The restaurant was actually good for dinner even though there was only us and one other person dining. Upon checkout when asked how our stay was, we told them our findings and was told we should have said something, and they would have called maintenance.  I think maintenance should have been called a long time ago.

Would stay here again happily. Coffee is the best I had this whole trip among many hotels. The continental breakfast leaves a lot to be desired however. The beds and pillows gave me a great nights sleep. Staff was great. Ice machines currently not working but the kitchen is providing ice. The cost with my military discount is awesome. Parking is great. The room while a bit worn is comfortable and towels and soaps generous. The toilet is really low especially if one has health issues. The jacuzzis jets hardly work but the hot water made it ok. They are pet friendly. ATV riders use this place a lot. Beautiful setting in the hills and yet only 4 miles to Walmart and everything you may need. We were here before Memorial Day so it wasn’t crowded. The road which goes to the other side of the park is NOT meant for large vehicles or trailers . It is curvy and very steep ( 16% grade ).

Family reunion for my wife’s side

A wonderful facility with friendly staff. Room was comfortable. One problem, however. We could not find any luggage carts--looked all over, but none were in the obvious areas. Our shower head put out only a fraction of the water it should have, which made it very difficult to take a shower. I reported it the next morning. It would have been nice for the attendant to offer an apology, but it was simply written on a sheet a repairs with very little comment made. Also, at the best lodges when a guest checks out, the attendant will ALWAYS ask, "How was everything?" or "How was your stay?" None of that was offered---the attendant simply handing me my receipt and that was that. The breakfast area had no cereal or yogurt--very rare to fine those missing at any continental breakfast, and cereal is always what I enjoy! All in all, the lodge was great, but some improvements could definitely be made.

2 night stay for the WV Wild & Weird Conference

Check in quick and staff friendly. Checked in 2 hours early.

King suite with balcony, jacuzzi, refrigerator , microwave and fireplace.

Although fall foliage was not at peak in the area, we enjoyed the view of the mountains from our balcony.

Some of the furniture in the room was a little worn but room and lodge were clean.  Bed was comfortable.

Dinner was a buffet but we had eaten earlier and our group had a cookout at the fireplace later that night. 

Breakfast was included in the stay and was continental.  It did include sausage gravy, biscuits, sausage, boiled eggs and pre-packaged cereal, muffins and donuts.  Beverages were coffee, tea, milk and juice.  There was one server and he was busy keeping items stocked.

We did not participate in any of the activities. There is a pool, recreation center, playground, and corn hole on site.

The Chief Logan Park is about 5 miles away.

Overall a great WV Lodge

WV Resort

We stayed here for one night last weekend. After driving close to 6 hours to get there, upon check in the person whose eye I caught handed us off to someone else and walked away. That person checked us in and did alright. Upon getting into the room, I looked out of the balcony, which had a great view of the mountain that we were on, and the room overlooked a fire pit and something of a playground. The two adirondak seats that were connected (so as not to be easy to lift) were not comfortable, and I didn't enjoy any time on that balcony. The room itself was ok, not any three star as I was told this place was. This was a 2 star at best, that was set in lovely natural landscaping within a state park. It was clean, however, and I have to give them that. And, it was quiet at night, after the kids occupying the fire pit called it a night and came back, noisily shouting up to our floor (of course) and found their respective rooms. There was a buffet dinner that night, which we decided to get. The flier on the lobby counter didn't give any location or price. When I called to inquire about those details, the clerk had to ask someone else before she could answer me. We found the dining room and were completely ignored by the woman standing at the cash register. When we did get her to look up, she barked at us to go have a seat and they'd be with us. Thankfully, someone else was at the register when we went to pay. The next morning (had to leave to drive 6 hours back), there was supposed to be a full breakfast. By the time I got down there it was mostly gone. There weren't even any utensils left. I would have rounded someone up but frankly didn't have the time. I poured a biscuit and some sausage gravy onto a plate and ate it in the lobby with my fingers. Pretty gross.  Hubby didn't eat anything so he was a crank that whole day. I don't understand what has happened to "hospitality" in these hotels and restaurants. Not only do the workers ignore you (when we arrived, I had to speak before anyone would look up), and we've been to enough places to see that this is happening more often. 

Reminder, people, the traveler is why you have your job! If you want to be a 3 star, then treat people right.
