This was a stop on our tour of New England and I was really looking for a good experience for my kids to see what a Bed and Breakfast was like. Pros: the rooms were big, spacious and sheets were very soft. Cons: the breakfast, she just gave us the food and we were expected to prepare it in toaster oven. It was stored in a college size fridge, food was unmarked with no dates on containers, dishes were dirty and hard to get to and no paper towels. I would have loved to talk to Carol more and learn about her life as an author and more about the area but she seemed busy and like she didn’t wanna talk to us. She could have made this a wonderful English Cottage type B&B - there’s so much potential here! 
Nice place to stay if you’re looking for a bed but find another place for breakfast! 

MYOB - Make Your Own Breakfast 

We spent a horrible night at the Cottage B&B.  Even though it was  under 50 degrees 
at night and we were staying in a basement apartment with no direct sunlight, the owner refused our request to put on the heat. She actually suggested that we should sleep in our sweaters. In fact, we had no choice but to sleep in sweatshirts and it was still freezing cold in the unit. When we requested that she put on the heat, she said to us, "I wish you would never have come."

The shower was dirty.. The couch was ripped and was not very comfortable. The blinds were missing some slats.

Also, what does "B & B" stand for in the name of the  Cottage? There was no breakfast.

Horrible Experience

We had a suite in a vintage mid-century modern property. The shower included a steam shower--turning the stall into a mini-steam room if you wanted to use it! The Cottage is in a great location. Carole made sure we had everything we needed. The food prep area had a fridge, microwave, toaster over, electric kettle, and real china to use. Breakfast was in our fridge when we arrived. We loved our small private patio and also used the beautiful large shared patio.

Unique property with a  great location.

“The Cottage” is not a cottage. There are two basement rooms, accessed by a screen door. We stayed here because it was advertised as ‘pet friendly’ but we were unable to keep the door open because the screen was ripped along the bottom. The vertical Venetian blinds in the living room did not slide all the way open and lighting is poor. The place is very dark. The ‘kitchen area’ is a closet containing a beer refrigerator, a microwave and toaster oven. The freezer compartment door was broken and when we asked for ice, Carole asked, “What do you want ice for?” The dishes provided were dirty and there was no way to clean them. Shower had mold and there was no exhaust fan. Carol told us the Norman Rockwell Museum was open, as well as a restaurant she recommended. Both were closed. When we told Carol we were vaccinated, her reply was, “So what?” We found her to be disagreeable and argumentative. On the positive side, it was a good bed and the sheets are clean. 

Not 'a cottage'

Totally enjoyed our 4 days in the Berkshires at The Cottage. The place was perfect, with great privacy, comfortable suite, beautiful grounds and fabulous location. Carole was a wonderful host, gave us great recommendations on restaurants and sights in the area. Highly recommend!

Great Stay at this Unique Deck House

The owner of the Cottage called me and asked me why I needed to make a reservation, and she was extremely rude!! I have never in my life been asked why I need to make a reservation...we are currently are not staying far away from this cottage, my husband and I just needed some quiet time away for our anniversary.—not that that was any of her business! Don’t bother making a reservation here they don’t even take credit cards, which she also what she told me, my question is why do you put ur business on Trip Advisor and all the other outlets and take my deposit on a credit card and then say your don’t take credit cards!?! 
Take your business elsewhere!! The owner is rude, and I would never recommend this place to anyone.

Worst Experience with a Booking!!

As a single traveler, I had a smaller room with an entrance from behind the house. The host met me upon arrival and showed me the amenities and where the best place to park my car was. The suite contained an office/sitting room, bedroom, and large bathroom that had not only a shower but the capability of the shower converting to a steam room (which I did not try). The location, a mile from downtown Stockbridge, is excellent--away from a not-very-busy road so it is quiet and peaceful. The early spring weather warmed a bit and I had my own terrace where I could sit in the open air and read.  I cannot find anything to fault--there were also interesting magazines and brochures from local attractions available. Although this is a b n b, there was no breakfast available on the two nights I stayed, but this was okay as my convention had breakfast available at the Red Lion.

I booked online for my sister and myself and was to bring my cat as well.   I called the week before our stay to let her know when we would be arriving and that my cat had passed away, and the woman asked if I wanted to upgrade to a 2-bed room, since I didn't need the pet suite any more.  She said it was the difference between $108, which was the price I booked it for online, and $140.  I said, no, we're fine with the queen size bed.  Well, when we got there, she said she didn't know there were 2 of us, and  because of that, it was going to cost $128. (She wouldn't take a credit care, either.) Not only did she rip us off , but all the carpets were old and very dirty, although the bedroom carpet looked fairly new, the toilet seat was all stained, the shower was covered in soap scum, the liquid hand soap bottle was almost empty and had been diluted so much it didn't even suds up, the pillows were like lumpy pancakes, two of which didn't even make a short stack, there was no path to our door - only mud, the desk chair looked so yucky we avoided sitting on it, etc., etc. The lighting in the place was extremely dark. Maybe she knew people wouldn't like what they saw.  The pictures posted online must be very old; don't trust them.  Also, I don't know why it's called a B&B; there's no mention of breakfast.  Not that we'd have been interested.

Mistake

We stayed at the cottage for three nights in December. A large room was awaiting us, It was cold outside but nice and warm inside. The room was very comfortable and met all are needs. There was a wall of windows, during the day you could see a very lovely Stockbridge winter scene. The cottage is just a short drive away from Main St. We had a wonderful stay and would return here in the future.

Spacious accommodation in lovely surroundings with the option of a sitting room which we did not use. Carole was a very hospitable and thoughtful host. Very helpful eating out recommendation at Once Upon a Table.
