Please note: This hotel is Old. It is above a BAR & Restaurant.The breakfast (included) consists of muffins (encased in plastic), sometimes coffee in the pot and a toaster, yogurt and some kind of cereal. We would not have stayed here if we knew the BAR plays LOUD music until 1AM!

Above a Loud Bar!

I was very disappointed in my dinner last evening.  I have come here for years and for many family functions or dinner with friends.  Up until now, Very Good to Excellent.  Both I and my SIL ordered the French Dip sandwich with au jus.   We were both contemplating an excellent sandwich with  au jus.  I guess the chef got overcreative and presented a new version of au jus that was just terrible.  It was spiced up and not what a normal or regular au jus you would find in an quality restaurant.  It really ended up spoiling what would have been a great sandwich.  Both I and my SIL ended up eating the sandwiches dry, which is not why we ordered French Dip.  Guess I should have sent it back for something else on the menu, but I didn't out of courtesy to my guests who enjoyed their dinner.  SIL and I were disappointed though.  STOP messing with the au jus! Go back to the original.

Average for This Review of the Restaurant

Have had liver and onions over the years of my life. This was the worst attempt I have ever tasted, the liver was dry and very few onions. We have gone to Winter inn many times over the years and have been satisfied.

We really enjoyed our dinner here. The cajun chicken alfredo was amazing and my fiancee had the chicken cordon blue and it was amazing also. The atmosphere was great and drinks were definitely reasonable. Definitely will go back again.

Date night

On a bike tour with buddies and stayed at the Winter Inn after a great meal and good craft beers. Staff was super friendly and helpful. Atmosphere is that of 1902 w  a 1980 makeover. Clean affordable and did I mention the fine craft beer list?

Fun find

Our stay was alright. Staff very friendly. Clean room and bathroom. Reasonable rates. Comfortable bed. Did not like the lighting situation. Only 2 lamps with low bulbs, too dark. For the continental breakfast at 7am there was only one milk, 4 small boxes of cereal and 5 small flavored bagels. No pastries as advertised. There was orange juice and coffee. They had a toaster but no bread. No elevator for disabled husband.

Previous reviewer of this place was pretty right on.  Hotel check-in is between the bar and restaurant with no clear person who cares just about hotel guests.  Drag your suitcase through busy loud bar and bump your way up the stairs.  Internet didn't work upon checkin, apparently hadn't been working for days but just happened to get fixed shortly after I was there.  TV was a pain - Direct TV - no clear directions about how to work it, had to ask for help both nights, second night just gave up bcs the news channel I wanted was working, then it was gone.  Bed squeaked and groaned.  Tub faucet didn't work correctly with shower, water everywhere, tub filling and not draining well.  All I can say is the staff did attempt to respond to my complaints of discomfort - they were nice people but all doing many other things at once.  I will say the food from the restaurant was excellent but the breakfast bar was a joke.  This was definitely the most uncomfortable hotel stay I've had in a very long time.

Can't recommend

June 14-June23 2018. We had a Christian campmeeting and no other hotel in the area. We just suffered. 
We made reservations to stay a week and they charged us the first min we checked in. By mistake, they charged us twice and took more than 24 hours to receive the money back. It costed us an overdrawing. Pictures in internet are false, make think the hotel is beautiful and well take care but the truth is Hotel is extremely old and outdated. There is not closets where to hang your clothes, only three hangers in a corner of the room, how you do if you are staying there for the entire week? There is not light in the room, only two old lamps with opaque light. Dirty and mice smelling drawers. Dusty room made me cough all night.   Online says $85 per night then they charged us $97, no one at the desk when you need them, staff seemed they don't know their responsibilities, one call another and no one knows how to respond efficiently.  Rooms are upstairs and not elevator!!! You have to drag your suitcase all the way up. There is not microwave in the room, only ONE in the hall to share with more than 14 rooms.  The AC did not work properly. No handlers in the bathtub. One day with no hot water, our cars were scratched in the parking lot, etc., etc. When we asked the manager about all of this, he said, the hotel is for people who like antiques, BUT one thing is you have a taste for old fashion and other is lack of facilities. There is a bar in the first floor and you have to cross that bar full of people drinking to go to your room. There is a door that exit direct to the street, which is open UNTIL 2am, there is an emergency door (Those to be used only for firefighters) in the second floor but this, is also a door where smokers can go out to smoke and it is ALSO open 24/7, which makes that place very unsafe. People made noises until 2am approximately, you cannot sleep. In brief, that place can be recommended only to your worse enemy or for people who want to experiment how was living in 1920s when the building was constructed. A couple good things were noticed: it seemed the walls are painted recently, there are mirrors everywhere, hall carpet looked clean.

Nightmare hotel.

The Winter Inn has been around since 1902 and there is no shortage of historical atmosphere. Rooms are on the moderately small size but do not lack in comfort. The bar downstairs is lively and the menu is very good w/ good prices. I've stayed there several times and have never been disappointed.
