You will not regret spending time at this B&B  The owners are very warm and welcoming.  Accommodations are spotless and beautiful. Breakfast each morning is homemade and delicious.  Out door area is very relaxing.  You can sit for hours and enjoy the lake.  Really perfect and well worth the month if you're looking for a relaxing northern Michigan retreat.  Highly recommend.

Perfect weekend

The host Larry and Mary could not be more helpful, their attentiveness made us feel at home. The rooms were spacious, clean and big. The lake in front has a sandy beach, great for swimming. There are good places to eat with a 10 -20 minute drive, the Lewiston Lodge was a favorite. I would highly recommend Rodgers Roost and we are planning on going back next year.

Great host!

This is my second time staying at Rodger's Roost. It was lovely, just like last time. Mary and Larry are gracious hosts and the breakfast was delicious and plentiful every time. It is a little remote (we stayed here during the Big Ticket Festival in Gaylord--about a 30 minute drive), but we loved it. Clean spacious room, comfortable beds, beautiful spot. Loved hearing the bullfrogs at night! The B&B part of this house was designed and built for that purpose, and that is evident. My only caveat: daily housekeeping is not provided. We would have liked having the used towels removed and the trash emptied, but this did not take away from our lovely stay. Note that there is no wi-fi and possibly no cell phone service, as well as no TV in the room (but a large one in the Great Room) if that is important to you. We will be back!

Beautiful Place

Rodgers Roost Bed and Breakfast is a fabulous way to get away from it all. The accommodations are of the rustic-backwoods variety, which is the norm for Northern Michigan. The room I stayed in was impeccably clean and well thought-out (most hotels I've stayed in aren't as clean as "The Roost!") It had two queen-sized beds, a twin-sized bed in the corner, and a hotel-style roll around bed stored in the small walk in closet. In total, that room would sleep six VERY comfortably! The bathroom was very spacious; had a walk in shower with a commercial-grade soap dispenser (no mini soaps here!) But the most important feature of any bed and breakfast is the food. Larry, the one innkeeper, makes some of the best home-made wheat pancakes and some epic multi-grain bread! Everything they cook is to order, just have to read the menu carefully. Both innkeepers, Mary and Larry Rodgers, are very kind and very knowledgeable about the area; If there's any doubts or questions, never be afraid to ask them (they're really easy-going people!) The bed and breakfast is about 1/2 an hour from Gaylord, MI and 1 to 1 1/2 hours from Traverse City, MI (depending on traffic and th route taken.) A few more note-worthy features are: a kitchenette for guest use (the main kitchen is off limits), a Jacuzzi-spa overlooking Big Bear Lake, and of course, Big Bear Lake.

Cozy Comforts of Home!

This Labor Day weekend was a repeat visit for us to Rodgers Roost, and we anticipated the return...not just for the excellent accommodations, but also for the peaceful setting and friendly hosts.

The beautiful home sits on the NW shore of Big Bear Lake about 15 miles east of Gaylord, an easy drive for restaurants, shopping or 'city' sights.  But we were there for the relaxing, quiet time on the lake and pleasant drives around the countryside in the "elk country" of Michigan's northern lower peninsula.

The home is perfectly finished in knotty pine and boasts large windows overlooking the spacious deck and tranquil lake.  With two rooms upstairs and one on the main floor, it is never crowded.  Larry and Mary are excellent hosts with Larry anchoring the kitchen/meal prep duties and upkeep while Mary oversees the guests relations and housekeeping departments.  They are a great team and interact very well with their guests.  We have enjoyed their company and contributions on each of our stays.  

Breakfasts are hearty and delicious with menu options offered the night before.  A mouth-watering variety of fresh breads is baked on-site with a separate kitchen area for guest use including sink, refrigerator and glassware.

Rowboat and paddleboat are available for guest use off the dock as is the private beach.  The large deck has plenty of chairs for lounging or reading in the peaceful setting.
